Thanks for the in-depth video, looks like it's going to be a terrific camera to use! The only question I still have - is there a possibility for Cannon to add RF-mount option? Would've made camera future-proof and make good use of stabilized 15-35 & 24-70 RF lenses for filming doc-style content. Cheers!

@@Stanlyok Thanks for watching! I did say to Canon that they should have had an RF mount option. Currently their isn't a way to get RF mount lenses on the camera. Jake

@@CVPTV Thanks Jake! Makes me curious if there ever will be for technical reasons - with the ND filter system flange distance might be too big for compatibility with RF-mount. I must say, I would've made this camera our next purchase (in Jan-Feb 2020) if it were possible to use stabilized RF zoom lenses on it.

If you'd be interested in doing more comparisons, I'd love to see a field test of the alexa mini and c500mkii. For example, a one minute project (short film, commercial, music video, your choice) utilizing the raw formats of each camera, same lens, same lighting with free reign to make adjustments to make each camera shine on its own, and then color grading it to make the footage both match and look the best that it can look. Then finish it off with a comparison and discussion on the experience with each camera in production and in post, budget comparison when each camera is rigged in the way that suits it best, which one was easier to light or color grade, things like that. You can decline, but I think it would be a fun test haha.

Could you do a calculation - how long can you record on CFexpress using the Canon battery (BP-A30 and BP-A60) in both XFAVC as well as RAW and show us the costs for media based on those record times etc and is it a cost savings vs the original CFast cards?

Thanks for posting this review! I wish there were normal handheld test shots for the IBIS (ie. documentary b-roll of a person working in a room), hard to tell from shooting from a car because unless you're on a gimbal or maybe shoulder mounted there's no way that's going to look good with any amount of stabilization.

Normally I love your guys videos but in this one I feel like using the term IBIS is incorrect. Sure, EIS is IBIS in a very literal way but iI think that when people say IBIS they mean sensor stabilization, like in the GH5, while C500MKII uses EIS which means the stabilization is done electronically. That could cause confusion.

Thanks for watching! IBIS stands for "In Body Image Stabilisation". So really it could mean any type of stabilisation. What you are referring to is Sensor Shift stabilisation, which is not what this camera has. Jake

Hi there, wonderful video with tons of tests. Really enjoying how colors have less way magenta on skin tones (something I absolutely dislike about the c300mk2 and c200 sensors). My question is about fan noise- one of the worst things about the original C500 is how quickly the fan would turn on during an interview. Did you experience any loud fans going off during your use/long takes? Thanks!

It's digital stabilization, which means image processing, which must then probably come after de-bayering - raw recording means you miss out on a lot of tricks.

How many minutes of 6k raw fit on whatever card you were using? What about 4k raw? I assume there are no settings to adjust raw compression (like RED). Are there any settings you can change for the EIS? Also how much does the EIS crop the sensor?

Did you label the cameras correctly 8:36 - 9:34 for the ISO tests? Because the C200 XF-AVC looks better than C200 Raw, which is how it is in the real world. But I notice C500 II has less noise in Raw than it does in XF-AVC. This changed? I always thought XF-AVC has less noise because of the compression and noise reduction built into the codec, raw has less of that. Can you confirm those cameras were labeled right?

Awesome, thanks for putting the work in on this. Quick question - When shutter is selected at 180 degrees, does it keep that setting when you switch frame rates and S&F? On the FS5 it switches to 90 when you go into HFR, drives me nuts. Also - Did I see some artifacting or fringing in the Super 16 120fps?

Great info, thanks! Are all frame rates supported in S16 mode? On my C300mkII I can't shoot 23.98 in S16. Does the proxy recording work will all resolutions and frame rates? Another issue with my C300 is log footage playing back with no LUT / view assist applied. Has this been fixed on the C500mkII?

There isn't a time-lapse mode under the recording mode like the C300II. The only option would be to shoot in S&F mode and shoot at lower frame rates but obviously that's not as good as the C300MKII options. Jake

@@TheEditingResource hey anthony - the latest invoice for a mini from b&h comes to just under $71k including items to get up and running out of the box... similar to the $25k price tag for c500 mkii with items to get up and running out the box. you CAN buy an Arri for $6k off of ebay for an alexa classic - but that's no the model they're comparing - and now the LF version of the mini is out and the body alone is $75k // either way there's at least a $45-$50k gap in cost // so i can't see how the comparison is meaningful.

The two cameras CAN compare, but it comes down to versatility, how you shoot, and the logistical requirements of the project. Canon cameras are very versatile. You can shoot weekly content with it and it looks great. Pair it with a good set of cinema lenses, a lighting package, and a great DP, and this thing could shoot a feature film worthy of an Oscar nomination (The Big Short used film and the original c500). You can carry that same camera and inconspicuously shoot documentary footage as a solo shooter. The Alexa owners I've met mostly shoot narrative, music videos, corporate, and commercial. The Canon owners I've met shoot those types of projects and more; canon holds up great in all of them. I think if you're going to spend $20k on a camera, this is a solid option to consider, even if you end up buying something else. I mean, what really matters is making the image look the best it can look, right?
