I like this! I like how you set it up with only a few inches of air bag lift it raises the chassis a lot!

I like it but you need to either angle in your top links, add a lateral control link or go to a three link to control side movement of the axle.

I love how you set that up with the 9in rear end. Id like to do something like that with my 79 Lincoln Continental as it has a 9in rear end as well.

I realize there were alot of design issues. As I stated, this was my first attempt as I have never built anything like this before. If you take a look at Cantilever Airbag Setup Part 2, you'll see the changes made. Still a work in progress......

So many engineering issues here, I don't know where to start... Main issues, free pivoting top spring hats, these will not stay level under load. And where is the axle side to side control (It may very well have had something, I just don't see it in the video)
@robertatwood25037 жыл бұрын
Patatron I'm with you on the side motion but you're going to have to defend yourself about the. Spring hats not staying and then I need to know what kind of engineering degree you have because I don't see you building anything on your Channel just saying dude

Very, very cool job- but where's your Trackbar?
@waynealan22268 жыл бұрын
Your fit and finish is just fantastic. One observation however, is as the suspension bags are filled the differential rotated the pinion down to such an angle so as to not be able to attach a drive shat. Have you corrected this problem?
@FortyGritSandpaper11 жыл бұрын
nice work.
@johnapaterson9 жыл бұрын
I'm sure you know this already but this won't work very well with the pivot so close to the bags, there will be a huge load on the bags like this and will suck unless its way up in the air. You do very nice work btw.
@stevepuchovan12 жыл бұрын
You still hooking up a panhard bar or watts link? What are you using for the canti arm bushings/fulcrum? Also, how much movement are you getting from the shocks? The oil inside them will flow to the top and the shock cannot do the proper job in the layed down position. I definitely like all of the square tubes and looks like your doing great on the chassis.

to be clearer the plate sits below the airbag and seperates it from the axle.

I am not sure about the ability to tolerate side loads, i don't see any diagonal braces. I am curious as to how this project went after all these years.

Well sort of. Yes the concept is the same as smith chassis. I liked the way they designed their setup, but this one is a bit different. Thanks for viewing.

To echo several prior comments, a trick setup, but as the links are essentially parallel, how are you accounting for lateral loading? Are you planning on an additional panhard or Watts link?

hi quick question,i have recently bought a van with air sus,the small plates at the rear which sit on the axle itself 1 is missing,is it necessary to re fit as it seems real sturdy and has a bolt and 12 ml nut thru it which then goes thri the axle,thanks
