Lots of good input! I've played w/ matrix bal fill both in active daylight scens to indoor mild light & it changes & especially changing frilm fromt to rear curtain sync indoors low light. I like manual but I can say, Nikon has dome a great job of making Auto & priority modes work in a pinch. Spot w/ Fv lock i-TTL works as well for retaining your nixe background but locked subject flash fill

Thanks! Your comment on metering modes influencing flash exposure on TTL exactly mirrors my testing on FUJI. I tested each mode and used TCM to measure exact power output and no change regardless of spot, matrix, general or whatever. I wonder why this is not clearly explained elsewhere.... I am looking to do really quick environmental portraits (could be people) and have settled on zooming to where the subject i want flash fills the frame - take a shot - then using TCM to lock down the power. Zoom out and compose and shoot at will.

Hi, Peter. Great, glad you enjoyed it. You can basically take the information I related to aperture priority and apply it to shutter priority in terms of pros/cons and things to look out for. Of course, where I mentioned my preference for manual shooting mode vs. aperture priority because of shutter speed fluctuation and resulting imprecision in natural light exposure and the potential effects on the look of the image, you would simply still be aware of the little variations in exposure as TV floats the aperture value. That won't affect you going in and out of high-speed sync flash of course as you're locking in the shutter speed but you would want to be aware always of how the change in aperture might affect the look of your image. But, as far as the relation to TTL flash, it's the same as I described in terms of how the camera and flash will calculate the TTL exposure in different scenarios. Hope that helps. Cheers, Greg

Great video. Do you talk about flash extenders in any of your flash videos? I am thinking of buying the Magbeam vs the Better Beamer. Last question, which software do you use to create the titles the slide in. I use PTE AV Studio to create my KZbin slide shows which had interesting title options but not like yours I think. BTW I shoot with Olympus /Panasonic gear mostly because of weight concerns as I like to travel light. Right now shooting birds in Panama and Colombia.

Canon has two TTL metering modes; evaluative and average.

Hi, Joao. Good point. I understand the Average mode to try to ignore ambient light more while Evaluative takes the whole scene into consideration while also trying to guess that the closest thing in the frame might be what the flash should be working on. On newer cameras such as my Canon R5, there is also an Evaluative mode with Face Priority for TTL. It apparently works very well for portraits. I've not yet tried it out to see how it affects nature subjects. A video on these modes would be interesting so I thank you for mentioning this :-) Cheers, Greg
