OK, the automatic switching of a focus area/point when you turn the camera landscape/portrait is a fantastic idea. I normally spend forever either moving the focus point, or having to 'grab' it with the shutter. Which is a minor pain when using strobes and I'm in Manual, but when out and about I normally use Av mode - and having to grab the focus point from somewhere off-center when shooting portrait, screws up the metering. You CAN turn the auto-metering off for the half-shutter hold, but it's also very handy to have that for contre-jour, so, this saves just a ton of mode switching with one simple feature. Well done, about bloody time!

Keagan De Villiers this is common in full frame DSLR’s, in the sub 2K price range. It’s same in Nikon D750. Still works perfectly within the rule of thirds. There are 45 cross type sensors. It’s a stellar focusing system and in low light, beats my 5DMIII.

I like the orientation linked AF point thing. But I am unable to figure out, how to set the focus point in the portrait mode, is it possible to customise the location of the focus point?
@CanonUSA5 жыл бұрын
Hi there! It is possible to set a specific AF point for both the vertical and horizontal orientation. Make sure you have [C.Fn II-10: Orientation Linked AF Point] set to [2: Separate AF Pts] first. Then, just set the AF point manually while holding the camera in each orientation. The AF point you select in each orientation will be the one registered. We hope this helps!

Just curious, if Canon wanted to update the firmware of the 6D Mark ii, is it possible to create an option to spread the auto focus points out further? Or maybe add more auto focus points?
@CanonUSA4 жыл бұрын
Hello John: This is an interesting idea. However, the location and number of the AF points on this camera are part of the physical design of the AF sensor. The changes you describe would require more than a firmware update. We hope this answers your question.

Hi! If your subjects are moving toward or away from the camera, try AI Servo AF. This will track your subjects and adjust the focus according to their distance at any given moment. Hope that helps!

Hey guys, thnx. May I ask - am I able to assign simultaneously the shutter button a single focus, and afc to bbf?
@CanonUSA4 жыл бұрын
Hello, You can use the Custom Controls function to assign one button to toggle between ONE-SHOT and AI-SERVO operation, however you cannot have a separate focus operation set for the shutter button and the AF-ON button. If you used the toggle option, pressing the assigned button would toggle between ONE-SHOT and AI-SERVO for both the shutter and AF-ON buttons. See page 500 of your camera manual. We hopes this helps.

When I set the camera into AI servo for moving subject. Do I need to change to focus 1 point or what do I need to set ? I use the back button to lock the focus
@CanonUSA4 жыл бұрын
Hi Tom, You can choose any of the AF area selection modes (see page 139 of the manual) when you have the camera set to AI Servo. If you choose a mode that has Automatic selection AF, focus tracking will continue as long as the Area AF frame covers your subject. This means the focus points will move around in the AF area to follow the motion of the subject. If you instead choose a single AF point, the camera will continue to adjust focus for that single AF point, but you must move the camera to keep the selected AF point on your subject. See page 132-139 for more information. Here is a shortcut to the manual: Canon.us/ucrg4. We hope this is useful.

Is there a difference between "Initial AFpt = Manual AF pt" and AI Focus?
@CanonUSA4 жыл бұрын
Hello: The functions discussed in the video for [C.Fn II : Autofoucs 11] deal with how the camera operates when the focus mode is set to AI Servo AF. If [2: Manual AF pt] is selected, the camera will use the AF point you manually select, as the starting AF point while you are in AI Servo. The default point will be the AF point you manually selected prior to starting automatic AF point selection. (Page 484 of your manual). AI-Focus is one of the AF operation modes. It allows you to focus on a stationary subject, and then to switch to AI-Servo in order to track the subject if it begins to move. You can find details on page 132 of the manual at the link here: Canon.us/vzk3v. If you have other questions, our camera support agents can assist you. For support you can log into your My Canon Account and register your product. Here is a link: Canon.us/mcahy Once registered click on your product and then select [Product Support] in the Product Details window You can then choose your preferred method of support such as phone, email or chat. We hope this helps.

@@CanonUSA Thank you for the answer. I realize that one deals with a specific functioning of AI Servo while the other is a different focus mode. But to me it seems that, at their core, they basically do the same thing. Assuming the AI focus has a single focus point selected and not automatically selected by the camera. Are you saying the difference is that on AI Focus the subject needs to be stationary initially, while on AI Servo with manual AF point the subject can be in motion from the start?

Does the 6D mark ii have AF micro adjustment? I'm trying to figure out how to fix a 40mm lens that I have that is blurry.
@CanonUSA6 жыл бұрын
Hi John. The EOS 6D Mark II does have AF Microadjustment. The setting is located In [C.Fn II: Autofocus] under the Custom Functions tab in the menu. However, if that specific lens isn't focusing correctly, it may need to be calibrated by one of our service centers when you have the time to send it to them. Our support team is happy to go over the process with you. Please give them a call at 1-800-OK-CANON (800-652-2666) weekdays between 8 AM and midnight, or on Saturdays between 10 AM and 8 PM ET. We hope this helps.

CanonUSA Thank you for responding. It’s a little weird, I was outside of the minimum focus distance (about 20”) and got the focus beep, but when I zoomed in on the image, it was blurry. I had to back up more for it to focus properly. I’m not sure if it’s a compatibility issue with the 6D mark ii. I don’t recall having this issue on my SL1.
@CanonUSA6 жыл бұрын
Hello again, John. The lens is not parfocal, meaning it will not remain in focus if you change the focusing distance or the focal length after you lock focus. If you move or zoom the lens, you will need to refocus on the subject. We hope this helps clarify.

Where do I bring up the custom function menu?
@CanonUSA4 жыл бұрын
Hi, Mickey! To access the Custom Functions menu, you'll first need to make sure the camera is in one of the Creative Zone modes. These are the modes represented by letters instead of icons. When you're in one of those modes, you'll find extra options when you hit the MENU button, and these will include the Custom Functions settings. We hope this helps!

@@MICProducties I would have to disagree with that as a photographer of five years. Who bought a 6d mark 2 for second camera. The quality is great sharp images. I have the 5d mark 4 and they are pretty much the same. There not a whole lot of difference I enjoy shooting with both. The photographer makes the camera not the other way around.
