Purchased this as an impulse buy last week for our Disneyland trip and i must say that for a point and shoot camera it has great zoom as well as the flip up screen helped out a lot and the WiFi sharing is great too. I don’t vlog but I do take ocasional quick videos so a microphone jack to add a better microphone would have been great but other than that I’m glad I purchased this camera I’m very happy with it for what I need it

Great review, I have the 720 and might upgrade to this to get 4K, lack of panorama mode is no issue, in camera panorama stitching takes time and is never very good, just take a sequence of photos and stick them together in photo stitch of Photoshop gives you much more freedom and will always provide better quality panoramas than using the in camera modes in other cameras. The zoomed shot of the Hollywood sign showed you just how bad air pollution is in LA, quite shocking, thanks for a great review, although I would love to find this camera for $250 here in the UK, dollar price here in the UK for this camera is $440, we do get ripped off though over here in the UK, they call it rip off Britain or treasure Island. :-)

I enjoy the sx740 hs so far. I know it's not a good expensive camera but it's about the user too. I'm sure theres a way to compensate for low lighting. But it's not like I will take it into a cave or anything. Concerts...maybe but considering one camera I had was stolen from a concert...Im a bit iffy

Hi! Love your videos! Would you still recommend this camera in 2021/2022 for vlogs/travel vlogs and maybe some interior videos/vlogs as well such as unboxings, reactions? Is it good for taking great pictures and nice 4K quality videos with no recording limit (even in low light outside..let's say a city downtown where you do have lights on the streets), are the internal mics good enough outside and the stabilization (according to what type of camera is)? Does it has a 4k video quality and picture quality similar to top smartphones or the quality is inferior? How is the autofocus quality - is it good or with problems similar to the one in the G7X Mark III. Or should I get the DJI Pocket 2 Creator Combo (with wireless mic) or just the standard one (for 4K vlogs)? Ooh..also does this Canon camera connect to the pc so I can use it in OBS with a Røde USB mic? I also have a LED ring light and a green screen. Now when I'm recording vlogs/travel vlogs I use my smartphone (Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus with a Ulanzi mini tripod/selfie stick and a Saramonic smartphone mic) but it records 4K only with the back camera and I have no screen to see myself...plus I just wanna use it as a smartphone and want a separate camera for videos because it's much more okay for me. When I'm recording videos in front of the computer I use my 1080p webcam in OBS with my Røde NT USB Mini mic. Which one do you think has a better image quality in 4K, better sound and better indoor video performance using a led ring light - DJI Pocket 2 or this Canon camera? A small sensor like this does not allow for much background blur ( bokeh). You can get a bit of bokeh as long as the subject is far away from the background and your close to the subject.

Great video. Was just wondering how I would add an external microphone to this camera to record videos? Such as a Blue Yeti microphone. This camera does not have a spot to attach the audio cables that come with the Blue Yeti. It only has a USB and HDMI component. Would I just have to use OBS to record my audio portion using an external microphone then sync the audio and video files on my editing software?

hey there the only way to do that is via your computer. Once you have connected the camera to your computer you might use an external microhone as well. the camera does not support a 3.5mm jack. Daniel

No this camera has poor mic quality as for any other camera that still point and shoot. I have the CAnon SX60 mic quality is poor is just a bit to muffle and not as clear, you can try upload one in youtube your video sound sound pretty bad. My LG G7 has a better mic quality

Thanks for the review and for pointing out that the camera lacks panorama mode. It's so important and Canon is just so stupid. There is absolutely no reason to not include this feature which you can find in every mobile phone for the past 10 years. And with a midrange smartphone you can have slow motion, but not with a canon camera which costs 350 dollars (or 350-400 euros). I'll go with a Sony hx60 or hx80. I hope someone from Canon sees that review and that comment.

for me it is very important that I take pictures and see myself in the camera, here the screen is moving apart, it is very important for me, 40 optical zoom is enough for me. A beginner most likely has issue of not working out the camera trying to figuring out how to make it work properly. I can help you out no worry, for this camera its very hard to make the video come out super good for a beginner, You need to set your video at 1080p Full HD, you can have 4k but it eats alot memory bytes. Note this camera is only good when there alot of lights not low light. If your hard on camera then try to get a smartphone thats can deal better job. :)

I wasn’t feeling my camera I felt like I should of purchased a more expensive one to have better quality and more features. In all actuality you showed me that my camera has different features, I didn’t know I could charge my camera in the car so I’d take it out and plug it into the battery charger and it was just a lot. So I’m happy with my camera again. I also didn’t know I could use an app so that was cool to.
