Here's what happens when two of America's premiere male ensembles, Chanticleer and Cantus, walk into a bar... ---- linktr.ee/cantussings

The juxtaposition between bar setting and sacred text, the complete lack of pretension and rehearsal, the singing for the sheer joy of singing, the total abandon - not caring if they had an audience of not, the absence of professional ego and competition.... This is just gorgeous. I can only hope to fly this high someday. You guys nailed it. Thanks for the beauty you share (how in the world has this only been viewed 74K times???)

Both choirs know this piece frontwards, backwards and every which way. Thus, despite some slurring of the words, the men sing well.

As a good and proper Lutheran, is there any better place to sing to the Lord than a pub? Good drink, good friends and making joyful noises sounds perfect to me.

Love how the bass singer in the red shirt motions to the other basses to take the last note down an octave.

Absolutely delicious! This is what being a part of such an ensemble is all about. Not the profit from the venue, not the outfit or the color of the bow tie, but the joy of music. This is a wonderful post!

I sing bass in our choir and when you are singing this you will feel goose pimples on your cheeks, cant explain it. God loves us.

Walter Savage Landor said, "Music is God's gift to man, the only art of Heaven given to earth, the only art of earth we take to Heaven." The sound is Heavenly! It inspires Peace and Joy every time I listen to it....which is often. Thank you for sharing your gifts and lifting humanity to Heaven.

Indeed; per Baha'u'llah: "We, verily, have made music as a ladder for your souls, a means whereby they may be lifted up unto the realm on high..."

I’ve have listened to this so many times. Our Chorale sang the mixed voices arrangement so I got to sing it. It’s so incredibly beautiful…ethereal.

Grazie

This is hands down the best of all the version of this piece of music, I have ever heard. It is the informal setting that helped make this piece shine, as you guys just killed it. Yeah there was a stumble or two, but they are easily overlooked and is what really makes this so great. I keep coming back to this over and over, wanting more. Unreal. Bravo!

IN A BAR! Profane. As a senior nationally known and gay professional musician, violist, composer, choirmaster and organist, I will be burning your recordings that I once purchased and will never again support either of your two supposedly professional ensembles. Guys, singing a sacred piece of music in a bar is grossly out of place, inconsiderate, thoughtless and unprofessional; especially while holding drinks in your hands too!
