Totally underrated camera this one. I've owned one for 23 years and it hasn't missed a beat. I've been tempted to buy a couple of spares given the cheap price.

I got this same exact one just the US name variant is called Canon Eos Rebel Xs got it for like $10 from a goodwill. 50mm 1.8 is on it all the time cause of how small the setup is.

Great video as always! Another advantage over point and shoots is that framing is much more accurate since it’s through the lens and also you know you’ve nailed the focus.

Love the fact that you can use eos lenses. I’m using an EOS 5 and a 50E. Both great cameras. Never had any battery issues. Only downside for me is the size. And I wish there was a 35mm or 28mm lens the size of that pancake

Love my 500, I've also got the battery grip for it, I've also got a 300v and the eos 50e, all work fine and produce great results, it's great testament to the engineering quality of these classic Canon 35mm cameras.

There is a version for Japanese market, I think it's an early 2000s model named Kiss 5. Kiss 5 is slightly more compact than EOS 500. For me this is the perfect allaounder, blows any premium compact poin&shoot out of water when it comes to image quality and you can adapt older lens to it....

Great advice for people that don’t want to drop a ton of money on a point and shoot. I have a Eos 500N and sometimes like to use my Samyang 14mm 2.8 on it because you don’t see the ultra wide angle look on film too often.

I have several of these. You just can’t go wrong for £5-£10! My favourite vintage EOS body is the 600, but the 500 with the 40mm f2.8 makes for a fantastic camera setup you can carry everywhere.

Picked up a EOS-300 late last year with a 28-105mm for $50 from a Melbourne seller. Takes wonderful photos. Paired it up with a variety of lenses. Results were much better than I expected. Definitely strange using film again after being so used to the image preview on the back on the DSLR to just see a blank panel.

I just picked up the Elan, which I think is the same series but different name for different regions of the world. Mine has 3 focus points. Paid 30 dollars Canadian and added a nifty fifty for $90 Canadian. Waiting for my first roll to come back from the lab. I'm really happy with using it. One downfall is some old m42 lens will hit the mirror.

I have the Elan 1 and the Elan 7ne (US names). I got the Elan 1 for $10 in perfect condition. They're great. Better in almost every aspect than cameras from the 80's, except for style and tactile feel. Really good value SLRs for beginners. I agree the pancake 40mm is perfect for these cameras too. I put that on the Elan 1 and gave it to me girlfriend to start getting into photography, and she loves the combo. Great livestream!

I found one at a good price today, it appears to work and I have let it eat a 2008 expired roll of c41 film as a quick test because I had none of the B&W film that I can develop myself. I think I will just freeze it and mabye when I find it the next time I will have learned C41 processing (by that time I may have forgotten what photos are on the film so that might be fun.)

Not a Canon guy, but if you're on the lookout for Nikon equivalents: Nikon F100, F90, F80 and F75 are all autofocus Nikon cameras. The tricky thing is they only support up to Nikon AF-G glass. No newer Nikon Af glass. For Sigma, there only is support for the 35mm F1.4 Art and 50mm F1.4 Art. At the same time, they do not support the earliest Nikon F lenses without modifications. I like that Nikon stuck to their F mount for the greatest of times, but there are a lot of things to pay attention to... Nikon AF-S glass is not supported. I repeat, Nikon AF-S glass is not supported (even in the F6). Canon, in that regard, is the better option!!! And I prefer Nikon...

Thanks for the upload. Is ‘single shot’ AF available in AV mode? My EOS Kiss seems to be defaulting to ‘continuous’. After scouring the manual, I can’t figure out how to change this.

Those are very good cameras. But because they don't look super retro and look like digital cameras, people tend to move a way from them. I have two eos 500n and the eos 100. For fast action the auto focus are better. I only hope the price doesn't skyrocket after the video 😅. Cheers my friend👍

I managed to luck out on a 500n with the kit lens for $35 off Gumtree a few months ago which has been fantastic in my bridge to film from digital. I already had the 40/2.8 and 50/1.8II which I put on it. But my question is: what’s the difference between the 500/500n/etc?

I bought my brother the 500N and he loves it :D I have a 3000N and it's a good camera as well. These cameras look small with a nifty fifty added onto them. The pancake lenses would look even smaller. I have a 7Artisans 85mm f/2 that's not too large and looks OK on the cameras. I mainly use that lens on my 1100D for astropics. It's good for capturing the Magellanic Clouds as they fill the FoV just nicely :D

Hi all, I’m new to film photography and found the Canon 500 film camera at my parents place. How do you get the film photos off of it and into Lightroom ? There’s one for sale cheap online I’m interested in but if getting the film done is so expensive then I might not get it ! Can it be done at home with good results or not really ? Also I’d be interested to see photos done with the lens it came with (unless that was what you showed I didn’t listen with sound lol) I don’t have any canon lenses only what’s on the camera so it would be good to see how that one works Thank you!
@pushingfilm2 жыл бұрын
Hey. It can be done at home with good results, but there will be quite an initial investment in equipment, and also time learning the workflow. Depending on how much a lab charges you to develop and scan film, that would be a more affordable and convenient option. I didn't get a lens with mine (as far as I remember), so I used Canon lenses that I already had for my digital canon camera. One good example is the 40mm 2.8 lens, which is a good all-rounder and quite affordable.
