I had a similar experience the first time we visited. I guess in our old age we allow ourselves to slow down and actually "see" the beauty around us as well as hear the stories.

Thanks for the story. I have been to Canyon De Chelly many times. Most recently this spring. We have hiked to the bottom numerous times, an easy and enjoyable hike. We have met many Navajos who have lived in the canyon and on the rim for years, always a delight and filled with stories and some fine art and pottery. We hiked down and back with Darlene Sam, a local Navajo potter. We gave her a ride to her home. Her grandmother was born in the Hogan, where she lived. She actually brought a few pots to our campsite in the evening. We purchased one, quite beautiful and reasonably priced. It looks like you only did part of the rim drive. The entire rim drive is quite a treat. We live in northern, California at Lake Tahoe.

Yes, we didn't allocate enough time and since it was so cold/windy, thought it best to leave the hiking and tour for next time we visit.

@@FromShetoMe thanks, I expected that was the reason. We started a you tube channel to document our Travels. Mostly still shots and a few videos. Our channel is “Travels with Michael and Susan”. I know editing videos is a lot of work and cudos to you for that expertise. We have gone about 10,000 miles this year, mostly short trips but a long one up to North Cascades NP in Washington. Quite spectacular. I was there many years ago and it hadn’t changed much. Thanks for all you do. Always fun to watch.

My dad was a scout leader and would take the family to try out hikes before he took his scouts. So I've been hiking as long as I can remember. And then when I was 18, I did a 23 day Colorado Outward Bound Course and I was hooked. The Sierra Nevadas are my usual stomping grounds.

I am from New Mexico and I remember talking to a friend thirty-eight years ago who was a park ranger in Canyon de Chelly. The indians placed prayer sticks on the cliffs above the dwellings to prevent them from collapsing. He said they removed one for examination a week later the cliff colapsed!

Hi guys & happy Friday!😊 Great video. When you showed the petroglyph of the old man, I felt like I was looking at that picture where depending on your perception, you either see an old witch or a young lady with long flowing hair. I saw a flying saucer 🛸 on that petroglyph. Could not make out the old man. 🥴😀 Have a great weekend! That letter in the visitor center was too cute!

Omg , I was there in the 90’s. No permits to walk down then. At the bottom, there was a rope ladder to cross the river into the ruins. I didn’t have enough upper arm strength, so I took off shoes, socks and pants and wadded across in shirt and underwear. After, most of the females followed suit. This place was amazing. If you go, go to the bottom. It’s not that far.

Now you’re really in God’s Country! Northern AZ is in my blood and Soul. Nice sampler. As you might be able to tell from my name I’m also a Huge Route 66 fan. Recommend the movie you briefly showed poster of Poster of ‘Petrified Forest’ with Humphrey Bogart and a young Bette Davis. Highly recommend the guided tours in Canyon de Chelly. When we were there BRV in 2016 we slept in an authentic Navajo Hogan. We did the South Rim drive and especially like Spider Rock. Being a geologist I especially love Petrified Forest snd have been here several times over the years. Once in February it was 15°F and I was the only one who would get out of the van to look around. It is amazing how old the petrified wood is there- from the Triassic period more than 220 million years old! Hard to fathom. Look forward to your visit to Grand Canyon next week. I worked there for 3 seasons when I was in college and am long overdue for a visit.

Yes, my music choices can be eclectic. So much depends on my mood when I sit down to edit. Sometimes I get too moody so I tried to make it a bit more fun.

Sadly, there used to be much more petrified wood in the park. Easily accessed areas have been stripped of all but the biggest pieces. Granted that was in the 1960s, but it really shows what “Just taking one piece” really does hurt the park.
@FromShetoMe3 жыл бұрын
Interesting that you bring that up. The park has been doing some documentation using old images and comparing to new ones. Of course that really only documents the big stuff.
