@@anubisai What are you talking about? They perform at least as well or even better thanks to advances in autofocus and mirrorless tech. The only time "they don't resolve" is the very rare instance where a super high mp sensor is being used and some lenses are not up to snuff. That is very uncommon and it is more pixel peeping than anything else. And that does not include the R10's sensor so all of the canon ef/ef-s lenses as well as 3rd party will perform every bit as good or better on the R10.

Man, you missed the mark here. On March 4th Canon announced they have approved Cosina to build a 50mm lens that communicates with the RF system. Canon also announced in the same press conference that they are in talks with other manufacturers to begin production. Third party lenses are on the way. REGARDLESS!! The Canon EF to RF adapter lets you use ANY of the millions of budget friendly EF or EFS lenses on an R10 (or R7) seamlessly. In fact, some people say the EF lenses work better on RF mounts than they do on the legacy units. Lens cost is not an issue for the R10. I personally don't own any 3rd party lenses. I have three USM lenses and three L lenses, all Canon, that I can't wait to try on an R10. A generic adapter is fifty bucks, the Canon brand is a hundred. R10 for professional videography... The entry level camera for professional anything is a no-go. Step up to the R7 or R5 if you want professional performance. The R10 shoots very nice video out of the box, very nice entry level video. Great for showing the grandbabies to grandma or popping out a quick tiktok video. That's what this is for. Didn't even touch on burst rate. The fastest of ANY camera by any manufacturer at this price point. Or the Digic X processor which smokes the Digic 8 like a cheap cigar. Low light performance on an R10 or R7 with a Digic X will crush a full frame R or RP with the Digic 8. It's been tested. Rolling shutter is an issue with the R10 and R7, but I think some firmware fixes down the road will be able address that. Canon worked the bugs out of rolling shutter with the R8.

Yes, EF lenses perform ofc better on RF mount than on EF cameras: - autofocus... not only do have mirrorless much more AF points, but also they are nowadays just faster and better than old DSLR autofocus systems, especially the lower end DSLRs were just bad. Also (eye) tracking and all the "AI" stuff plays a big role. - stabiliser... with some exceptions (Sigma 150-600C for example) its the same (optical IS) or just another world when the lens doesnt have stabiliser built in (IBIS on R7, R6 etc) - longer and darker (F6.3, F8, F11,...) lenses. Once unusable on DSLRs because too dark for autofocus to work are now working just fine on mirrorless systems. For example the RF 800 F11 would have been impossible on DSLRs AF systems. So yes, EF/DSLR lenses perform on mirrorless even better compared to usage on a DSLR. Something many people just dont realize when they cry about canons expensive and small number of RF glass. But i guess they are all lower end/small body users where their argument really makes sense?

I am seriously about to buy a camera, and the R10 is on the top of my short list at this point. The lens issue concerns me. I absolutely cannot drop 1000+ on a lens, much less multiple lenses at such prices. So I wanted to know what you think of the bundled lens or lenses that come with the R10 (on amaze on). There is an attractive bundle I've noticed there for between fifteen and sixteen hundred(1559, 33 Street). The 18-150 is a Canon RF-S lens. What is your take on that? Anything better to suggest? It would be nice to have one do-everything (or at least close to everything) lens. But I also want to do some macro photography, and I'm not sure if I'll need a separate lens for that or if the bundled 18-150 will be decent enough for macro photography. Another route for me is a camera without interchangeable lenses, and just finding a high-end compact camera (maybe MFT or 1" sensor) with a versatile built-in lens instead. But I would rather have APS-C (or full frame, except that the lens costs, weight and bulk make me much prefer APS-C instead). Maybe MFT, if everything else is right. Or just get a second camera with a smaller sensor and a built-in lens that is good for macro photography, and just settle for lower pixel counts on the macros (high-resolution macro shots are not as important to me as high-resolution non-macro shots).

I would recommend: R10 or better the R7 its noticable better As a 18-150 Kit to save about 100$ additionally For proper Macro i would suggest a EF RF adapter (preferable a Meike EF RF Filter Adapter, its worth every penny!) and any affordable 50-100mm macro lens which can do at least 1:1 magnification. I would just stick with affordable EF(S) glass, there the "lens problem" is basically non existent, EF mount is one of the most used ones still (RED cameras etc) and has a better and especially more affordable lens selection than Sony for example. You have with a 18-150 RF-S kit lens basically the "do-everything" lens, it works great at 100-150mm as "Macro" lens, but i would suggest something with more magnification for small insects etc and probably even 2:1 magnification and good manual focus ring(s)

I ended up buying one, I shot 128GB of footage this week. It was all in direct sunlight on a 20-21 degrees C day. I mostly used cropped 4K60 and about 5 minutes of 1080 120fps and a small amount of 4K30 as well. The 4K30 is the only one that displays the “may overheat” warning when selected, and I never saw the temperature indicator appear in any mode. I was pleasantly surprised all in all, I expected 4K60 and 1080 120 fps to overheat quickly. I’m hoping it still goes ok as temperatures rise further into spring.

Iam a little confused about the ending the camera records in 8 bit only . Buy you can turn 10 bit 4 2 2 on then its good how is that a drawback? Most cameras seem to record in 8 bit by default.
@stormsandfishing5448 Жыл бұрын
As far as I can tell the only drawbacks of using HDR:PQ mode (10bit) is the higher bitrates - 4K60 could no longer record on a UHS-1 card, and windows wouldn’t play the video for me ( but I could still open it in clipchamp - I haven’t edited or exported any to see how it goes). For me it’s easier to just use the default 8 bit.

But You can use for example Sigma 18-35mm with adapter on R10, right? 🙄️
@harrison00xXx Жыл бұрын
You can also adapt a 300mm 2.8 prime on the R10, the question is if it makes ANY SENSE? Why buying small and light "low end", and the crippled R10 is low end, and then use the sharpest, "best" APS-C lens (and a monster of a lens it is...). I have the EOS R7 and a Canon 17-55 2.8 as well some other lenses. The 17-55 balances more or less the R7 very good out when i hold the camera as its intended to be on the body and lens, but its otherwise very front heavy. I also tried the R10 with the 17-55 and even this noticable lighter and smaller lens compared to the Sigma 18-35 feels just wrong on it, small grip and the lens dragging down is just super uncomfortable. The only thing which could have saved the R10s purpose would have been a more acceptable 18-45mm RF-S lens, but its utterly garbage and even most of my vintage lenses have a sharper image and better IQ anyways. If anyone really want to go the R10 way.... just go directly R50 or even R100 to save some money on your first and bad purchase. Wait for a R7 or R8 as Mk2 variant, a R80, R500 or whatever canons naming scheme now is since im very confused since R8 release and their EOS-M lineup in general. Or be less stupid and go directly at absolute least EOS R7, better R8 or R6 II or even R5 so you have reasons to get at least good RF glass.

Canon can easily add C-log in this camera by firmware update as 979USD is not a beginner price. It is for intermediate users who want to upgrade from M50 or M200 and learn color grading. Also, you could mention about kit lens--- why does canon not use M50's 15-45 f3.5-6.3 lens?
@harrison00xXx Жыл бұрын
The Canon R7s clog3 CAN (!!!) be better, but I played around with it a lot and as nice the color grading can be, for most of my shots where i needed higher ISOs (like "just" ISO 3200) i needed to run every footage not shot on ISO 800-1600 thru Topaz Video Enhance AI or Video AI to denoise. Clog3 footage, at least on R7 looks "horrendous" at some "bad" ISOs like ISO 400 (much noisier than ISO 800) or ISO 3200+. At all, clog3 introduce a lot of noise (in camera noise/hot pixel removal OFF!), while i can use HDR PQ all day long and even at ISO 12800 or 25600 for ultra low light on a radioactive 1.4 prime lens with acceptable noise and 25 fps (1/25 shutter speed). Noise removal in camera on video sadly can decrease image quality HEAVILY when going out of the very tight range of 800-1600 the R7 operates nicely for better DR, clog3 additionally messes up with noise introduction. I prefer HDR PQ a lot more than clog3 on my R7. HDR PQ is not as nice to color grade more intense, but still A LOT is possible to stretch and change. The main advantage of HDR PQ mode: Its out of the box ready to watch on a HDR monitor/screen and good looking color and exposure wise when you got the exposure right (hard at changing environments and when in any Auto exposure mode). In post i can edit the stuff still very good and export as a regular, AWESOME looking SDR 8bit format or an edited HDR/Dolby Vision format in 10bit.

Not recommended tho... For 140$ you get a Meike EF RF Filter (!!!) Adapter, ND + clear filter included. I paid once 185€ or so with an additional C-PL filter. I was always interested in filters but prices, quality and adaptability (which size....) was an issue. Also the fact that you need an additional, probably big/heavy bag just for filters i rarely use or need. The in-between filters are also optically MUCH SIMPLER TO MAKE, hard or even impossible to see any quality drop. Cheaper, better, more versatile, especially since RF cameras basically "need" an adapter for EF glass, so every EF glass can be used with a few super small filters.

Yes, EOS RP is best value for money (in basic photo usage), but for video you either use manual focus in 4K or stick with 1080p mainly and only and without slowmo modes. But i would rather say the R7, its noticable better than the R10: - low light... R7 has with its finer pixels a HUGE advantage considering the ISO handling is the same) - real clog3, unlike the messing around with HDR PQ (tho i prefer HDR PQ a lot over clog since i dont like to edit really and its less noisy) - burst speed, buffer size, better slowmo video, durable LP-E6(NH) battery,... -4kfine/downsampled 7k.... does the R10 even support any usable downsampled mode?

@@harrison00xXx Yes R10 has downsampled 4K30. R7 is superior in many ways as you say, with the exception of rolling shutter in video (more pixels = slower readout) and higher price. @@stormsandfishing5448 Still the R7 has a faster readout than the R10, not much faster, but a bit. R10, RP etc are super slow, the R7 "just" slow. But at least crop 4k60 is very good on the R7 as well any 1080p mode works great from 24 to 120 fps. I dont know if the R10 can do even 4k60 uncropped but if so, i guess its even worse than the R7?

@@stormsandfishing5448 I mean i happily replaced my E17 batteries on the RP (i had it for nearly 3 years before buying the R7) for the E6(NH), on the EOS RP i ate thru 3 batteries within one astrophotography night in the winter season (automated and guided via PC). I sadly cant do astrophotography anymore properly on the R7 (crop = too much zoom, 750mm newton gets 1200mm, software doesnt support R7, mount isnt precise enough for 1200mm at 3 minute+ expusore times,...), but the bigger battery lasts SO MUCH LONGER, combined with power over USB-C at usage in a stationary situation you can basically have endless runtime/recording (in for example 1080p or 4k60 crop without overheating, 4kfine overheats but slow, 1080p120 could record endless but its a lot of storage and you can even overheat and potentially kill your SD card) Funny thing... most SD cards are killed with endless recording/high bit rates continously. Hell, even when copying the SD card to the PC/storage drive the drive gets noticable hot (280MB/s read, 220 write) within just 15 seconds reading, writing is another story and they get much warmer.

Do you have an iPhone??? Canon is not money hungry. Camera companies make monies mostly from lense, it's exactly the reason why companies can't make iPhones, nor iPhone Lightning cables without paying Apple, they made the ecosystem at the cost of tens of millions, and they need to protect their ecosystem. The 30 minutes limit is for tax reasons. Camcorders pay higher taxes then Cameras. Also, with most Cameras, they would overheat if used for longer anyway so 30 minutes was not far off from the physical limit of the camera. It was just convenient until recently.

Wow, so if you throw in apple to say canon is greedy by calling out the cable stuff... Let me tell you that, i buy like every 3-7 years a new iphone, mostly because i am done with replacing the battery, it broke or because it got too slow/outdated. I NEVER purchased a iPhone Lightning cable in many years, Apple only made like 9,90$ additionally the past few years because i bought a (still working...) Lightning to 3,5mm audio jack adapter. But its a good analogy to be honest.... Canon also allows you to use EF(S) glass.... so your point is pretty useless anyways. The only thing i can give you credit for since its about the (garbage...) EOS R10... its light and small, also APS-C, so you want SMALL and LIGHT glass, preferable RF-S APS-C glass. But well, the average R10, R50 and R100 user has his lenses... 18-45 or 18-150, now piss off with your 0815 needs and go for something usable and worth its money or stick with your iPhone "camera".
