Glad you showed up on my feed, Chris! I’d love to hear if the c500mkii is landing you higher opportunities AND if you’re renting it out as well. What was your personal reason for upgrading? I almost upgraded but at this moment my clients aren’t asking for 6K or 10bit. But that’s not to say I would be on other clients radar if I did get the C500mkii. But probably the coolest feature of C500mkii-switching from EF to PL mount in seconds!

Great video. There aren't enough reviews of this camera out there and this was very helpful. Here are some things I'd like to see in your next review: 1- Battery Power and Runtime? What is actual use like on the C500? 2- Is the battery sticking out of the C500 II super annoying? 3- Timelapse/Interval Mode? Any work arounds on the C500, such as shooting 1fps in S&F mode? 4- Is the monitor on the C500 brighter than the one on the C200? What about the optional rear EVF on the C500 II? Is it the exact same as the one on the C200? 5- Is there an optional "Slow Shutter" mode on the C500 II like there is on the C200? And bonus question: How does Canon's slow shutter mode even work? How can it shoot slower than 360 degrees?
@AnchorLineTV4 жыл бұрын
The battery runtime with the Canon batteries is pretty low. I haven't run any scientific test, but the smaller battery runs for about 40 minutes, so I'm assuming the larger battery will run for about 80 minutes, max. We ended up using V-mounts and two 145wh batteries allowed us to run the camera, a Teradek Bolt 600 and a Tilta Nucleus for a full day. Hope that helps!
@robjamesvideo4 жыл бұрын
@@AnchorLineTV Wow, the C500 is very power hungry compared to C200 as that's roughly a 3rd of the runtime I'm used on the C200 so bulky v-locks look like a must on C500 setup...
@AnchorLineTV4 жыл бұрын
@@robjamesvideo I think people are using the Canon batteries, but you just have to have more of them. We already have V-mount and also power other things (like a wireless follow focus and a wireless video transmitter) so the V-mount is a no-brainer for us. If we weren't powering those things, I think I would just buy some more Canon batteries and switch more often.

Thanks Cody. Price is definitely the biggest sticking point for me right now (even though it's a great price big picture - but still a lot of $$ for now). In one of my upcoming videos I'm going to focus on the financial side of owning this camera vs. the C200. Great video. I am interested in the Canon c500 Mark II for narrative filmmaking. Do you have any experience of using your c200 in this area of film making ? If so , how would you say the c500 compares? Obviously, I know you have not had a lot of time with the c500 mark II yet , but I just thought I would ask! I am really excited for your next video!
@ChrisFrancis4 жыл бұрын
Yes I've use my C200 for all types of projects including my latest short film that is currently in some film festivals. The C200 worked great and looks great on the big screen. One thing to consider is that I have 2.25 TB worth of CFAST cards and on one day on our short film we literally only had a few minutes of card space to spare. If I used the C500 for a narrative film I would definitely film in 6K raw which would more than double the file sizes, so on that same day we would have shot like 4.5TB of footage! That is a lot of cards (and hard drive space!).
@creativeorstrange4 жыл бұрын
Chris Francis thanks for the reply. Am I correct in thinking that you would shoot in 6k in order to downsample/ reframe in post-production? Good point about the amount of cards needed/ hard drives needed. How long was your final cut of your short film? I am just trying to work out the shooting ratio. Good luck with your short film! I’m currently editing my own short film, which I shot on the Canon c300 Mark ii, hence my interested in the Canon C500 Mark ii! Can’t wait for more of your content. Do you have some of your old short films on your channel?
@ChrisFrancis4 жыл бұрын
@@creativeorstrange Yes, for downsampling purposes. Also, if you want to shoot full frame in raw on the C500mkii 6K is your only option. If shooting full frame in XF-AVC your highest option is 4K that has already been downsampled from 6K in-camera.

Keep in mind that the footage you see is only as good as the equipment you view it on. And even then, only as good as the compression youtube offers. The best you can get is to rate it against the quality of other similar videos.

C200 has it all. Super 35 is perfect for video, record in RAW, transcode in Resolve, you have Pro Res HQ 444---or any other flavor of Pro Res to edit like a champ----and you don't have to pay for that massive price for the new media. And the difference in the real world? You have a wait a bit to transcode your RAW from the C200. Poor baby. My best advice: Save your money, shoot your C200 RAW, go have a cup of coffee. The transcoding will be done before you know it...then go publish your 4k in 1080p like you always do. It'll look GREAT! OR, you could wait until Canon replaces the C500 mk II with another new latest and greatest, and buy it for pennies on the original $16,000. Or you can give in to your impulsive side, buy it now and watch the value of your investment crash and burn when that new thing comes out this coming Christmas---or next April fools day.

Definitely, I was expecting better for sure. One of my next videos is going to be completely dedicated to comparisons of all the image stabilization modes possible with the C500 (in-camera, in-camera + Lens is, no in-camera + lens is, no stabilization at all) in several different situations and will show when it works well and when it doesn't.

Jan Andhisfiets do you not get any warping effects when using wide angle lenses for your camera? I’m starting to prefer NOT having IBIS and relying on lens stabilization (I actually prefer the EIS in the EOS R over the IBIS in the Sony line) because it seems nobody has perfected it yet. In my experience the Sony’s have IBIS but they were disappointing, and the Panasonic line had great IBIS but you could definitely see the warping effects with wider shots. Considering nobody has perfected it, im wondering if IBIS is even capable of being perfected. Your thoughts?
@krane153 жыл бұрын
@@xkben90 Its not really a function of a cinema camera. No pro production would rely on that, so I wouldn't take to much away. When the want/need a steady shot they use a gimbal or Steadicam. Its just enough to smooth out the rough edges for an independent operator or a documentarian. I'm just really glad they gave it a good dual pixel auto-focus -- although it could still be better in low-light.
@xkben903 жыл бұрын
@@krane15 Yeah, I recently got the Canon R6, and although I love it, I have concluded that IBIS is overrated for video. It's great to have, but it really isn't the end-all be-all, especially with its warping.

Hi, can you tell me if the C500 mkii has the time-lapse feature like the C200? Cheers.
@ChrisFrancis4 жыл бұрын
Hey Ross, the C500 mkii does not have interval recording (timelapse) mode. Not sure if this is something they could add with firmware down the road, but that would be very unlike Canon to add such a significant feature retroactively. The closest thing you could do to replicate it would be in Slow & Fast mode you can go all the way down to 12fps. I'm not sure how this would even look in reality, and it's pretty far from something like 1fps.
@rosscooperthwaite64384 жыл бұрын
@@ChrisFrancis Thanks for the quick response. Typical Canon; I really don't know why the insist on taking features away from premium products. I have the C200 and the interval recording is an awesome feature to grab a quick time-lapse. This is really making me debate upgrading from the C200 as I really don't want to have to carry a second camera, media and batteries to create a simple time-lapse. Thanks again and I'll look out for your future C500 videos - a dynamic range comparison to the C200 would be awesome and really helpful. Cheers.
