The whole point of the Bill of Rights prohibiting an established religion wasn't to keep Christianity from being imposed on people. It was to keep any specific denomination from being imposed or for the government to discriminate between denominations. Christianity was a given as far as the founders were concerned.
@mekeishananton4359
@mekeishananton4359 Жыл бұрын
It was to prevent the establishment of any religion with penalty or the prohibition from free exercise of religion. The Mathew 28 charge does not justify imposing Christianity- Christ never imposed religion. He preached and allow man to choose. Isn’t the free will and choice of man why we have plan of salvation - so all of a sudden God will dispense with freedom of choice and free will and allow for establishment of religion by law. There would be hypocritical Christianity because persons will obey for fear of penalty. God is looking for change in our hearts not just profession ( Ezekiel 36:25-27;Hebrews 10:16). Your establishment of religion would lead to the persecution of the persons who don’t agree the same problem Paul and the disciples and the founding fathers experienced why they ran to the shores of the United States. Look at thé examples of God working with the disciples, when they were oppressed God freed them showing prohibition of religion is not supported and therefore establishment of religion is not supported either.
@jacobwatson3781
@jacobwatson3781 Жыл бұрын
The founding fathers were clear. The government can't force or pick what religion should be applied to citizens. Each citizen picks their own religion and government can't get involved.
@shmeebs387
@shmeebs387 Жыл бұрын
@@jacobwatson3781 Yeah, it was to allow the free practice of any religion. It had nothing to do with keeping your religious views away from your politics. You can't establish a particular faith, but you absolutely can base political decisions on the principles of your religion. Christian nationalism is entirely viable within the framework of the Constitution. It's not about forcing people to convert. It's about basing laws on the values of the Christian faith.
@jacobwatson3781
@jacobwatson3781 Жыл бұрын
@Shmeebs How do you square that with the Treaty of Tripoli? Also, In 1785, when the Commonwealth of Virginia was considering passage of a bill “establishing a provision for Teachers of the Christian Religion,” Madison wrote his “Memorial and Remonstrance Against Religious Assessments,” in which he presented 15 reasons why government should not become involved in the support of any religion. In his first term as president, Thomas Jefferson declared his firm belief in the separation of church and state in a letter to the Danbury, Conn. Baptists. He said: “Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between man and his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legislative powers of government reach actions only and not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should `make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,’ thus building a wall of separation between church and state.” What you're saying is 100% incorrect and rewriting of history, also very dangerous. You view is exactly what the founding fathers were afraid of.

"We believe that our gracious God, because of the depravity of mankind, has appointed kings, princes, and magistrates; willing that the world should be governed by certain laws and policies; to the end that the dissoluteness of men might be restrained, and all things carried on among them with good order and decency. For this purpose He has invested the magistracy with the sword for the punishment of evil-doers and for the protection of them that do well. Their office is not only to have regard unto and watch for the welfare of the civil state, but also to protect the sacred ministry, that the kingdom of Christ may thus be promoted. They must therefore countenance the preaching of the Word of the gospel everywhere, that God may be honored and worshipped by every one, as He commands in His Word." This canard, that "Christian Nationalism" is about a top down imposition of religion, by force, has been the "go to" position of evangelicals since some Christians began saying "enough" back in the 80's. No matter how many times, writers, preachers and ministries have stated that the postmillennial hope is based on conversion, not coercion - they'd rather create a strawman than honestly deal with the actual arguments. That says something either about their basic literacy skills, or their character - take your pick - it has to be one or the other.

Clark reminds me of myself when I was living in CT going to public school being raised in a liberal church. The Scriptures and the pursuit of truth and practiced humility led me to realize I was trying to please a culture that I regarded as Americanism and libertarianism but I always felt pluralism was off a bit. I see Clark concerned about engaging with the truth being afraid to find himself agreeing with Christian Nationalism. But Secularism is also a form of Christian Nationalism (most Democrats are Christians) but it has been preached into and introduced false doctrines and ironically the fear of being called a bad name is one of the mechanisms used by these wolves. My thinking is ‘we need less politics in Christianity but more Christians in politics’, to be salt and light and to call out secularism pointing all men to the truth of the gospel and its liberating power from sin and fear.

that’s essentially the point. All the people freaking out about so-called Christian nationalism Don’t realize that it’s not about imposing anything. It’s about preaching the gospel with one of the INTENDED GOALS being that the laws of this nation eventually reflect the laws of God. Because they are the only righteous laws. God’s law is the standard. but it happens from the ground up. Beginning with witnessing and sharing the gospel. and that’s what Doug believes. We don’t believe in a top-down solution

@@siebenboy Your explanation is much clearer than his response in the video. I think this also overlooks that many of the people freaking out about Christian “nationalism”, are freaking out not because they think the church will some day influence the government, but that in the current political climate the political systems have infiltrated the church. In other words, the real fear is not Christian nationalism, but instead nationalistic Christianity (I may have made this term up). It is the fear that many people in Christian leadership positions/churches have let their political desires and positions become more important than the gospel in there ideologies, teachings, and by extension their life styles. I have watched as many prominent leaders have seemed to be more pro Trump than pro Jesus. Many conservative Christian leaders have embraced conspiracy theories, propagated falsehoods, and at times have been more ideologically influenced by QAnon than the Bible. It is a problem when our churches become rhetorical vehicles for stolen election, or anti vaccination conspiracy theories in the name of political ideology. I still hear certain leaders in Christian camps saying that trump is the president, and will be restored into the office in the near future. In many Christian spaces they have traded truth for political alignment. So in short, I think we have a lot to fear from nationalistic Christianity/Christian nationalism. It is not truth seeking, it is corrupted political allegiance.

Growing up in the '50s and '60s, the general cultural consensus was Christian. It was reflected in government, law, education, popular entertainment (either explicitly or in what it did not present) and patterns of behavior that even non-Christians subscribed to. Even as we saw this slipping away in the late '60s and through the '70s, the changes that came were still viewed against a backdrop of an earlier standard. I would submit that we were living with elements of Christian nationalism. Clark says it would be wrong for us to desire and to work in the name of Christ toward a nation that looked like that again. By wrong, I assume he means sin. Sooooooo ... were our grandparents sinning by living, enjoying and -- as the attack on it became evident -- defending that culture? Should they have repented for attempting -- intenionally or unintentionally -- to build the kingdom here on earth? Did God want them to intentionally abandoned the culture to world? Should they have taken the lead on legalizing gay marriage and abortion? Should they have made America what it is now, 50 years ago? If we are to accept the present evil as neutral and we are forbidden to yearn and work to build a nation that honors Christ, shouldn't we be purging any remaining vestige of our grandparents' presumption? If it would be wrong in 2050, it was wrong in 1950 ...

BTW, quoting only that phrase from MacArthur's sermon can give others who never listen the the whole CONTEXT a very wrong impression. There are _two very different categories_ at play here! A true Believer who wants to follow God's will in witnessing to "the lost" on how to be saved will never, cannot, be satisfied with only, "Well, I'm glad you're free to believe whatever you want to!" And will want to have the freedom to publicly present the Gospel to whomever is sinning against God's clear Word. _But_ in the category of politics, we must fight very much for the Federal GOV to maintain the original "religious freedoms" the USA was founded upon to _not force_ all of its citizens to pledge their lives to any particular Christian denomination, nor jail or expel someone even for not believing in God... _HOWEVER_, today we live in times where many US citizens are attempting to literally replace those early "religious freedoms" with "Anything but Christianity" or even outright "Only atheists can be trusted to run the country!!!" Doing that will only finally result in the country being controlled by the devil, laws that you can kill anyone the state deems 'unproductive' and on and on! In Canada, it's already a crime to "witness" to many people; to call sinners to repentance!! I very much do NOT want a country run by the hypocritical R.C. hierarchy of the Middle Ages and all the way up to long after "the Reformation" in some countries; nor how a number of so-called "Protestant" countries were run either; with some of their own atrocities! BUT if the USA is not led back to maintaining true rights, equally, for ALL who live here, without hypocrisy, and laws end up becoming based only on what atheists want (such as even killing 1 month old babies! Yes some politicians have actually called for that!!) it will be doomed to be only whatever most want to do; or what only those in power (like the Nazis) or a tyranny or anarchy, but not true freedom.

@@thereisnopandemic Some of it is not Biblical. It reminds me of a movie that is based off of something, but it is not the True Book. Although, it is better to have some kind of foundation that reflects some of the Bible, then to have no foundation. But... The Book is better “Although the light of nature, and the works of creation and providence”. First wrong, that is, if they believe in “providence” as being that God willed and purposed all things to be as they are before the foundation of the world, then the confession is wrong. The original intent of the Bible does not show us that. The second wrong part, being this: “those former ways of God’s revealing his will unto his people being now ceased.“ God has told us in His Word that “and of His kingdom there shall be no end”. This means that all that is of His kingdom, which happened, and which He gave unto His church to continue His work while He is physically away, there is no end to. Everything that He has showed to us, and all things that reflect that same nature and way, and which will bring glory unto His Name, in which the Scriptures do not contradict; these are not done away with. A cessation is not biblical, but theological and traditional. I don't have a problem with the confession helping to establish some truths, and it is better than having no knowledge at all. But, the Bible is the Bible, and the westminster is not. Can God use it to bring people unto the knowledge of the truth? Yes. But, just like with the concordance, it is not a replacement for what God has shown unto us in His Word. It can help. It can be a guide, but the guide is not the Bible. “The Old Testament in Hebrew (which was the native language of the people of God of old), and the New Testament in Greek (which at the time of the writing of it was most generally known to the nations), being immediately inspired by God, and by his singular care and providence kept pure in all ages, are therefore authentical;a so as in all controversies of religion the Church is finally to appeal unto them.b But because these original tongues are not known to all the people of God who have right unto, and interest in the Scriptures, and are commanded, in the fear of God, to read and search them,c therefore they are to be translated into the vulgar language of every nation unto which they come,d that the Word of God dwelling plentifully in all, they may worship him in an acceptable manner,e and, through patience and comfort of the Scriptures, may have hope.” Nope sorry, all languages are a vulgar tongue, for they proceed forth from the Babel, when God confused the people. And all languages, since the fall have become vulgar. The Hebrew, Greek, Aramaic, etc, tongues are all vulgar. God gets the glory because, He can even illuminate all nations and peoples, and tribes, because He uses the vulgar tongues, which the Scriptures were even originally written in, to bring glory due His Name and to sanctify people unto Himself.

The only thing he can come up with is 'if we govern with Christian values then we will immediately go back to burning people at the stake if they don't profess a certain faith tradition. Whenever the interviewer tries to question any of his points he rams over them and doesn't allow there to be any exchange of ideas. He is just right and everyone must kneel to his sovereignty. We orthodox just like catholics got street prossesions on mayor christian holidays where we carring icons,crosses,christian banners,.... , in USA and western Europe you got "LGBTQ+ pride month" , and Doug Wilson is right , that is now american state religion. In communist countries was the same sh*t , all that banners,Stalin pictures,..... So , mister Doug Wilson is defintely not blind and stupid , Americans must choose which God Americans want for their nation and which state religion , because if you don't choose on time priest transmen or transwomen will baptize your children in the name on their god.

The foundation of Christendom was right and it was capable of reforming itself. So many evangelical elites argue the whole structure was wrong but the foundation was right and produced freedoms the likes of which the world has never seen before.

But he doesn’t hold to the Westminster confession, right? Like he’s explicit about that, right?

It’s as if this: Acts 5:41 [41] Then they left the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the name. It’s as if this passage, to rejoice in suffering at the hands of the magistrate, is viewed as a command that we should seek to create a state in which we can be punished on the regular so we can get lots of rejoicing opportunities.

Of and from are not the same things as over and in. Jesus Himself taught that the kingdom was here throughout the gospels

I usually follow Doug's arguments but he quotes the great commission which as he clearly indicates "teaching them to obey" not "legislate them to obey". There's a pretty big difference and he just glossed over it.

Do you think the statement "R Scott Clark is not reformed" is what Clark would hear for eternity if he were to go to hell?

Q: aren’t there Nation’s under the Christ’s reign (pre-mil friendly wording) Q2: Aren’t there Nations paying tribute to the new Jerusalem? ....so, those aren’t Christian? Isn’t the goal to bring others to Christ? Don’t they warrant representative government?How would believing in success, having faith in God for promised outcome be cosplay?
