I imagine the price mainly comes from the big ugly custom housing they made. Tooling for stuff like that isn't cheap at all. Even if they aren't the ones manufacturing it they still have to pay out massively to some other manufacturer for this kind of one-off product. So much development going into something so gimmicky. Playing these games on a PC will give you a vastly better experience.

The only thing that matters is if the subject of a video could potentially attract children. So anything that is vagely a toy, even if it's a 200$ collectible of an adult franchise could be considered a toy. And it's also not about youtube taking measures against creators. The opposite. KZbin from now on denies any responsibility for content. Creators who don't mark their videos as kid's content run the risk of being sued by the FTC in America.

7:50 Actually 720p would have probably been a better option for emulation, especially if you like those emulated scanlines. They often look off when displayed in 1080p. 720p is a 3x multiplier of 240p (the original resolution of many classic games). It also multiplies well with 4K too.

Ended up going down a rabbit hole after reading this comment, megadrive was 256i, snes and master system was 224i, n64 480i - atari seems to be 192i - i assume the NES was also interlaced so it would be 240i not p.

@@finthegeek Nothing outputs 240i. Every retro console, from the 2600 to the N64/PS1/Saturn, with the exception of the stock 3DO (and I think CDi), outputs 240p. The N64 and Saturn also output 480i in some instances (the PS1 likely does too). Consoles as recent as the PS2 and Wii are capable of 240p as well, though not many PS2 games ever used it (Ico is one, and some retro games offered it as well), and the Wii mainly used that mode for VC. Original Xbox was 480i-and-up only. Many of the Sega Ages 2500 games will play as 240p from the PS2, as well, and they look excellent via a component YPbPr component or RGB CRT. Wii Virtual Console games also look very good at 240p. This should make more sense if you think of a US NTSC TV signal being 240x480 and when you are occupying all of those lines you are essentially getting a progressive scan (p) picture. There is no room for interlacing.

My God, the amount of ignorance people still show regarding emulation is staggering. Alright, people, here's some education: - Emulators are in no way illegal. By definition, they emulate the software, they don't copy or steal it. It's the creators' own code, it doesn't harm the original manufacturers in any way, which is why it's perfectly legal; - Copying/distributing copyrighted emulators IS illegal, because that IS stealing code and therefore intellectual property, even if you own/created the original software it emulates. - I don't know why people insist that ROMs are illegal, but they're not. If they were, that'd be a bummer for the original manufacturers considering they're the ones who made them. Now, it's (sometimes) illegal to distribute them without official authorisation or to own them if you don't own a legit copy (but if you do, I'm 99% sure that owning copies as backup is not illegal either); Either way, it's unbelievably hypocritical to claim someone making software that imitates yours without taking anything from it is piracy, yet taking their original software and claiming it as yours isn't, especially if you intend to commercialise it when they didn't (which, BTW, would still be legal because, again, even if it's emulating something else, it IS an original work). You don't get to come crying about copyright over something that doesn't hurt you while you yourself pirate other people's work. Basically, it's the software equivalent of arguing that making one of those mockbuster movies is piracy even though it's entirely original material, yet a major studio bundling a mockbuster with their movie without the consent of the owners of the mockbuster's would be perfectly fine.

Isn't Final Burn Alpha licensed under the GPL? If so I'd think it's free to use in whatever you want as long as you include an attribution readable somewhere with it. The Playstation Mini used an open source PS1 emulator with the same license, so it's legal. Though I don't know anything about the drama with FB Alpha & Neo.

I still prefer to have the fake scan lines on than not, i can get away with not using them on my slightly blurry 32 inch Panasonic LCD, but through my 50 inch LED, any 2D game with pixel made graphics looks a blocky mess without fake scan lines and spoils the experience for me.

I always called those black, vented boxes with the cable coming out of the top a "wall wart" because they were massive and ugly. That, or a "trip hazard" since the flex came out of the top and always stuck out at a funny angle, unlike safe, standardised UK plugs that had the cable coming out of the bottom.

I am utterly disappointed in you Ashens! Final Fight is THE best game ever, EVER! Made. I spent a lot of my childhood playing it on the arcade machines, then played it through on most of the home platforms, and I've been emulating it over the years too. I once told my parents I was at a friend's house, to then catch a bus to West Bromwich town to go to 16-Bit World (old shop in the town way back when) to play it. Needless to say my mom wasn't pleased when she discovered I wasn't at a friend's house and was close to calling the police to report me missing! That is how dedicated I was go Final Fight! I was 12 at the time. It's still close to my heart now as a jaded 38 year old.

@@MysteriumArcanum That's exactly the tabletop franchise Darkstalkers (sort of) tied into. Vampire: The Masquerade was part of the overarching World of Darkness series of games, with vampires (of course), werewolves, ghosts, wizards, and, um, fairies. Plus mummies, magic Gypsies, a whole slew of different were-beasts, cyborgs, otherworldly monsters...it all got a bit out of control. There were World of Darkness video games (Vampire: Bloodlines is probably the most well-remembered) and a truly dreadful television soap opera (Vampire: The Kindred) that lasted about 13 episodes before being axed. In a way, Darkstalkers is World of Darkness: The Anime Fighting Edition.
