Hi fellow viewers! As this is jyutping, 'morning' should be ziu1 zou2 (for that hard 'j' sound) not jiu1 jou2 (which is the 'y' sound)

Prefer 'cam jat' for ' yesterday'. Kam jat sounds too similar to 'gam jat' which is today 😄.

Amanda, these are brilliant. Many thanks. One small point 05:10 you say "last but not the least" grammatically correct but the NES would say "last but not least"

@@5minutecantonese Don't worry - The point Andrew makes is valid, but such a tiny, insignificant thing that nobody would pay the slightest attention to the extra "the". In fact, here's a popular English colloquialism you may not have heard, that's far more useful to learn - "Nit picking" 😉

Hi Amanda. Is there a specific reason why i can say gam1 ziu1 and ting1 ziu1 but cam4 jat6 ziu1? Or is this something we will have to remember?
@5minutecantonese

Unfortunately we have no specific rule for this, just have to remember 😅

"laih baai" is not a time adverb. It originally refers to the action of worship or religious service. Later people took it to mean the same as "sing keih", but it retains its grammatical function as an action, and we need to add a classifier for an action, i.e. hah go laih baai.

Can I ask which is the more common way to say 'week' in conversation? Thank you Amanda
@5minutecantonese
@5minutecantonese 3 жыл бұрын
To be honest, both of them are equally common. But in written form, we only use sing1 kei4. So, if you are beginner, I will recommend you use sing1 kei4. But you need to know the other one for listening as it's equally common.☺️

Amanda what is mat6 can you tell me what's mat6 je5 (if the meaning is what for both of them ,so plz tell us when to say mat6 and when to say mat6 Je5)
@5minutecantonese
@5minutecantonese 3 жыл бұрын
Basically, they are interchangable. imagine if you say mat6 je5 very fast, it becomes mat6 in the end, same case as hai6 m4 hai6 (is it?) and hai6 mai6, when you say hai6 m4 hai6 fast , it becomes hai6 mai6. It just depends on your mood.
