I have this and the R5. Honestly I shoot weddings and use the C2000 for the ceremonies, first looks, speeches etc. Even in 8 bit the image is awesome. I work for a company that sends me to shoot and they do the editing. They love the image from the C200.

I also disagree with a lot of his points. The C200 is a great camera for the price in 2024. The file size of raw is not the big deal he makes it out to be, and a good modern computer should have no problem with it. If you use DaVinci Resolve, it can easily create proxies to speed up editing even further. I love the 12-bit color from the C200.

Storage is so inexpensive these days that it's not an issues at all. I use 4K RAW from this all time and never have to use proxies with my Mac Studio M1 or worry about storage.

I think the C200 is a great buy in 2023. The raw image is beautiful and in no comparison to a R6 in my opinion. The storage isn't really a problem for me as I always grade the footage right away in Resolve and export to ProRes. I love the image out of this camera and picked it up for under 2000 euro's. I also own a R6 and although I love that camera too, the C200 is just my go to for more professional looking images.

It should be noted that if you are a young filmmaker and want to shoot a feature ,the C200 might well be the camera for you.. You can adapt nearly every lens made with the exception of the newest Leica o rR mount lenses. The RAW files (though large) are awesome, You can output anything you want including Apple ProRes 444. It outputs fully professional images! I think with good lenses and proper exposure you'd hard pressed to tell images from the most expensive cameras made. One must keep in mind that when this camera came out it cost over $7,500 fir a basic kit.

I worked full time all year in 23, and I was told I would be punished if i shot in 4k. That sentiment was in multiple tv stations. The tv stations were 720p quicktime. Period. So saying 1080p isnt professional, is a shortsighted statement. Otherwise a good informative video. Good recommendations as well at the end.

That’s a good distinction! 4k is standard for things like ads, documentaries, and web media but broadcast tv still lives in the 720-1080p space for now. It all depends on your niche of filming. Glad you liked the video!

Storage is no problem. I have both a Canon 1DXii & 1DXiii DSLRs + a C200 and C200B. I own several 512GB Cfast and CFExpress cards, plus a few 1TB cards. As I see in your video, I own the Mac Studio M1 with 32G RAM. I don't use proxies and that computer handles RAW playback just fine. RAW is the only codec I shoot with my cameras to get the value from them all.

MP4 rendering is enough, RAW is not really necesary. The naked eye doesn't see the difference.
@JosephMartin
@JosephMartin 11 ай бұрын
Well RAW gives you greater bit depth and more image information which results in more dynamic range for light and colors. Once graded, MP4 and Raw footage looks similar, but you have much more flexibility with RAW and it retains more detail.

What is noticeable is the difference between 8-bit and 10-bit colors. That can be seen by the naked eye. 10 to 12 is way less noticeable though.

Had to click off the video at about the 1 min and a half mark. Your points just dont really validate it as a bad purchases. Maybe issues to you personally but not to the majority and thats where a lot of KZbinrs make mistake. That and inserted copyrighted clips are always a big no no. Sorry but this wasnt the one

Gonna have to disagree with a lot of points in this video; biggest no-no for the C200 is price for sure, considering the C100 is almost the same but under $1000, but if you aren’t scared of spending money then you should have no problem getting the C200

I shoot with the 5D MKIV using the Cinestyle picture profile, and it does the job for what I do. I've been editing and shooting videos for companies in the marketing/sales industry for about 7 years now, and most of them are needing something quick and fast that gets their message/product out that drives sales. 80% of the time they really don't care what kind of footage they're getting as long as it gets views and clicks that converts into $$. In that industry, you need a small body with equipment that's quick and easy to set up and breakdown. Now as far as perception goes, I've used gimbals with large displays attached on my 5D and I always get comments from clients like, "Wow, that's a big fancy camera you got there" lol However, if you're in the film industry or just want to make stunning visual art going for a straight cinematic look, the C200 is the way to go. I've personally edited footage from it as a freelancer, and like many of the commenters mentioned, the computers we have today can easily handle the RAW footage, especially with the new M series chips. I'd go as far to say that the RAW lite footage was ahead of it's time because you had to have something beefy back between 2017 to most of 2020 to handle it. Now, you can scrape on by with an entry level M1 (though I wouldn't recommend it for super complex timelines...I mean you can, just set your preview resolution to like 1/32 or something lol) As far as storage goes, if this is going to be your career, you have to have a robust file management and storage system to keep for portfolio and client history purposes no matter what. If you aren't doing that, you're playing an awfully risky game with your work. I will say that you're right about the C200 being not ideal for the beginner filmmaker. It takes a bit to set up. It's large, bulky, and you need larger/more expensive accessories for it depending on your needs, but as a beginner, you'll have no idea what those needs are, and you'll just be throwing money away anyways imo. Great video, though. It's well edited, and I appreciate you showing the examples of the footage types, as well as being real about the pros and cons of this camera.

Big caveat about the editing performance you had with the RAW footage. It's only slow on Mac's because they don't have the GPU power needed to process the footage in real time. Any PC with a 30 or 40 series Nvidia GPU will play the Canon RAW footage as smooth as butter. I edit C200 footage all the time and only have a RTX 3060 and its perfectly smooth, even with color grading and other effects on it. When you're in the world of uncompressed video formats you really want to be on a PC not a Mac.

The FX like does not shoot 16 bit raw. It outputs it maybe, but prores raw tops out at 12 bit.

Good points - I own the C100 M2 and had looked forward to the C200 being 4K 10 bit 422 INTERNAL on SD!!!!! I was so disappointed with this half-ass camera that I didn't buy it - and I still have no desire to buy it even with the price drop. It's really hard to defend this camera in 2023. If Canon had just taken the C100 form factor and improved the hardware/firmware to 4K 10bit 422 on SD they would have sold a million of them. Canon has this annoying habit of giving you just enough features and quality to barely cut it, but never anything insanely great or groundbreaking - and this comes from a loyal Canon shooter!

Can you shoot 4k internal 8 bit onto the SD cards? Is the only 4k option to record internal RAW onto the Cfast card? The 2nd hand price on these are starting to drop but so are the R6 MKII prices. I currently have a C100 MKII but would like another good video capable camera as my A cam.

Love Sony, just wish they supported their camera's firmware longer than ~3 years. As for buying a C200 just to "look pro", you can look pro by simply adding a gimbal and a atomos to a full frame camera. The end-result of the project is what determines whether they recommend your work to other people or leave negative reviews. So don't get too caught up on having a big bulky camera that hinders your ability to get nice shots. FX3 is a beast, the only meaningful upgrade I wish it has on the mk2 version is internal ND filters. And I'd say that would be the dream cam for most filmmakers / videographers.
@JosephMartin
@JosephMartin Жыл бұрын
For sure, adding an external monitor and a matte box is enough to trick the average person into being impressed with your rig lol! An FX3 with internal NDs would be incredible.

A bulky camera arguably enables you to get better shots by virtue of being more stable and having buttons instead of diving through dreadful menus.

I'm pretty sure this camera isn't actually 8.85MP. It must be a much higher resolution that is pixelbinned into it's final resolution. That would explain it's low light capability. Even the A7SIII/FX3/FX6 sensor is a 48MP sensor pixel binned to 12MP to achieve it's crazy lowlight capabilities along with the back illumination.

The R7 is cool but it doesn’t shoot RAW and it has less color depth, which is what attracts a lot of people to cinema cameras.
