Shouldn't, but verify the output voltage. The Canon camera forums will likely have someone with that knowledge, so would Photrio.

Hi thanks for the video it's super helpful I've just got this camera and am wanting to use it for a wedding which will be inside and outside any tips please on settings as photos are coming out orange or blurred I've set up settings as per this video currently on AV mode
@DavidHancock2 жыл бұрын
For the color cast, your white balance is set incorrectly. It should be in auto unless you know exactly what lighting you have. For the blur, I'm guessing you have the kit zoom lens, something like a 28-85mm f/4-5.6. You will likely need a flash, a faster lens (like a 50mm f/1.8) and you'll need to set the ISO to something like 400 in order to have less motion blur.

These are really great videos in preparation for my new (to me) camera coming on Monday. A technical question re. white balance, changing through the different modes, do these affect RAW files as well as jpegs. Thanks.
@DavidHancock3 жыл бұрын
Thank you and in general white balance only affects jpegs, I believe. It would be pretty easy to test that, however, as I'm not certain about the answer.

You can use an old, cheap, but powerful, Vivitar 283 flash. I do. Connection is by simple PC synch-cord. Mount on L-bracket or hand-hold. Excellent results. Thanks for the video.
@DavidHancock4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I still really don't recommend it. I have not had a flash discharge into a DSLR but I know a couple people who have and both DSLRs ended up with fried boards.
@arthurfelig56294 жыл бұрын
@@DavidHancock Hi David, I had the same concerns when I first got the 5D. Then I found out that the PC synch-cord port is not polarised on the 5D ( it is stated in the manual - page 102 ), so third party flash units can be used via synch-cord. Just don't use units with Voltage exceeding 250V, and you will be fine. There is talk online of differing voltages on different Vivitars that has to be established before use (old/new - Japanese or Korean manufacture - may have differing voltages ). it would be prudent to check first. but mine works fine, and has had hundreds of activations with no issues whatsoever. :o) Thanks for the interaction.
@DavidHancock4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I missed that in the manual.

The older 283 can discharge 600V. The newer one not so much. Best be safe.

Thank you! For the firmware, I don't know. I tried to find the upgrade and could not. I don't think that Canon hosts it on their website any more. Or at least if they do I couldn't find it.

IIRC, there is a remote port on this, which would allow a wired remote. But video 1 will confirm if this camera has a remote port and where it's located.

Just bought a used 5D with nearly mint condition. But when I load the files to my computer, the Camera serial number is different from the body. Just wonder did you have the same serial number on both file and body? Thanks in advance.
@DavidHancock2 жыл бұрын
Huh. Curious. I never checked that but it could easily be that someone replaced the base on yours, which would change the body serial number.

hello David thank you for the videos. i owned a 5d when they first came out and then sold it to raise some money. i have just brought a secondhand one again as thought it gave the best photos with a 135mm f2 lens. the problem is the drivers to connect with the apple mac no longer exist so managed to import through print mode function but it is very slow takes about a hour to import 100 pictures. do you have any ideas how to speed up, i now i can take the cf card out and put in a reader but reluctant to keep doing this as sure one day i will bend a male pin which will be costly. thanks again. peace and happiness
@DavidHancock4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The best thing to do would be to just transfer files directly off the CF card to your computer. I don't use Mac so I don't know if they have built-in CF card readers, but even a low-end CF reader will be faster. A good CF card and reader will work very quickly.

@astalma2 жыл бұрын
@@easytiger-bg1ot you can use darktable. It is free software and it supports Canon 5D classic. I use it sometimes. But the best way is to buy card reader with CF card support. Transcend for example has some card readers with usb-c if you want to avoid adapters for new Macbooks with no usb-a ports.

I found the camera to be really heavy with my 70 to 210 zoom lens with the battery pack. How can I reduce this weight with a different zoom lens?
@DavidHancock4 жыл бұрын
A different zoom would work, but by the time you get into that range you're looking at heavy lenses. A Canon EF 55-200 might be lighter, however.

Do you mean they're blurry or have a lot of noise? If yes, are you using auto ISO? If so, try limiting the auto ISO to 400 on the high side and see if that helps.
@timpenner7858 Жыл бұрын
Generally a good story but there's at least one error and a mistaken impression. The error occurs around the 20-minute mark. The top button at the right sets the back dial to control flash compensation, not EV compensation. EV compensation is controlled by the back dial when none of the top buttons have been pressed unless you're in Manual or Bulb mode on the control dial. The mistaken impression is caused by the way you hold down the top buttons when adjusting the settings they enable. The top buttons don't need to be held down, although they timeout pretty quickly. While new 5D users will catch on to this mistaken impression once they start playing around, it's an unnecessary speed bump.
