thanks for the review. I sold my IDX which was my studio camera. Shooting out of the studio like weddings. I have the R5 and R3. Love the R3. I now use the R5 for studio work, so want to buy the R5ii or wait for the R1. Buying the R5ii with grip and 4 batteries makes the cost a bit closer to the R1. I have 4 batteries for the R3 which is the same. If the R3 has better Dynamic range and better low light. I'm guessing the R1 will be that much better again. I've always shot with a grip through out my Digital years with Canon. The R3 molds to your hand so well. Much better than the R5 and grip. That's one of the reason why the R3 is such a great camera. After watching your video I may wait for the R1 now, an upgrade to the R3

Yes the r3 body is perfect size to me as well. The r1 does eat a size gain which is interesting. Personally I’m looking forward to the larger evf, perhaps eye af will work better for me then with glasses.

You can see serial numbers on the batteries and other items, including QR codes. You may want to blur some of those out so it doesn’t trail back to the dealer that sold it to you.

I heard the BG E10 battery grip is compatible (but doesn't support the higher features - I assume frame rates in still and video 8K). I wonder whether 3rd party batteries would work in that? But if just sounds like alot of compromise.

Thanks for the review, much appreciated. Good to know it won’t work with 3rd party batts, even if I don’t use them. I thought the ISO was usable (viewing on my 13-inch iPad) up to 52600 or whatever it highest it. I do have one question: Did you test using the electronic shutter when birds are flying in front of structure like a fence or building or house? That is when the R5m1 produced very noticeable rolling shutter distortions when using the electronics shutter. I would love to see how much, if any, improvement there is in the R5M2. The sensor read out speed is much faster than the R5 mark one. I was following a bird that flew behind a house, I did not notice any distortion on the building. I've only used electronic shutter so far.

Not everyone follows the rules or someone could have just made a mistake. Like the time they priced a lot of Canon lenses at $250 on Amazon during prime and the lucky few that had their orders ship before the error was caught saved thousands.

Can we get more info about R5 mark II body size speciations. How much larger is it then mark I? I’m asking because I have a full camera cage, with grips and everything else for the R5 mark 1 that also fits my EOS R6 mark ii and I’m trying to find out if it will fit the R5 mark II as well.

I no longer have the original r5. I think your best bet is to check the dimensions on canon's website. However, I can tell you the r5mark ii is about 2-3 mm taller and about 5mm more depth because of the grip. I have a aftermarket grip extension from the r5 that I am using to compare to for that depth.

Could you let us know which features / settings aren’t available when using the older LPE6NH battery in the R5II? I have a bunch of those batteries and I heard if you want to shoot video you pretty much have to use their new battery

I believe they are all video related. I do see the warning when its running off the lpe6nh battery of some features disabled. I will have to check and get back.

@@dexio8601 you still have the 45 megapixel images it’s just that the pixel density is better compared to the R5. You can push and pull the image more to get the fine detail details compared to shooting the same image with the R5 and not being able to do that.

Depends on what you’re looking for as a balance. I find colors to be the same, better dr on the r3 and lower noise at high ISO. However, if your factor in the cropping ability for some folks that may mean a better image

and then there's the 4 year old A1 that is nearly matching the R3 at high ISOs (50mp too!). Canon is really falling behind in the sensor tech vs Sony (and of course, Nikon). Not impressive imho.

@@JCustom A1 sensor readout is almost twice as fast as R5M2, a camera 3.5 newer. so is Z8/Z9 sensor readout. Canon R5M2 readout is about the same speed as Olympus OM1 or older Sony A1. I am 100% sure A1 M2 will have global shutter so the sensor readout will be zero :)

Canon should give R3 a firmware update with a clog2. R3 was so damn expensive, it's not fair for R3 users. You all keep kissing Canon's ass hard, so that your crippled r5mark xxxxx will have oversampled 4k60p.
