Watched 3 different videos and yours was the only one that helped! What you did right that they didn't: 1. You showed WHERE in the SD card to place the file. 2. Making sure it was EXTRACTED to the RIGHT location (this was the main reason it wouldn't let me install with the prior videos) 3. And finally, deleting the extra files! A MILLION THANK YOU's! ONE THING YOU SHOULD CONSIDER ADDING: I just purchased this camera and in that zip folder where it retains the instructions for how to download firmware, it states you need to be in mode, I was originally in mode and for the life of me could not find the firmware update mode in 6 settings menu.

Interesting enough, recently purchased an eos rp (March 2022) , went through all the steps only to find out the manufacture already downloaded the 1.6 on to my camera! Thanks any way for the video it was beginner friendly and great practice for future firmware updates!

You don't really need to format your SD card :) you can keep your photos and videos on it and still perform the update ! All you have to do is transfer the .FIR file to the root of the SD card !

switch it to P mode and go back to that menu and hopefully you will see it

Don’t forget to mention you have to be signed into an account to get the update. Because I just did all this and there’s no firmware update option only drivers. So you obviously at the very least need to make a canon account in order to do so.

thank you for this tutorial unfortunately I could not get this SD card method to work for me. I followed your steps and everty time when I got the SD card back in the camera and go to firmware and try to update it would say file not found or some shit like that. Anyway, I took my cam and lens back to best buy and the canon expert at geek squad suggested I do it by plugging the camera in to the computer, I'm not quite sure how to go about it after dowloading the firmware, can anyone give me steps for that?

How do you update canon camera firmware without a desktop/laptop? I only have an iPad Pro. I have 5d3 and 5dsr which do not have wireless capability. T.Vs, mobile phones etc update operating systems and firmware wirelessly. When will cameras emerge from the Dark Ages?

Canon wants you to only use the useless software for mac or windows. I had to scan read 920 pages just to figure that out. I bet if they told everyone about that they would not sell another RP unit. As is i am done with canon.

90D already has a firmware 1.1.1 out in which now you can record 23.98 fps in full HD and 4K.

Ben I have a question, with firmware updates do you need to do them in chronological order, ie: 1.1, 1.2...etc; or do you just need to do the latest update in order to gain all the updates?

Hi Micheal, thank you, everyone is well here I am glad to say. I hope your family is well to. The good news here is you just need to apply the latest update, as long as it is for the Canon camera that you are using. To find out the latest it will tell you on the Canon website next to the information for you particular camera.

I have never heard of this happening with the new update, I would suggest installing the old firmware if possible, and then re uploading the new 1.4 to see if this works.
