I have turned several vintage jewelry boxes into fabulous "antique" tea boxes. Your men's valet could be ideal for this purpose! Strip off that black velveteen stuff, give it a nice paint/antiquing finish, replace the hardware, line drawers with old handkerchiefs (only adhering center, so that you can fold over the pretty corners of it once you fill the drawers with lovely tea bags!). Replace the areas that once had that ugly black fabric with a romantic Victorian one, then the front area can hold several vintage/antique tea spoons(the short ones that were actually used for tea) and the top can hold a beautiful sugar and cream set that you can pick up at thrift, yard, or estate sales!

Another great video! I firmly believe in buying Christmas presents for myself! No one else thinks I need more dollhouse treasures or milk glass! I thrift/yard sale/clearance shop all year to make raffle theme baskets for my church's Christmas bazaar and a group I belong to; I usually do one with Santa, snowmen, gingerbread men, sometimes angels, gardening supplies (Goodwill at summer's end!), and often cats (books, a catnip mat and mouse, homemade cat toys, jewelry, figurines, etc.)! This year I did "the little red truck", too. The baskets get a scrub and sometimes a paint job or clear coat. I add my homemade sugar scrubs, sachets, potpourri, bath salts, crocheted dishcloths, as well as dish cloths, candles, candy dishes, spatulars, plates, ornaments, cooky cutters, stationery items, pens, etc. Of course, no two are ever alike. I buy the cellophane basket bags on clearance. This year I found 2 1930's Harker China custard cups in the pattern a friend collects! Score! I would love your homemade gifts. I swear by Howard's restora finish and the feed and wax!

Favorite thrift store gift hack - glassware!! A set of 2 wine glasses with a bottle of wine in a basket. A single scotch/rocks glass with a nice bottle of whiskey or drinking rum. A flat bottomed bowl or glass shallow service piece with rocks in the bottom from the dollar store and a few hyacinth bulbs rooted and sprouted. Just tie a ribbon and gift it!!

We all learnt floristry techniques, how to wire and tape Bridal bouquets too. So did Dad.. lol it was a wonderful way to grow up developing our artistic talents to use later in life. We learnt decoupage, and the use if mod podge to decorate soaps and boxes. I absolutely loved our childhood days working with mum and dad doing items for mums Florist shop. It save me so much money over the years. And the pride I have in the finished gift makes me feel amazing, when the people who recieve my gifts gush over them. My wonderful mother taught us this.

Sherry, This was awesome and short enough where I could watch before leaving for work. You gave me many ideas for things I already have on hand from thrift stores and I am lacking ideas for certain people. My Mom's child hood friend I will see over the weekend when I go to NJ . She loves tea and I have a pretty tea cup with a matching saucer. It has a beautiful rose pattern on it. I believe I will put a couple tea bags in it. I actually bought it from the Goodwill with a brand new little bear sitting in the cup and a pretty ribbon. I will save the bear in tissue paper and will reuse the bow for the Christmas gift. Planters are a great idea too. I had never thought I that but I actually have a couple on hand I will be shopping my stash. I haven't one girl friend to hang out with fir shopping or having coffee with. I have never had many female friends even at work but, my Mom's closest brother loves to plant and starts many seeds inside and as the plant grows inside then he replants outside so a nice planter I have large enough for his starter plants for early spring. I never pass up looking at baskets too when I do go to sales. I need to get to work. My department gets beautiful white small boxes in now and then with clean hardware in them and I save the boxes for odds and ends and yesterday I sent one I decorated for Christmas to my niece at college. The box was beautiful and it will be nice when she opens her mailbox and sees a pretty delivery. I always enjoy your channel. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Rebekah in VA

I have the same patterned carved wooden box! I “bought” it in the late fifties or early sixties in the gift shop in Howe Caverns in NY, when my grandparents took us on vacation. It’s sitting on my bookshelf as a raised platform for a vase. I hope you have a very happy holiday. Just an FYI: Edgar will probably never love being dressed up. I’ve had only two male dogs in my life, but both gave me that same look! The best I’d hope for is begrudging tolerance. 😕

Goodwill ships our stuff to other towns. I have several hot pads like thple green one in the video. I purchased them in the Midwest at a gift shop. They are called “end of the roll” by a company that makes large rugs. I bought 300 one time and our school sold them for a fund raiser. When you buy them the company 8:39 sends what they have made, so you don’t get to select colors, etc. I especially like the boxes you used to put gifts in. I have even thought about gifting my grown daughters a few of my things but they don’t seem to want them. They like modern things. Have a Merry Christmas and I look forward to your next videos.
