My very first SLR. I am still a Canon user and have had many variations of them.

Thank you for another great video. I have two FTb's and four other Canon F-series cameras, all bought this year, and I love them. If you were ever to do a 'prism box cleaning' video I would be interested. Except the FTb's, all my cameras have dirt in the viewfinder to some extent.

Liked it so much I bought two of them. All manual cameras are the best best for explorers as batteries are not an issue.

I had a Canon Ftbn in chrome for a couple years before I sold it to a friend. Great tank like camera.

$225 new in ‘73 - which was $25 less than a similar specced Nikkormat. Which is why I went with the Canon. Shooting an R6 mk ii these days - when I shoot digital.

It is amazing how early purchasing decisions can set one on a lifelong path with a particular product or manufacturer. It is also handy that Canon continued to make excellent products! I bought a Topcon R recently. That company wasn’t as fortunate…!

The automatic regulation on these is bizarre. It's the same as the F-1 You fit a mechanical ring to the front of the lens This links to the flash, which links to the meter. The ring has some resistance contacts inside it which mean that the meter now is adjusted by the focus distance to the subject, the film speed you've set, and the state of charge of the flash. It generally always fires at 100% - or close to it. Theres no regulation at all. It's right before automatic electronically controlled flash became a thing.

Hi! You mention @4:10 that a 1.5V alkaline battery is good to go (PX625A for example) Does the metering have to be compensated?

A black FTb is rare. The only black cameras Canon made are the F-1, EF and A-1.

Black AE-1 too

AE-1P also came in black

My neighbor gave an FTb Canon like yours but no viewfinder. I’m guess it’s an older model?? 🤔

Hey great video! I've heard that the Alkaline battery gives false meter readings, is this true? Kind regards.
@Leo9ine3 жыл бұрын
Yes. You need to find the 1.35v batteries. Alkaline and other modern batteries are 1.5v. They're available at a bit of a premium, I paid $10 for two.

hi there may i ask what's the difference between FD and a FL lens?
@japanvintagecamera88693 жыл бұрын
The FD lenses had an improved diaphragm system for stopping down the lens.
@国電狂鉄II Жыл бұрын
Please allow me to explain further. FD lens system was made at the some time of year the Canon F-1. FD lens features of made possible the TTL full aperture metering system. Until then,Their was only aperture metering system that many camera. I think that invation which remain Canon history.

Does the FTb have a cloth shutter? I wasn't aware it was a brass camera, either. I always shied away from them because I thought they were plastic.
@japanvintagecamera88694 жыл бұрын
Yes, the FTb has a cloth shutter. However, it is very high quality, much better than that used in the old Pentax cameras.
