I have to tell you, I bought the Canon R5 and was lucky to get it when it first came out. It was a retirement gift from me to me. I have always wanted a great quality camera and this was it. I am by no means an experienced photographer and have so much to learn. Your videos on my camera have helped me so much. I continue to come back to them for guidance. I can't thank you enough for helping me and giving me such joy in taking photos. I have yet to try the video but that is my next step.

There is a philosophical point about monochrome. It is like a commitment where you throw away the colour info to force you to consider the monochrome aspect at the time you take the photo. Not the same when you do it in post.

Nicely done Jared. Trying too make my way into stills again. A lot has changed in 12 years. This saves me a lot of time. I have skimmed over the manual a few times, but Canon often doesn't tell the significance of a setting, just what it is. The value add helps lot... And, I shoot Raw now myself. However, have you ever gotten strange artifacts in raw?

One use for that sensor plane marking is for your focus puller or 1st Ass't camera to take a focus measurement with a tape measure. (At least that's how we used to do it on our old Arri SR film cameras.)

Long exposure noise reduction doesn’t “smooth” images. It takes a second blank exposure to eliminate hot pixels common during long exposures. You absolutely should leave it on.

the line of the where the sensor is ... is for a geek use like mettering subject distance for exact focus distance i believe that's for the focusing distance tecnicly or for the confusing point AND nodal point things
@seanc8054
@seanc8054 3 жыл бұрын
the mark is usually for cinema cameras that do not have a ttl viewfinder , you need to know where the sensor/film is to accurately focus the lens, you would use a measuring tape and measure from that icon and then you would know the subject is in focus since you cant see it thru the viewfinder, not sure why it's on a digital camera though, everything is auto, unless maybe if your using an old canon cinema lens or something, kind of weird

I’m not sure you understood long exposure light reduction. It’s not going to “smooth out” your image. It will subtract hot pixels that show up on long exposures. Your point may be valid for high ISO NR. But not long exposure NR

@@jul1anuhd sometimes, haha mainly annoying for video but for photos the autofocus is good enough for me, I don’t shoot too much action. I do have to say the autofocus for the A7R4 was life changing! It was the most amazing thing on the planet. So if you upgrade to the R5 I am sure you will be impressed! I love the A7R4 but I brought out my 70-200 one day and it was just too bulky of a setup for me personally and what I do. Lovely camera though.

@@alexsystems2001 For photos, MFT is very practical... Very small and handy, plus many small lenses. Was shocked at the full-frame lenses for the first time. Everyone said that the 20-60mm lens is so small and handy (for me it was the biggest lens I ever had xD). Great and reliable autofocus is just very handy for videos. All the best and have fun with the GH5 ;)
@alexsystems2001
@alexsystems2001 3 жыл бұрын
@@jul1anuhd thank you! Oh yeah, I was shocked I went all in on the A7R4 and got the trinity of g-masters. Although beautiful glass and beautiful results the 24-70 f2.8 was crazy! Then the internal zooming 70-200 f2.8 it’s in its biggest position full time it didn’t fit in any bag I had. The sharpness, the f2.8 speed in darker situations were amazing though. I think you’ll like that expandable 70-200 f2.8 canon is making, I think will help a lot with the shock of FF lens size a little but I think the 24-70 F2.8 for canon with OIS built into the lens may make that range a little bigger, the 24-70 f2.8 gmaster I think is a little smaller because it doesn’t have ois built in. Yes nice chatting! I hope whatever camera you get you love. If you get the R5 please let me know how you like it! Ive considered the R5, I’m sure it is amazing but I don’t want a A7R4 repeat and not end up using the camera.

This is the second time going through this video. I noticed that the image stabilization setting is no longer in the #7 menu under camera settings. It's actually not in any of the setting menus. My camera is just a few weeks old. Can't find any explanation on line.

If you’ve got an image stabilized lens attached to your camera, you cannot see the stabilization setting in the menus. If you don’t have a non-stabilized lens, just remove the lens you have and then turn on the camera to check your settings. Default is ‘always on.’

@@jcmssm Thank you for clarifying that for me! I also just noticed that even with the power switch off the display on the top of the camera still has the "M" displayed. Only goes away when I remove the batteries from the battery grip. I do have it in airplane mode. Maybe there's another setting I need to disable? I have read that even with the power button off the camera will still drain the batteries.

@@tomacquilano1304 - keeping it in airplane mode makes a difference. I don't think there is any way to turn off the top menu other than removing the battery. I don't have a battery grip, but I do have a couple of spares on the charger. When I go out birding I usually put in a fresh battery and take a spare.

I just want to know how to process portraits taken with the R5 so that they look as good as what I get with the EOS R. I've tried Color Fidelity profiles in Lightroom, as well as some I created myself using X-rite Color Checker. I've tried Capture One and Photolab. I've tried Canon DPP. I finally have the colors right, but there is still a weird contrast problem. Photos shot with my R5 seem to have low contrast and lack a sense of depth and clarity. It's difficult to describe. Unless you zoom in closely, they have a "smeared" sort of feel to them. When I show people shots from the R5 side by side with my EOS R, they immediately see the differences and know what I'm talking about. I'm stumped. Clearly, Jared's shots don't have this problem, but nearly every shot I've ever taken with the R5 suffers from this. I've shot for many years with several camera bodies and have never experienced anything quite like this. It is difficult to troubleshoot.

Hey dude, a great video in general. However way too long for me, even with the timestamps. Are you producing a “Pro’s Cut” of this video anytime soon? I was wondering: People who buy this camera might know how to mount a lens and where to find the shutter button, right? 🤣

Great video. Thank you. just got my R5 and I noticed a few of my menu items are different than yours. For example, I do not see "Overheat Control" under Video tab 8 (I see Standby: Low Res. in that spot). Is that because my firmware (1.3.1) is more up to date than the camera used in the video (1.2)?
