When it comes to low light performance, that really depends on how you look at it. The Sony will look cleaner at ISO-12,800 because that's when its second native ISO kicks in, but the Panasonic looks cleaner at any ISO between 4000 and 10,000, so you really only get the advantages of the Sony if you're shooting at those insanely high ISOs at 12,800 and above. So unless you're regularly shooting with little more than moon light, it seems to me that the Panasonic is the more practical option when it comes to low light shooting.
@FulaanCreative
@FulaanCreative Жыл бұрын
Yes very true but for extreme lowlight that 12800 comes through. As a side note I've heard people use an ND filter on footage that doesn't need an ND just so they can bump the iso from 6400 to 12800 and get cleaner footage.
@skepsys
@skepsys Жыл бұрын
yeah, it bugs me that youtubers are applauding a7siii's sensor for being so good in low light, when that's not completely true / accurate enough, unless you're in a minority that regularly uses 12,800 and above
@skepsys
@skepsys Жыл бұрын
@@FulaanCreative that's interesting. i would like to see a comparison between an a7iv (or s5) at values between 4,000-10,000 and an fx3 at values between 12,800-32,000 with nd as to simulate 4,000-10,000. if noise and dynamic range are similar on fx3 or even better, than that would change my view on fx3's sensor being overrated for low light, as that would mean indeed it's the better choice in that regard. interesting..
@FulaanCreative
@FulaanCreative Жыл бұрын
@@skepsys I don't own any Sony cameras but a friend of mine has the A7sIII. I'm not sure how that ND trick affects the colors etc but it makes it such that you never have to take off the ND filter. Outside you would use the base ISO and inside you bump it up to 12800.

it all depends on each person's needs...if I'm looking for f1.8 prime lenses with great value, Canon has what it takes and of better quality than Sony. Same if I want a 24-105. If I want a cheap 24-70, yes Tamron offers the 28-75 for Sony, but there is also the option of the 24-70 from tamron in EF for canon. If I absolutely want the 20-40 from tamron, yes you won't have any solution from Canon...so it all depends on each person's needs. Now if we talk about Camera, the R8 offers almost what the zv-e1 can offer, and for the price of the zv-e1 I can have the r8 + mini gimbal + 1-2 lenses and other accessories to be ready to shoot…

I will be purchasing a camera in the next few months and i will definitely use your link. You taught me so much about this whole universe of camera stuff. One thing that runs through my mind as someone coming from a zv-1 and a go pro and an interest in vlogging, is that the trade offs involved in this level of camera are the price. I purchased a zv-1 to learn on. And quickly realized its a great point and shoot camera but its like having an upgraded gopro in a lot of ways. I dont know I would go with a canon just because they hold a monpoly on camera lenses for there cameras. But its still a tough choice to start this process with a lumix or sony. Both are great and both offer a learning curve for my abilities.

I just sold my S5II and only use my S1 for now. The details engine inside in the S5II is not as good as on the S1 with most profiles. Only V-Log is great. Maybe I will buy the S5IIX if Panasonic remove the (over)sharpening and noise reduction inside the other profiles.

@catattackcat8754
@catattackcat8754 Жыл бұрын
@@FulaanCreative The issue with V-Log is noise, if you use 6k and crop, V-Log has a lot of noise in low light compared to the S1 with Cine or Natural profile. My S1 is fantastic in 6K with these two profile, no oversharpening, no noise at low ISO, no noise reduction, just perfect. On the S5II, you must choose between noise (V-Log) or sharpening/NR (with every other profiles).

Absolutely love your content man. They have probably been the most helpful in trying to look for a cinema camera. So I'm a recently graduating student. I've been using a DLSR since 2019. the Nikon D5600 infact. It worked well for the budget and the time I bought it. But recently I want to get into making more high quality short films to apply to film schools and the like. I'd love something to work well in low light conditions. For example, I want to film horror shorts in the night time on location. So need something that I can really play with. But my budget is not great. From this video, it seems like the Lumix camera is the best value. But I don't want to risk buying a camera which will quickly become out dated in years to come? Would love your opinion on my options considering my context. Thanks a lot!

Would really appreciate your selects / advice on an affordable monitor that would work for a typical host / guest seated three-camera fixed (one wide, one over shoulder on each person) set-up in a 400 sq ft studio (light and sound rigs are robust), I do think the Atomos is overkill for this set-up but lost on an alternative @@FulaanCreative

This might be harsh, but it's like Sony is putting out a shiny turd with the zve1. Yes it's got flashy features, but it's not a camera you can rely on for pro work. $2200? What kind of entry level user will pay that amount? Man I got questions

Wobble gate, Full Retard 😂 Bro I'll watch anything you make camera related or not. The serious downside of the friggin ZV E1 is the overheating. To a certain point I ask what's the point 🤔 maybe content creators just give single takes to reduce editing time and f the editing time just post it... so the closest thing to a polished product comes out of the zve1. Whereas someone who has more time for editing etc will go with the S5ii(x). Although lighting is a great tool to have reducing the need for perfect lighting is pretty valuable. I wonder what the market research was behind these and who the targets were. Up in Canada lighting is a serious issue as its dark as hell in the winter unless there is a ton of snow on the ground and you're outside then it's too much. Such a hard choice with so much middle ground

The LUMIX S5ii looks great for everything I want. But my big hesitation with Panasonic are lenses. There aren’t many making lenses for this mount. This is why I won’t buy any of the new Canon cameras which I love. But Canon banning third party lenses is the dumbest thing ever. So that leaves Sony. While Sony is no slouch with video I’m more into photography as my primary and video as a hobby. Maybe Nikon’s Z8 will be a home run 😂😂😂. Seriously Nikon why have you failed us so hard?
@FulaanCreative

I never used a Nikon yet. Can't wait to try one. With lenses I found a sweet spot for quality and price. The only downside is weight and size. The solution is EF lenses. I use them both on Canon and Lumix. People keep saying the AF is not as good as mirrorless lenses but all my lenses work as flawlessly as I need them to.

@@FulaanCreative This is good feedback. Maybe I need to try better adapters. I know you recommend Meike and I’ve only tried Viltrox. I’ll try renting some gear and see if I get a combo that suits me. By the way love what you do Fulaan, I’ve learned a lot from you and you’ve helped me catch back up. As for Nikon I used them in early 2003 - 2006 era and they were amazing. But then got out of the hobby and have come back. Well let’s just say they aren’t what they used to be. Maybe it’s just me but their sensors have devolved some interesting color that just feels off to me.

Just don’t buy the r8. It overheats just shooting stills at 60 degrees for 10 mins not using the screen. It takes amazing pictures. If you can use a camera very very quickly before the battery dies and it overheats then the r8 may be for you. Good luck with video.

It does overheat but your experience seems more than normal. Most users and shoot video up to 30 fps to the 2 hour limit w/out over heating. The problem is more for 4k 60. As for stills this is the first time I'm hearing of it overheating for stills. That being said I'd go for the S5II over both the zve1 and the r8.

Great Video! I had the S5 before, but ditched it because the AF wasn't cutting it. I mainly used my R5 as my go-to hybrid camera with my C70, but ever since I picked up the S5II, my R5's been gathering dust. The Lumix footage matches my C70 even better than my R5, and I swear it's got better dynamic range too. Plus, the shutter angle and syncro scan are clutch. I've been rocking a Canon lens on my S5II for video and the autofocus is spot on. Great content, bro. Keep it coming!

For me, after testing the ZV-E1 and the S5II, I ended up buying the S5II. I was very curious to run some ISO and noise tests between the ZV-E1 (given the fact that it has such a big name for its sensor) and the S5II, and got some very interesting results especially when shooting in 6K on the S5II versus the 4K of the ZV-E1 (I might make a video soon with the footage I captured - it's interesting to see). My most interesting findings had to do with the noise in the in-between/higher values from the native ISO of these two cameras. - In my test the ZV-E1 cleaned up more than the S5II at it's second base ISO, but at the same time it got noisy more quickly when departing from that second base ISO. - The S5II cleaned up a bit less on its second base ISO, but less noise noise got added with each succeeding ISO step. - At extremely high ISO's (above 12800), the ZV-E1 was better, but the footage of the S5II was also usable. - The next bit is important however: the naturally more detailed 6K capture of the S5II allows for more noise reduction (external or in-camera) before the footage becomes less detailed than the ZV-E1, which has a softer look to it by default. One more important aspect is the fact that the S5II gives you control of the in-camera noise reduction. - For the record, when comparing 4K from the S5II (with noise reduction on zero) to 4K of the Sony, the Sony takes the edge. Of course when it comes to rolling shutter the ZV-E1 is much better.
@FulaanCreative
@FulaanCreative 9 ай бұрын
Awesome. Thanks for sharing your test results. I think overall the S5II is better for most low light conditions as the ISO range is more practical but the zve10, A7s3, fx3 are all better for extreme lowlight.
