It’s partially just because a variation on Canon in D as a baseline is so common. There’s a comedian I forget the name of who did a bit call “Pachebel’s Rant” that I found absolutely hilarious basically riffing on that very point while playing a number of songs that all sound basically like Canon in D.

@@matthewtanous7905 Oh absolutely. Pachelbel's Rant is fantastic. The whole Blues Traveler song Hook is the same thing where that progression sells songs. Even so, this rendition didn't make a big deal out of the transitions and just floated along. Others can and do flip all over the place completely changing the key, meter, dynamic, or really anything else to make their "randomness" obvious. This one is quiet and smooth making the easy listening even easier

Very well done. I was rolling at the ending theme from Super Mario 2! The theme at 0:37 is also a hymn titled "Give Thanks." Go West, the song by The Village People, came out in 1979. The hymn was written before that, and I think VP sampled the tune from it.
