Ah ! Hovenweep. You mesmerize me. Years ago I tented there in beautiful Hovenweep alone in June. I was the only camper there. The strongest winds I've ever experienced made it hard to put up my tent, but I succeeded. When the winds die down there is a quiet serene feeling that overwhelms you, especially when you see the full moon rising over Sleeping Ute to the east. This is a magical place. I've been back several times and will continue to do so. 🏜️🥰🌚

John doing a "Happy Dance" while you retrieve the camera... priceless. This was an awesome story told through video. Great, creative camera placements on this one. Beautiful color! Beautiful campgrounds. Especially loved your changing locations animations. We loved a lot about this episode, but keep in mind our opinions may reflect the fact that we just love you two west coast versions of east coast us. Until we meet in the middle... stay safe and happy.

Thank you so much for this beautiful video! I am exploring vicariously through you at the moment. A few years ago I visited Hovenweep and camped. It is a dark sky park. A camper had giant telescopes. I think he was a professor. You have convinced me to return to this Monument because you have shown me that there are many hikes and sites that I missed.

Nice shoulder season video. We went to Hovenweep in July 2016 BRV (before RV). What an awesome assortment of ruins and so few people even in July. Thoroughly enjoyed, even if the temp was pushing 100°. As I recall they get less than 25,000 visitors per year. From here we went to Zion where we couldn’t even find parking to catch the shuttle. Talk about culture shock! Safe travels

Thanks for the video and enjoyed it! Was on a similar path in 2019 and was also running from the cold WX so my fresh water didn’t freeze. When I climbed Wolf Pass east of Durango I made it before 6” of snow hit the pass.
@FromShetoMe3 жыл бұрын
That’s an amazing pass; I wouldn’t want to do it in snowy weather.
@timsmith76253 жыл бұрын
@@FromShetoMe I didn’t even pay attention to the WX as I left Mesa Verde and passed through Durango. Was a pretty day, sunny, and 50’s, then made to Alamosa and then it turned bad. Great Sand Dunes we’re cold, windy, and rainy so headed east then south again to Las Vegas NV and warmer temps.

I couldn't say any of your hike was boring. It looked amazing to me. We were planning on stopping at Hovenweep next spring, but I have a new grandbaby arriving in late April. Hello Debbie and John! Sara and I truly enjoy your videos, your travels, and thank you for sharing your trips and insights with us! Could you tell me the manufacturer of your bike rack that you use for your eBikes….Please! I need to get one, we like yours because it supports the weight and swings out of the way when needed. Thank you! Steve!
@FromShetoMe3 жыл бұрын
The swing hitch is by Wilco. The rack is by Hollywood. But if I were you, I'd check out 1Up: www.1up-usa.com/product-category/bike-racks/. We are seeing more and more of those and I like that they have an accessory that allows you to roll the bike up on a track.

Yes, I meant to put it on the screen. It's called Thousand Trails RV Park in Torrey. We stayed there last year as well. Great spot to take care of all the weekly jobs. And they have a nice store as well.

Just a question…..What do you do if you come upon a mountain lion on one of your hikes?
@FromShetoMe3 жыл бұрын
Mountain lions like to stalk so it isn't likely we would see them first. But the experts say you should fight back as hard as you can. A good reason to carry trekking poles and keep your head on a swivel. The real issue is if you are hiking with small children. Best to keep kids between adults. My brother was hiking in Montana with his kids once and a mountain lion was stalking them. He didn't know it until hikers behind him caught up and let him know. You can also carry bear spray if you are concerned.

It used to be much easier to get to Holly. Maybe they discontinued the other trails?
