Wide angle lenses are a fantastic tool for you to take more creative and interesting pictures. They are usually considered to be anything wider than 35mm effective focal length, which means that for prime lenses, they would begin at 24mm then down to 16mm and again down to 10mm. A 10mm lens is often called an ultra wide angle lens. These lenses are more expensive that the standard lenses because they are more difficult to build.
Of course, you do need to remember the crop factor here. The Superb Canon Lens course explains the crop factor in detail, if you are unsure about it. But for this video it is enough to say that for a full frame camera, the focal lengths don’t change and are the same as the focal length written on the side of the lens. However, for a crop frame camera, you would need to multiply those focal lengths by the crop factor - 1.6. So a 10mm lens would have an effective focal length of 16mm and a 16mm lens would have an effective focal length of a 25mm lens. A 24mm lens, which is regarded as a wide angle lens on a full frame camera, on a crop frame camera would effectively be a 38mm lens and that would be considered to be a standard or normal lens focal length.
Wide angle lenses are very popular with landscape photographers, because they take in so much of the view in front of the camera. This enables you to capture large expanses of landscape and countryside. And, as they have a wider field of view than the human eye, you capture more in the frame than you would see normally. This means that the picture captures, in that small sliver of time, more information than we could actually absorb ourselves. Even when we look at a picture taken with a wide angle lens, we are expanding our knowledge and understanding of the scene. And if we stop down the aperture, we can achieve more depth of field, making more of the image sharp to the viewer. This allows us to have the foreground, midground and background sharp, and so use all the frame to tell a story, rather than use shallow depth of field to focus the viewers attention on a certain part of the picture. Of course we should be careful when using this technique, as we don’t want to overload the viewer with extraneous information.
But many photographers would say that this is not really what wide angle lenses are about. When you shoot wide, you will see that the image is distorted, and that distortion increases towards the edge of the frame. This is a natural consequence of shooting with these kinds o f lenses, and it allows you to play with the picture and choose what to emphasise within it. This allows you, the photographer to influence how the viewer interprets your photo. Wide-angle lenses also allow you to get really close to something in the foreground, which will emphasise it and make it look larger and more imposing than the background elements. That is, a wide-angle lens alters the perceived size of elements in the frame - elements that are closer seem larger than they are while elements in the background seem smaller. Since wide-angle lenses include a lot in the frame, you’ll need to be extra vigilant to make sure that there are no distractions.

I have a full frame Canon 5ds camera, and I'm looking for a wide angle lens. I already have the Canon 50 mm f 1.8, and the Tamron 28-300 mm. Wich one do you recomend me to buy next (Not too expensive)?

Hello, I would look at the Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 Art lens and also the Rokinon FE14M-C 14mm F2.8 lens ( this one is manual only).
