Give the M6 Mark II another shot. No crop 4k puts it at same FOV as the RP and R, but with dual pixel AF working. $40 fotodiox EF-M to EF adapter can also help with lens selection. Would be cool to see! Maybe even compared to the RP, R, Olympus, and/or Sony.

Well my previous camera has been 5D I, had it until it died on me, so I went for RP. 5D had it's flaws but it was good enough and compared to it, the RP is absolutely unreal. If you're a professional photographer or videographer, forget the RP, if you're not, I see very little reason to buy a higher spec Canon. RP, for the price is unbeatable. What _really_ shocked me, was how much better the focusing is. Even in low light, even without the focus assist, still doesn't hunt much and it is spot on. 5D was hit or miss, especially on very fast lenses wide open. So, RP is probably more than you need. Oh and that Sony - Canon dialogue was pure gold.

Both cameras look pretty bad.. but it’s hard to compare in the shade of a tree.. all of the bounced light is oddly coloured… green from leaves and grass and blue from the sky… most cameras don’t do well in the lighting conditions shown in this video..

I had the RP for two months, before I dumped it on eBay. I used it a lot with the RF24-105 for indoor interiors with flash, and it was great. Outdoors, it was a disaster. Over 75% of my files required heavy shadow lifting. And that’s in raw, with standard scenes, nothing with extreme contrast. Based on my tests with my 15 yr-old 350D, it actually had 1-stop less dynamic range. Long story, short, I got tired of the crushed shadows and never regretted selling it.

Dude, there is nothing wrong with the Canon EOS RP body itself. I was in the same situation wondering if to return it or sell it. But I have bought a different cheaper or more expensive lenses. After that, I have noticed that the main reason my RP sucked was the 24-105mm lense itself, this is one of the worst lenses ever for me.

The fact that using EF S lens is further cripple hammered to 720p only was a huge fail in my opinion. The m50 can shoot 1080p with EF S lenses.

if you do a blind test originally, i am always going to go with the picture on the right side. You look underexposed on the left side while the hoodie youre wearing is also slightly out of focus right below your neck. While 0n the right side, imo, has you all properly exposed and your face and hoodie on your body all in focus. The sony tends to autofocus much faster than the canon... but this is no surprise as both cameras are not on the same level spec-wise. The Sony A7SIII instantly became my dream camera at launch.. mainly due to the fact that it has 4K120, however it came at a cost way beyond what i can afford so i left it permanently & till further notice in my amazon wish list. Fast forward years later..DJI pocket3 came out with 4K120, this was an instant buy for me... and with it i happily settled for Canon EOS RP which i use mainly for photography while dji pocket3 perfectly solves my video recording needs and saved me a shit ton of money!

You're not blind. A lot of the commenters who are saying the sony has better DR simply because the background is better exposed are missing the point. The Sony isn't exposing the subject correctly!

I finally settled for a third and even cheaper option giving good colors and better dynamic range for my preferred aperture settings. Not full frame.

Pro tip: keep the cameras you have and instead invest in a DSC Labs ChromaMatch Pro and learn how to neutralize the color science of all your cameras with your own custom LUTs in Resolve. Then use some basic grading tips in Resolve to get your footage looking epic. Also, My panny boy tiny sensor HC-X2000 camcorder probably has more dynamic range than the Canon RP. But joking aside, all these cameras are great. Stop spending so much on cameras, get a setup that works for you and then improve your skills in other areas :)

I would like to see how cheap and low you can go with the very worst specs before there’s a difference that actually matters. a nice image is great for a movie I suppose. Even though one of my favorite movies is Repo man. They might’ve shot that on a VHS recorder. It looks like that canon over exposes to easily. Blown out highlights everywhere. It would probably look OK in a controlled environment.

The only advantage of Sony is the maximum dynamic range at lowest ISO, above 800 - 1600 there is no difference. To be honest, the only scenario where the dynamic range difference could be a real problem are landscape photography with dynamically moving subjets. I classic landscape you could bracketing of +/-3EV and combine the final image in LR or similar software. If you can't make proper photography with 8.5EV dynamic range, maybe you're not as good as you might think. The real issue are the crappy orange - yellow-green SONY "colors" because they remain at all ISOs.
