I bought one 4 years ago to replace the Rebel T3I I had. I use it professionally for stills, It works amazing. The images are sharp and clean. When you pair it with your phone for the remote shooting and instant image transfer. This camera is amazing for a beginner finding a great stills camera under $1k.

I have both RP and R8. RP being my 1st FF mirrorless camera. I use both. RP is my photos camera as a professional portrait photographer and my R8 is my video camera.

@@efkansakar I had the RP and just upgraded to the R8. I don't see the images any better, but I am not professionally analyzing. The images from both cameras is stunning shot with my 28-105 f4 glass. Honestly the RP is a stunning camera, I only upgraded to get stickier video focusing because I shoot wildlife. But, I will probably still use my Canon 90D ASPC sensor camera for that task.

I have canon RP and canon R50. I'm using RP for photos and R50 for videos and photos. I like photos from RP better than those from R50, but the photos from R50 are not bad either. The video quality is much better on R50, autofocus is also better (not much better, but still). The low light performance is better on RP. I like both of my cameras a lot, although I think at some point I'll upgrade from RP to R8 or R6 mk2, depending on a budget. I was staying with RP because I prioritized buying more lenses first. Currently I have 16, 35 (my favorite one), 50 (my least favorite), 85, 100-400 and 70-200 f4 is (EF through adapter), so I don't feel like I'm lacking anything here, and now I can spend some money on body :) Talking about lenses, I think the only downside of R50 is lack of RF-S lenses. My only RF-S lens is 10-18 (must have IMO), which is great and fits small R50 very well, but I'd appreciate some small prime lens like EF-M 22mm f2, which I was using with my M50 back in time.

I just got one. If youre focusing towards photography, this mirrorless full frame camera is a great choice if you are on a tight budget. But not so much in videos.

I heard that the RP is a better HDMI out livestreaming camera than the R8 as the RP can send clean HDMI out for hours while the R8 has to be restarted every 30 mins. Is this true?

The RP can also shoot 25 and 50 fps if you set it to PAL. Not sure why no one ever mentions that.

@@luhan8628 PAL is the TV system that is used outside of North America, which use NTSC. Both are tied to the frequency of the power grid in different regions, and a common source of flickering lights in recorded video when set incorrectly. Most cameras can switch between the two.

@@luhan8628 Well, it does sort of pretend to shoot 4K in 24 or 25 fps. It shoots excellent 2K in 24, 25, 30, 50 or 60 fps. I suggest getting a different camera if you need 4K, though.

Thank you for a good review. However, if you consider the price drop of the Canon R6, and your budget allows, then go for the R6. The R6 and R8 in South Africa have been closely priced since the R6 Mark II came on the market.

depends on your style. but I like the 50mm and 35mm black stm lenses. I wish they have a 40 mm that would be ideal . also consider older vintage manual focus glass

I don't either. My beginner camera was T5, then then 90D, then full frame at RP. This camera still has amazing technology in it, as it was cutting edge 5 years ago. Canon threw a lot of extras into this RP and R to get us all over to the RF glass system at the time. Including the new sensor and processor. Then covid hit and the camera market slowed to a crawl for several years.

For some reason, I feel the same. The RP sensor is still of Canon legacy sensor designs, while they obviously have changed read out and A/D converting technology to achieve higher speeds and dynamic range. However, this somehow messed slightly with the image impression.

i think i might actually found my new camera now lol. i am mainly looking for an affordable FF body i can adapt my vintage lenses on and then use it as a starting point to grow into the future with new lenses. when you go online, all you see is sony a7 and a7ii. while at the same time saying that those are really kind of bad compared to even sony apsc and it really only makes sense to go a7iii. noone talked about the RP at all. just found it out of sheer randomness. i am sitting here comparing raw files of the RP and a sony a7ii and tbh... i really like those RP files. they look nice, very nice colors and the raw files are super small in size. on the other hand i really kind of hate the raw files of the sony, colors look really bad. and in general i dont like the look and feel of sonys who feel like a smartphone attached to a camera grip. The RP for me looks like a way better value. it kind of reminds me of a good enough 5D classic but as a mirrorless version you can grow with.

I loathe the terms "beginner" and "entry-level." _Beginner_ implies a user with no knowledge. _Entry-level_ implies a sort of placeholder for something better. The RP might be a good camera for someone who's never owned an interchangeable lens camera before (a beginner), but such people aren't really going to care that it's full frame instead of APS-C; they aren't even aware of the difference. The RP is also good for someone who knows exactly what he or she is doing and just wants a low-priced full-frame digital camera that can be adopted to EF glass. The RP is NOT a "beginner" camera. It's a full-frame mirrorless camera whose feature set is intentionally limited to allow it be sold at a good price to shooters who want the big sensor, shoot stills in good light, and don't need all the typical bells and whistles. You know, an expert.

Why do you call it a beginner camera??? A college friend is a petite woman of 4'10" she's Asian. She is also a professional photographer who focuses on family and children's photography. She's been doing this for 15 years. When the RP was introduced she fell in love with the camera because it fit her small hands perfectly. Don't let the price or size brainwash you into believing that its an 'entry level' or 'beginner's' camera. Goes to show you how little this content provider knows about photography.
