I checked on line for the secret handshakes, nothing thats very secret from my eyes 😂. This Masonic Lodge with its Egyptian Hieroglyphics is one of my favourites. Glad you got to see The Sullivans as a nipper, we have managed to get the full series and have been watching it. It is amazing how we are seeing it with different eyes. Mind you I was only 14 when The Sullivans started and it was one of my favourite series. Sadly some of the actors are now deceased. The shop was originally my grandfathers and was Williamsons FourSquare store. The fence to the left is a new addition and was about 6 foot high when i was a child , with an extremely heavy wooden roller gate. Inside the yard was a stables for horses who pulled the original horse drawn delivery cart. On the right of the gate was a galvanised 500litre kerosene tank that people bought their heating kerosene from. The rear of the shop was rented to a Mr & Mrs Steiner. I spent many a childhood day weighing and bagging flour and sugar in the shop, A highlight was a delivery from Huttons Smallgoods truck as i was always given a slice of ham by the driver.

The governor wouldn't be too impressed with the drunken walks through caterbury my friends and I would do in our younger years hahaha. It's a really nice suburb! My dad grew up around Balwyn, so not too far away from all his haunts he used to point out to us. We love house-peeping, so this was a great video!

Another cool historic walk. It is interesting to see how the uses for the building changed over the years. Except for churches. Their architecture tends to lend itself to just being churches. It was interesting to learn about the Sullivan's and The Castle TV shows. They sound good but I had never heard of them. Interesting history of the mansion with its giant hedges near the end. Thanks for taking us along!

The Churches haven't changed much during the 1800 and 1900's but these days the modern Church are not as beautiful. The Castle was movie which was filmed in the 1980's and is a much loved Australian Film along Muriel's Wedding. Thanks Steve. I believe the Mansions became unfashionable and too expensive to maintain. Many were too big and also had wonderfull ballrooms to entertain the high societies.
