I think that following firmware updates, the r6 makes more sense now for video. It has C log 3, redudant recording on both slots and improved recording time before overheating. Usually, I think most peoplw should be satisfied with the record limit as in real lifez there aren't many scenarios that require uninterrupted 30min + recording.

I also thought so. still went with it and can tell you: there is almost no difference. I have sharper images then with my 24mp camera. by no doubt. this mp BS is completely not relevant to sharp images unless you blow up your images for time square billboards. and even then I would say that the Eos r6 will compete. the only issue is battery life as opposed to dslr. but there are solutions for that obviously. its a beast.

Remember mega pixels were the easiest way to explain quality to normal consumers. Professionals in ProSumers no that there’s so much more that goes into the quality of the image that megapixels alone. The sensor on the R is about five years old and it does not render nearly as well as a new sensor in the R6. Because of this the difference between the two is so minimal that most people can’t tell the difference.

I rented an R6 for a weekend to shoot soccer and some casual stuff around the house. I got 800-1000 shots, and about 5 minutes of 1080 video and the battery was only down to 30-40%. Not quite as good as 2500, but still more than the advertised 300. The thing I did was to set it so either the viewfinder or the rear screen were on,and I could switch which one with a custom back button assignment. This was my first mirror less experience and it was driving me nuts with the auto switching. I also turned off the automatic image review, as I was trying to follow soccer and it gave a much more natural viewfinder experience, IMO. I was pleased though that the battery did well. It was one of the specs I was worried about. On a 5D3 the battery seems to last forever. Definitely not so with the R6, but also don't think I'll be changing it every 2 hours. I normally leave a game with 300-500 shots, so I thought I'd have to change once or twice during the game, but not so. And the high speed mechanical shutter worked the whole time as well.

@@bbasiaga That's all pretty intersting. I'm going to tweek the settings on my R6 as best as I can think of and see what kind of battery life I can achieve. This has led to codec problems for me. I don't want to have to buy more software to be able to view the files I have filmed. I have no idea about video editing and I would feel happier sending files to an editor who doesn't have to have specialist software to edit my videos. I don't know if the original Canon R produced similar files. Any suggestions anyone may have in this regard would be most welcome.

I'm honestly happy with my 90D right now. It's a workhorse.

I shoot surfing from the beach with my EOS R6 in 4k 60 movie mode. The issue I have is the camera constantly overheats, even in cool weather conditions while not actually recording video. It overheats just from focusing on the subject while waiting to press the record button without actually recording any video! I simply have the camera on and I am watching the viewfinder while waiting to press the record button when someone gets up on a wave. In an entire hour of shooting, I probablly end up with 3 total minutes of actual recorded video. Is it normal behavior for the camera to overheat while simply waiting to shoot? I have temporarily disabled the servo-af and it has no effect. It still starts the overheat countdown timer while simply just waiting to record. I am leaving the viewfinder on the entire time to wait for someone to surf. Is the viewfinder alone, enough to trigger the overheat or is it the constant focusing that the camera is doing while waiting to press the record button that could be causing this?

Hey could you test something for me with the R6? I want to know if it’s possible to shoot a time laps with eye autofocus on? I would use this for self portraits. I use this method with my old 6D and magic lantern. I set up a time laps and every new shoot the 6D hunts for a new focus, so I has to stay on the right position in the frame and can shoot a lot of pictures of me without having a trigger or phone in my hand. It would be amazing if this method would be possible with the R6 and the eye detection autofocus, because i could move free in the frame without thinking of the focus, because the camera allays would search for my eye. Would be amazing if you could test this for me and give me a answer or maybe do a tutorial on your channel because I could imagine a lot of ppl could be interested in this method too. The R6 seems to be aimed at getting Canon DSLR users over to Canon Mirrorless. The R5 is aimed at winning over customers at other manufacturers (e.g. Nikon). On my 6DMarkII I can take about 2500 shots before my battery runs dry, though it really depends on extremely much factors. Like how fast am I shooting, which functions do I use and so on. So talking about battery life always, worried me, like it seems so little, but my experience is those numbers are never correct as I can shoot always more then mentioned. Though I do notice that the battery can go up quicker the longer you have the camera. Like I cannot get to 2500 shots anymore now with the same battery I had since I have this camera, maybe a max of 1500. Though still a huge lot compared to what's mentioned each time. So, even if I worry with the R6 on how much I can shoot, I think I will be fine. I totally will be buying more then 1, even if those batteries are more expensive then a lens nowadays.

shoot both.....why else you need a big camera...jpeg on phone save even more time. you don't need all the raw..just save the one you need editing.

I'm getting about 38 mins before it overheats in 4k60 (constant tracking of the TV). My recharge time is much different than yours also. I'll have to wait more than 20 mins before I can get 15 mins of record time. Sometimes it doesn't record the entire length even though it has time left. This camera is an update(s) away from being a great reliable run and gun wedding video camera. The quirks still need to be ironed out

I mean if you’re so concerned about video you should probably invest in a proper cinema line camera. The R6 is a great camera for video but the main purpose is taking stills...
@chrisb59404 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the review! I haven’t heard anyone talking about the over heating in stills mode slowing down the FPS to 6.8. I was wondering if you notice this happen if you were just shooting stills? For example if I was shooting a wedding (camera would stay on continuously) without any video is it possible for it to slow down? Or for that matter if its just sitting on a desk and kept on do you think eventually it would get warm enough that it would slow itself down. Thanks again have a good one!

Thank you, the camera only overheats from 4K video and it does not overheat from shooting stills. I really tried to make it overheat by shooting bursts for several minutes but it didn't happen.

Question does the R6 overheat for stills like let's say around 36 degree Celsius and shooting pictures over 3hours obviously shutting it down occasionally whenever not in use does it overheat at all I will not be using it for video at all then what about it

I just realized how far Sony is in the mirrorless game. The A7III came out in 2018 and for stills its pretty much on par with the R6. If not slightly better because of the higher megapixels count. I do feel that Canon is going to catch-up very soon as they are now slowly releasing more affordable lenses as well. Should Canon DSLR owners now switch to mirrorless or should they wait a bit longer? Not sure, the AF system is way better and the video features are nice too. But does it deliver better images?
@HyunRalphJeong4 жыл бұрын
I feel like choosing the "best" camera is so subjective nowadays. We can come up with 1000 reasons why newer cameras are better but some people just prefer older cameras too.

Thanks for your thoughts on this. I've been following your reviews on the new Canon's compared to the Sony system which I currently own. I was very close to making the switch back to Canon, after trying out the R6, but in the end, I could not get over the lack in value the camera brings compared to Sony. I think the R6 should be at least $1999, especially for the 20megapixel sensor and limited 4K recording. I really enjoyed the stills photography experience and it's overall speed, but I feel like they don't have as many options on the market yet for the lens lineup, and the good ones are quite big, and in my opinion, negate the purpose of moving to a compact mirrorless systems, in the first place. I think this system is perfect for existing Canon users that held on, but for already mirrorless camera owners, I don't see this system bringing anything new or unique to the table. It is an extremely fun camera, and with I could buy it in addition to what I already have.
