Canon RP + 16mm f2.8 Image Stabilization Test (MUCH Better than I Expected)

I recently picked up a Canon EOS RP along with the Canon 16mm f2.8 lens. I'd like to use this for walk-and-talk segments, but how good is the RP's stabilization with such a wide angle lens? Are the corners all warp-y? Let's take a quick look.

Brilliant video. I was contemplating this lens, but was unsure, as the RP doesn't have IBIS like my Olympus, but having just watched this, I now have the lens solution I want, at the right price too. Perfect timing. Thanks again 👍

If money wasn't an issue, I would totally get the 15-30mm, but since I'm on a budget, I got the 16mm since it was only $250.

Hi Steven. Nothing to do with the video, but i was thinking that as a hobbyist a good cheap way to take photos is go for old DSLRs from Canon or Nikon. I meant, i have seen fully functional cameras for as low as $20usd (a Canon Rebel XS). And there are A LOT of good enough lenses in used market. If you compare the price of new mirrorless you can buy a complete DSLR system for the price of only the body of a new mirrorless. I'm thinking about selling my Z50 and Z30. For video i have my phone and a DJI Action camera. And i can find some cheap Canon with dual pixel AF for video (an small SL3 could be perfect). I only want the cameras for my personal use for vacations and family. Nothing professional. A SL line of Canon with a pancake (40mm, 24mm, even 50 1.8) is small enough considering the price of camera and lenses. I only wanted to share what was in my head these days.

Why not go even smaller? M4/3 has some really cheap and great performers. For example, I use GX80 (in some countries GX85) and paired with small lens (pancake zoom 12-32mm, 20mm f1.7, 45mm f1.8) it is small, hits well above it's price (and size) range, has amazing IBIS for low light shooting. Basically any Olympus Pen or Pen Lite series camera is the same. So many good gear to choose from and it costs peanuts compared to recent camera models. Many people bash Lumix AF for video, but for stills, in AF-S mode it is almost instant.

@@milanleskanic900 yeah, I agree. And the old Sony Nex cameras are pretty cheap too. The only problem with M4/3 is that seems like is not in the game anymore. The Canon and Nikon lenses can be adapted to up to date cameras, Sony too, but M4/3 are only for it's mount and I'm not sure about the future of m4/3

The SL line is has a lot of great cameras plus a ton of lenses. I have the original SL1, but it doesn't have dual pixel autofocus. That's the only downside with that one. The SL2 and SL3 both have dual pixel autofocus. But yeah, there's a ton of great options in the realm of used DLSRs and mirrorless cameras.

@@milanleskanic900 Yeah, the GX85 (GX80) with the 20mm f1.7 is such a great setup. It's super compact and is totally fun to shoot with.

Such dd for full frame camera is not acceptable as RP has) stabe is good, interesting what is the focus length after EIS crop

The 16mm lens with enhanced stabilization feels more like a 24mm lens or somewhere in that range.

You loose a lot of images quality when in digital IS and even more when in enhanced mode. I ruined a whole vacation worth of videos doing that. Don't use them. Warpy stuff is when a camera has IBIS.

It's interesting - I ended up not buying the Panasonic 9mm f1.7 because it was so warpy in every video I saw, but no one tried filming with that lens + digital IS. It makes me wonder if I should still consider getting that lens when I get the chance. I'd really like to try that on my Olympus E-M1 Mark II.
