i have experienced with this camera too. Really capable pocket camera at that time. If this pocket camera have cold shoe and mic jack, i probably still using it even right now. 1080p resolution on this tiny camera was gorgeous. I can rely the AF feature of this camera. If you have chance miss focus, just tap it the object you want focus it. And camera will do it for you. Your footage mostly will stabilize and also don't forget, This tiny camera has ND filter on it, so you can relax shooting outdoor on day light. OMG, i really love this camera. when G7x Mark iii comes out, i'm so excited it come out with mic Jack input. But shamefully, not have cold shoe to put mic ext. anywhere on the body. and even they put it 4K resolution to that camera, the AF much worse than Mark ii. So i graduated from G7x Mark ii and enter the mirrorless camera world right now. What a journey there. but in 2021, Sony release pocket camera ZV1, and it's fully checked what i think pocket camera should have at 2017. If that camera release at 2017, maybe i already buy it.
@beckybokeh Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment! :) You’re right, it’s a brilliant little camera but does lack 4K and the use of an external mic! But I think the other features make up for it considering it’s price/size and when it was released. I just ordered this camera. I was looking to step up from phone pics and don't want to carry around a full size dslr. Watched many reviews and comparisons with the Sony, Panasonic, & Ricoh offerings, and the G7x ii seems to hit the sweet spot with its sensor size, f1.8 low light ability, zoom range, overall dimensions, price, tilting screen, ergonomics, and Canon's reputation for color reproduction and ease of use. I don't plan on shooting much video or doing any vlogging so the lack of external mic port, hot shoe, etc aren't really cons for me. Time will tell if this camera suits me, but i think I'll enjoy it based on the reviews I've seen. Thanks Becky for taking the time to make this review.

Thanks, I had it once but it broke on me... still thinking of getting it again. This is a REALLY good camera if you know how to handle it properly. You can easily trick people when you present the finished picture by claiming it was taken with a DSLR. I purchased this camera back in 2018 right; before the G7x Markiii came out, ironically the price of a brand new came was 5 hundred something USD. The value has definitely gone up to 7 something from what I see in the US and UK. This is a great camera; I use mine for cinematography and KZbin videos mostly; the only real issue with this camera is; the focus issues; I hear a lot of people say the same about this camera. I've found my way around those issues by using the lens tracking feature however; it only minimizes the focus issue by, I would say 95% I wish it came with the ability to shoot in log; I found a way around that too by creating my own makeshift log profile settings which works well. Besides those issues; I absolutely love my G7x Mark ii. Oh yeah, I wish that it came with a mic input as well.

Thanks for your comment! It has definitely gone up in value as you say, and seems to be continuously growing in popularity! :) It is a great camera for sure. Hi Travis, thank you so much for your very kind comment, I really appreciate it :) For the full moon photo the main tips would be to use a tripod to ensure no shakiness, use the 2 second timer feature to further reduce shakiness, and shoot in manual instead of auto so you can play around with the ISO etc and not over expose the moon :) hope that helps!

Remote control is possible but a smart phone is required but this is far to much screwing around. What's wrong with supporting hardwired push button? Otherwise a outstanding camera for it's class.

I am thinking of buying it. I had a 2nd hand Canon G15, and loved it because it had external controls that allowed me to set the speed and aperture without digital menus, with the wheel and so on. This made its use very intuitive to me (I do no know much about photography) and engaged me in photography. I got that camera stolen and I'm still missing it, because compact cameras are tending to digital menus. When I see something nice to shoot, I just can't get to open a menu and think and look for the right exact value mentally. I like real buttons and wheels and real viewfinders... 😅 Is this camera also used with the physical wheel and buttons? As for the direct picture import to the cell phone, can you choose to import only one or two pictures, or do you have to import them all at once? Thank you!
@beckybokeh Жыл бұрын
For me personally, on my G7Xii I do everything on the touchscreen. If you are a fan of buttons you may be better with a DSLR where you can assign different functions to different buttons 😊 And for the Canon Connect app you can choose to just import 1 images or a few images or all of them all once 😊

Glad you enjoyed 😄 yes I’m pretty sure the ND filter can be used in video mode :)

what settings do you use to get the bokeh effect?
@beckybokeh Жыл бұрын
For the best bokeh you should try and use a lens with an aperture of f/1.4 - f/2.8. For the shots of the camera in this video I used my 50mm STM Canon prime lens which has an aperture of f/1.8 at its widest, which allows for really lovely bokeh on the shots :)
@almlnz Жыл бұрын
oh so you used another lens? i thought the shots are directly from the lens that came with the camera.
@beckybokeh Жыл бұрын
Sorry I think I’ve misunderstood your comment So for the shots of the canon g7xii I used my canon 750D + 50mm prime lens (like the shots at 1.52) But in terms of creating the bokeh effect using the Canon G7X Mark ii such as the images at 4.21, it is best to use the widest aperture on the camera. So on the G7Xii the widest aperture is f/1.8 or f/2.0 depending on your focal length. So basically to get the nice blurred background bokeh effect on the canon G7Xii try and use the widest aperture you can :) hope that helps

Does this do super slow motion video?
@beckybokeh Жыл бұрын
The G7X Mark ii does slow motion at 60fps. If you are wanting super slow-motion you may want to look at the G7X Mark iii, which can shoot 120fps at full HD :)

Do you always shoot in RAW?
@beckybokeh Жыл бұрын
Yes! Lately I have shot all my photos in RAW, it helps when I put the images in lightroom later to edit :)

@@beckybokeh Can you transfer RAW to the phone as well using the Canon APP, or only JPGs??

Yes you can transfer RAW files too :)

Its a cute lil camera, why carry a big chunky thing around London...... this is perfect. I got mine fix to my handle grip for stabilization.

Agreed! It was perfect when I visited London this year, literally fits in your pocket :)

They need to solve the dust problem. I want a camera like that, but I do not want to drill a hole in the lens and suck dust with a vacuum.

After 3 years of continuous use I haven’t had any issues with dust with this camera

If I at least bring my Canon G7xii I dont feel bad for leaving my Sony full frame. Such great cameras and better ergonomics than the RX100 series. I think I will keep mine.
@beckybokeh Жыл бұрын
Totally agree! I think I will keep mine for a long time :) I often take the g7xii instead of my DSLR, it is so much easier to carry around

I’m having a hard time with the focus in video mode. It’s ridiculous
@beckybokeh Жыл бұрын
My best advice is to play around with the focus settings. If you are vlogging a lot you can log your face into the camera so that it can easily recognise it and focus on you.
@madebyut Жыл бұрын
G5X II is for photography. G7X II and III are for vlogging.

I would say the g7xii is quite good for photography also, I’ve got some really nice shots with it :) I’ve not used the g5xii

Hi roza, when do you find that your images are soft?
@rozapavlova4131 Жыл бұрын
@@beckybokeh They are soft at the widest angle.
@beckybokeh Жыл бұрын
@@rozapavlova4131 the images at 4.14 and 4.41 were taken at the widest angle and I found them to be quite sharp. All my timelapses were taken at the widest angle also. If you are wanting to reduce softness I would suggest shooting in RAW which will help to increase the sharpness and detail of your images

This review is my experience with the camera and in my experience for the price I picked it up for - but mainly the size - the camera is great. But you are definitely entitled to your own opinion!
