I agree having to navigate away from the page to participate in discussions is problematic, especially as no way is provided for returning to the original page. However, I've found setting up the hyperlink to the discussion board as an 'external link' mostly solved this problem. Since this type of hyperlink opens the discussion board in a new tab, simply closing the discussion tab immediately returns the student to the page they were on before (and I include an instruction to do this very thing in the page before students hit the hyperlink).

Is there a mobile app because a lot of learners now do stuff on their phones not PCs. and does it have gamification?

As a student who has used both Canvas and Blackboard, I miss Canvas so much. It empowers student success and makes it easy to see what I need to get done in the order I need to do it. Using Blackboard has been an absolute nightmare and actively discourages students by being unaccessible and hard to navigate. Canvas wins in my book, and I plan to actively campaign for my university to make the switch.

LOVE this! But sorry you are stuck in Blackboard... Let's hope your uni can find the budget and prioritise their technology stack and user experience!

thank you so much, very interesting! regarding the cost, I thought Canvas instructure was free? I've tried to have more info about Canvas Catalog to sell my course, but no answer

Canvas is just free for teachers to trial it. You cant actually run courses off the free version. Canvas Catalog is quite expensive and only really for institutions who want to sell B2C without enrolment lag time. If you are a small business or solopreneur you need to look at platforms!

The free version can be limiting, but a good start to learning the system. What is your school using?
