Spot on to the point. Great informative video. Much informative than the fancy young KZbinr channels :) You know what I mean . lol.. A quick tip: PQ curve is more similar to Canon's clog2 (of course not the same) but people who is trying to convert it to rec709 can try the clog2 conversion luts. HDR PQ reminds me the good old C100 mark ii and the wide dr profile. Easier than clog3 to shot and grade. Huge amount of data in the shadows that can be pulled out at post.

"Day of the Trifids" (If I spelled that right). That movie was excellent, as a kid kind of scared the crap out of me milling around in the woods & thinking I was "sensed". Great review as always, thank you! Final Cut Pro appears to be a good program to own for video work.

I wanted to film using HDR PQ mode for outdoor filming with my Canon EOS R5. I was looking for a method to convert to SDR which doesn't rely on FCP. I ended up using HandBrake which is a free app on macOS. It has a "filter" option which allows the colour space to be converted to Rec. 709. In this way, I can preserve the HEVC 10-bit encoding while converting the colour space and gamma to Rec. 709. BTW, I also tried using the free version of DaVinci Resolve but got quickly lost. Also, it seems that the free version only supports 8-bit rendering which can lead to visible banding on the output. UPDATE: Another method on the Mac is to import HDR PQ into iMovie (will be converted to Rec. 709) and then export as ProRes422. ProRes422 can subsequently be transcoded to HEVC 10-bit (Rec. 709) using QuickTime. Thanks for this informative video.

Are zebras fully functional in hdr PQ mode in the r10? On the r50 they’re not.
@erkkocak Жыл бұрын
@@superstringsbro Yes they are and I am pretty sure they are also functional on r50 too. False information spreads way too fast in YıuTube. HDR PQ max IRE is around 68-69. So.. The values are totally different than the standard 8 bit modes. If you are shooting PQ, than set your zebras to 45+5 and 65. (45+5 for skin tones and 65 for protecting highlights). You can also use histogram to check your highlights. Also a quick tip. Exposure doesn't change by changing the color space/gamma. You can set your exposure manually on the canon standard profiles(aperture, iso;, shuttter etc.) and than change your mode to HDR PQ or any clog whatever.. You will still get the correct exposure. I can't beleive noone is really talking about this easy trick and I see people are going crazy to expose correct for HDR or LOG content :)

Thanks so much for your video. Finally, I made the decision to buy R10 after figuring out about the HDR PQ mode. I was looking at xs10 and R7, but I think the R10 is the right camera for me. Thanks for your help.

I have been using HDR PQ and simply deliver in HDR, since KZbin support HDR, also FCPX doesn’t have a Color Space Transform, to go from HDR to SDR (it does automatically, that’s not good!) you have to do a proper gamma curve Transform to linear, since Rec 709 only support 6 stops of dynamic range, Vs 14 stops from the Rec 2020 color space.

I've started using this instead of CLOG3 which is far more noisy in the shadows. Just not sure what the exact colour space and gamma is when importing to resolve. I select things like rec2020 and ST2084 and it seems to look the same across a bunch of them, but sometimes the reds look a bit purple.
@Carlosjespejo Жыл бұрын
When exporting, set your timeline color space to “wide gamut hdr-pq” then add the hdr tool that the gentlemen explained , it should give you accurate colors as long as you have proper white balance. Hope this helped
@ArcanePath360 Жыл бұрын
@@Carlosjespejo I think the problem is the in Davinci Resolve I don't have the PQ to Rec709 LUT. I have to use a near approximation and the reds then need correcting.

You probably need to upgrade your pc. A mac with m1 chip or a newer gen graphics card is generally required for H265 442 video files like hdr pq etc.

@erkkocak10 ай бұрын
@@БогданаКрасива sure you can. The problem is not the hdr monitor. The h.265 files are way too compressed for a simple pc/graphic card to work. You can see and edit your hdr files in a sdr environment for sure.
