@@jordans.6769 the closest thing I can think of is Sony’s A6600 - but that’s limited to 8bit 4k30 with a crop on an APSC sensor. MAYBE the LUMIX S5 if we want to count full frame? But the AF, codecs, and lens selection really pull the R7 ahead of the competition in its price range.

Parker, great video as always. Just want to mention the photo/video switching in R5. It's complicated, but you can assign this option to buttons, so I set up the M-Fn button to be responsible for that and I can switch between the modes within less than a second with just one touch of a button, which is right next to a trigger.

Soooo excited for this video and it didn't disappoint at all! I was going to buy an R5C & RF lenses (after saving up) but I think I'm going to get this guy for the real estate, interviews, and corporate stuff I do and buy better lenses with the adapter, then buy the R5C later (or a new one that may come out).

I appreciate the review. Currently using the 90D and wanting to get the R7. I just keep hearing so many negative things about it. And with Canon not letting 3rd party RF lenses and the lack of RF-S lenses just feels like its being held back. I could be wrong.

I bought the Canon R7 after watching this review. Overall, as mentioned in the video, it is the best upgrade for people like me who are looking for an upgrade from the base camera (I used the iPhone 13 and the Canon 700D). The improvement was much better, especially with the 4k50fps capability. I can now shoot horizontally in 4k and use the same footage for vertical videos like reels. One minor complain is that despite the 2 SD card slots, the camera does not switch to the second SD card when the first SD card storage is full (maybe I have not figured it out yet). I am still trying out the features and I am definitely looking forward to getting better in videography and photography and maybe richer so I can upgrade to a full frame camera with 60fps capabilities. Overall 8/10 for the camera - portable, versatile and lightweight. Thank you so much for the video and I hope this helps. :]

I still remember when the SL2/200D and the M50 were the FTF recommended best bang for buck video cameras. Amazing how fast camera tech has advanced! Will have to get a hold that R7 soon... way to go Canon (and Parker)

To be honest even in late 2023 the M50 is still one of the best value propositions on the planet. I use mine for sports photo and video and it's been superb. If it had IBIS it would be perfect for me from a video standpoint, for photo it is near perfect when you consider everything. The 32mm f1.4 is one of the best lenses Canon has ever built and the 11-22 is the best wide angle lens I've ever used

I loved my sl2. It was my first camera and my husband dropped in on New Year’s Eve and the shutter button fell off and disappeared. Cried my eyes out but now I’m searching the market for my next upgrade now that I know it’s a passion and a good side hustle. I think I’m going to get this seeing as it is compatible with my gimbal.

I've only owned GH5 cameras so the APSC sensor has been a huge upgrade in sensor size with the R7. The bokeh at F1.8 is so amazing compared to F1.8 on the M43 sensors. The amazing AF means I can finally shoot weddings on a gimbal and be confident that it's in focus. My main problem with this camera is that you can't White balance while filming.

Oddly enough, I’m considering selling my R6 to get another R7. The cripples of the R6 vs the “Downsides” of the R7, I think the R7 is a more reliable unit. I’d rather have the peace of mind knowing that my camera isn’t going to shut down in the middle of a shoot. And really, the R7 is no slouch.

I'm just glad that mirrorless cameras have grips again. That annoyed me so much with the m50, that thing was a nightmare to hold. But I tried out some r series cameras at a product demo any my favorite was the r7. When I buy my next camera, it's gonna be the r7. Currently I use a 800d (t7i) so that dedicated video switch is a must for me.

You need to get an adapter for it since the R7 has an rf mount. Depending on where you're from, it shouldn't be that expensive (RF to EF adapter costs around $185 in AU) but it'll still have the same field of view, which you would need to get a speed booster instead. They come in to be more pricey, but I don't believe it's necessary to have a full frame field of view. Most movies (especially older ones) were shot on super 35 and have the same sensor size as an APS-C, so you can still do some incredible stuff with it.

The 2.8 aperture Canon 16-35 i guess? I tested it on the R7 before i sold my full frame camera with regular RF EF adapter and speedbooster and the IBIS on the R7 is going off like crazy (with both adapters, so you need to turn IBIS off for these particular lenses). Only electronically disconnected (so halfway mounted...) and by manually setting up the focal lenght i could make IBIS usable for the 16-35 lens. A problem i only had yet rarely (!!!) on 3rd party lenses but my Canon 16-35 2.8 was also affected by unusable IBIS on my R7.

If buying a new camera.. Would you say that for hybrid PRO (entry level obviously), would the R7 be a better option than maybe an R8, A6700, A7iii, Lumix S5 or even the GH5 ii? Curious, does the 0.71 adapter help improve the bokeh on the apsc sensor? As you had said, the r6 full frame gets that better blur given the bigger sensor comp to the apsc… does that adapter help the r7 get back some of that better background blur? Thanks for the video :-)

Yes, because when using the adapter, you cannot change the aperture of the lens, but you will change the focal length and the distance from the lens to the subject. For example you use 50mm on crop body, it will be equivalent to 75mm on fullframe, and you want to take a full body photo you have to back away 3m. But if you use the 0.71x 50mm adapter on the crop then it will be equivalent to somewhere 55-60mm on the fullframe, so if you want to capture your whole body instead of standing 3m you just need to stand 2m. From there, the bokeh will be improved.

Do you still use the full frame RF glass on this or would you suggest buying the rf-s lenses? I've been going back and forth trying to decide between the R7 and R8, primarily for video. I already own a couple full frame RF lenses. I don't really want to bother buying rf-s lenses (if I get the R7), however I do know that using full frame lenses on a crop sensor can soften the image. Do you think this is something to really worry about? The only advantage that I can see with the R8 is that it's full frame, but I like just about everything else about the R7 better besides that.

This review states that you will get a little bit more sharp detail when using the 4K fine mode instead of the normal 4K. I want to note that this is not the case. To demonstate the sharpness lost we are shown a close up shot of a mug. In such proximity, the line skipping of the normal 4K is not so obvious. In a busy wide shot the difference would be huge.
