@@Yupthereitism R5ii has a stacked sensor, whereas the old one did not have one (see 8:07 to 8:18). A 45 MP BSI stacked sensor seems like the sort of thing the flagship R1 would have, not the R5ii. It's very strange.
@Yupthereitism4 ай бұрын
@@TisthammerPhotography I agree. I think the r1 should have the r5 ii sensor for sure. Tbh though the stacked sensor isn’t all that useful unless you’re doing sports or fast nature, if you don’t use the speed then you are taking a hit to your image quality for no reason. Stacked sensors perform more poor than their non stacked counterparts in regard to dynamic range
@TisthammerPhotography4 ай бұрын
@@Yupthereitism Stacked sensors have a tradeoff to be sure, but they're great for silent shutters due to their increased resistance to banding and faster autofocus in addition to their usefulness for fast action. There's a reason why all the flagships of the big three (Canon, Sony, Nikon) use stacked sensors. That said, you're right about the tradeoff regarding dynamic range. Sometimes even in my professional work I'll use a camera with a non-stacked sensor just because it's the best one for the job.

Canon has always made the R5 with the highest resolution but the R1 as the work horse. I just purchased the R5 2 and going to use it for sports and see how it works. The R3 is now 4k great deal. But here is the thing the R3 was sharper in tests when compared to Sony and Nikon. I believe in a few years we will see a new R1 that will make leaps an d bounds. Exactly! And with the R5 mark I. You can use the screen as a touchscreen and move the focus point quickly (Just not that quickly for sports) so for me, it’s not an improvement. When I shot sports, it was the X-Games and U. S. Burton open winter events. You’re typically only shooting 1 person at a time anyway. And for basketball, the R5 still does a great job this one just does better. Edit: oh and for the stacked sensor that doesn’t matter if you’re shooting mechanically. The R5 mark ii basically beats the Sony A1 and Nikon Z9. The only thing those 2 cameras can pretty much do is match what canon did. Anything more is way too excessive.

The Canon R1 has fallen victim to the age-old and widely held bias that the most important spec by which a new camera is judged is MEGAPIXELS. If the R1 had released with all the same specs but with at least a 45MP sensor, there would be no doubt that all the "experts" would hail this as the new Canon flagship. Instead of questioning Canon's use of the term flagship, they would be talking about the fast sensor read speed, what is possibly the world's best AF, and the new upscaling and noise reduction capabilities. And the sad part is, Canon's product managers should have known this would happen.

He needs to shoot a golfer hitting driver and show the 5 or so images starting maybe 1 frame before hitting the ball and moving to the 4 frames after. Why don’t Sony and Canon add ANTI THEFT feature & 32 BIT FLOAT internal audio recording to their cameras? That will help the majority of camera users who are solo shooters. Panasonic LUMIX GH7 already has 32 bit float. All the pros know audio is worth 50% of their videos. If the audio is bad, then the video is useless.

In the olden days, flagships were always fast, low-res bodies. Look at the Nikon D4. The D800 was the slower high-res counterpart to that. I guess Canon is continuing that trend. Please do a head to head with the R5 & R5 MK2 over heat issue in video mode.

LG and Samsung make the panels for Sony tvs, maybe they should do the same with their camera screens.

экраны у Sony плохие, хуже чем у Canon!

There is a lot there to justify the price increase. I mostly shoot stills but would love to have the fast readout speeds for much of what I shoot. I've been looking at the ever more affordable R5. It's nice to have such choices!

the new sport mode ai focus system is really impressive.. this is the tech that would get me to buy a new camera.. i seriously need an intelligent focus system that nets me more in focus shots.. so many times im all set up holding down the focus button and go to take the shot and i see it with my own eye in a fraction of a second it goes out of focus and then i look at the picture and im like wtf dude.. the focus point is right on them... and a lot of times its my best shot the whole game maybe even my career.. it does this all the time.. this new ai focus assist for sports might be just what im looking for.. and since the r52 is cheaper than the r1 and i was kind of thinking of getting an r51 this might be the one.. just not really sure if i want to drop 10 racks on a new setup..

If you haven't seen Vanessa Joy's video yet, it looks like Canon may have already addressed some of the issues you talked about. She showed being able to select exact fps for stills not just the set increments you had available.

The screen we showed is the mode she's in. We were just showing the info screen in that mode which showcases the actual framerates you can be in. Notice in her video it goes from 5 to 7.5 to 10fps. You can't necessarily dial in "exactly" any framerate. It's predetermined with set increments like we showcased and mentioned in this video.

I just went back and checked and you are right it does jump. Hopefully this and the other little oddities will be fixed by the time they ship.

That 29:59 recording limit is so arbitrary. They should simply now turn it on via Firmware update for the R5. The same for those new menus. It would require barely any re-work on Canon's part.

Still need a cooling grip to go to……wow only 2 massive hours.

Does water gets into those vents?
@BW_Maher4 ай бұрын
The vent goes through the body to improve heat transfer. It doesn't go into the body where the electronic components are. It has no effect on weather sealing.

If you want a water-cooled camera, then sure, feel free to have water flow through the vents. But if you're working in such extreme conditions, a loss of feed will cause a shut down right quick.
