We live-streamed this performance. Just singing this beautifully is hard enough; to do it whilst masked is astounding. Magnificent performance of a true choral masterpiece.

This is horrific to see them abominate this song while wearing these muzzles, while playing a fake game of safety.

These amazing gentlemen delivered a marvellous performance in spite of the challenge of a mouth mask on their faces, and one still has to read the unfortunate comment of a Covid19-denier and antivaxer complain about the "horror of horrors" that is, to them/him/her, seeing singers on stage with a mouth mask. The audacity! Apparently, that view prevented that commenter from listening and appreciating the singers' impeccable diction, fantastic phrasing and coordination, those exquisite rubati, etc..., and all that with only their sight, hearing and body language as guidance, no conductor, no mouths to look at and follow... FANTASTIC JOB! I am amazed at what these singers achieved, even though it shouldn't surprise me that such wonder is possible in spite of a mask; I've worked as a singer of an opera choir in Europe for the past 3 years, and we've had to overcome the challenge of countless hours of rehearsals and performances while wearing a mask. That has definitely made it much harder for us to deliver the same quality of sound, but it hasn't felt humiliating at any point. On the contrary, we felt blessed once we were able to go back to the opera house, in spite of the exhausting safety protocols; self covid tests almost on a daily basis, masks, make-up artists working slower due to extra hygienic routines, etc, etc, etc... Why would someone get offended by others following safety protocols? It doesn't make any sense! I have friends and loved ones who are chose to not get vaxed, and yet they had no issue in coming to see my shows at the Opera, neither did they get offended by us performing with masks. Humanity's complexity!

Chanticleer always brings it home. Must have been difficult during the pandemic with the need to wear masks, but it still sounds great. One of my favorite sacred pieces, and I've sung it with my choir. It's pretty complicated.

My men's choir director in undergrad was so incredibly passionate about this piece; he passed that on to so many of us, but I know I'll never get tired of hearing this and it was *stunning*. Thank you

Myself, my partner and a very good friend were in the balcony for this. If you ever get the chance, see these 2 groups. The chills upon chills are worth it. Thank you Cantus and Chanticleer for bringing this kind of beauty to Minneapolis!

I love this performance so much. I didn't see Andy Berry (Chanticleer bass) on the stage so im assuming that unless a bass-baritone went down to the lower part, all of the low E2 and D2 that we hear is Chris Foss (Cantus bass). Chris has the most remarkable, cello-sounding bass voice I have ever heard and I'd kill to see these guys perform just to hear him. Edit: I completely forgot Samuel Green is a bass. Idk if he sang the bottom with Chris because of the split, but he's a great bass as well.

One of my all-time favorites from my college men’s chorus days, and you gentlemen nailed it! Beautiful! I’m embarrassed that my state of MN forced you to sing through those silly masks, which have been scientifically proven to be completely ineffective. I pray we quickly gain the courage in this state to follow the lead of most European countries who are dropping the mask mandates. Hearing your voices sing your beautiful repertoire freely, without being needlessly muted, is one of the biggest joys in life!

Performance: I cannot, nor will I, speak ill of this performance. Biebl's 'Ave Maria' is an anchor choral piece, among the most beautiful settings of this prayer/religious expression, especially arranged for mens' choir. It always brings tear to eye and sigh to breath. Optics: 20/20 hindsight being rather clear, I'm struck and saddened by every singer being masked. For the science of PPE "KNOWN" prior to and at that moment to have all be-masked is statement more of socio-political subjugation to a NarrativeTM and submission to pressure in service to a MessageTM. Presuming the PPE was covid/virus-related, not one 'mask' on that stage prevented the transmission of that virus particle. CoV19 particle = ~1.5 micron. Max mask performance (at initial donning, diminishing thereafter) = mitigation of particles =>3 micron. FACT: the masks were useless, only publicly performative to gird a socio-political objective, NOT personal/public health. It's been my experience persons in the theatrical arts, including choral performance, tend to align with an emotional aspect any measure of protective action, regardless of factual value/effectiveness, is worthwhile to engage in. I pray everyone who held (may still hold) this POV re-evaluates this aspect and rediscovers personal courage borne of their own individual experience (they may have experienced a bad cold, but didn't die... 'cuz they had a 99.987% chance of survival... better odds than failure of a condom amid intercourse) and rebukes the N95 (or lesser) PPE mask in the future re viral infection prevention.

What a horror of horrors!!!!! I'm so glad I was not there to witness this in person. I would have demanded my money back. Masked singers on stage. Are you so ruled by mammon that you felt you had to comply. How greater the message had you refused. I have loved your music for many years and was sad I couldn't come because I have made the free will choice not to be vaxed. Now I'm glad I wasn't there to witness your humiliation.
