nice video, you are absolutely right, these sundews grow like weed when you dont take care ;) The tiny little seeds spread everywhere,you will have them in every other pot nearby (also the D.spatulata, they spread like the capensis,too). Also it is interesting that they regenerate very good. I had several plants that died above ground but came back in little plants weeks after. So never throw away "dead" sundews very fast.

My plant is just scrappy and I can’t get it to grow. I ordered back in October, planted in the supplied media. It was doing just OK for a while but took a turn for the worse. I didn’t know about the distilled water and have since been only using distilled. It’s possible that I let it dry out, as it was living downstairs under the grow light with all of my other plants. The tiny thing has been hanging on, but just wont seem to thrive. Any advice on saving this thing??

my Cape sundew is outside in full sun all day long and since I have owned it, it has not made the sticky substance, does this Drodsera only make the dew when it needs nutrients or is my sundew not doing good? it also sits in a 6" saucer with distilled water at all times.

The maxsea will harm the plant if you where to fertilize them every day but if you only fertilize them once a month than a little maxsea on the soil is no big deal . But however it can encourage algae and moss to grow on the soil. I use long fiber moss on the bottom.
@CarnivorousPlantsHub
@CarnivorousPlantsHub 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, thank you. I should have expanded more on this in the video looking back. Please, if you want to use maxsea do your research. It requires a special dilution and you have to apply it a certain way. Never use fertilizer with carnivorous plants unless you did your research, it's tricky!

Got mine 2 weeks ago. I think i saw a little ooze but not much dew. Wanted to move to a bigger pot to help it not dry out. but they warned against fertalizer and i dont have much extra moss left. So dirt and sand that doesnt add fertalizer or chemicals should be fine?

I live in Utah and I just ordered a Drosera Filiformis Tracyi. Dry climate. Any tips for keeping it alive?
@CarnivorousPlantsHub
@CarnivorousPlantsHub 2 жыл бұрын
I would probably keep a plastic bag over them for the first couple days to help with humidity. Slowly start taking the bag off for a few hours every day. This will allow the plant to slowly acclimate to a dryer climate. It should acclimate fine but sometimes if we shock the plant it can be too much all at once. A slower acclimation often has better results.

Cool video! I bought some peat to replant some carnivorous plants but after watering the peat, I noticed that the water that was coming off it had a pretty high PPM (over 300) on my TDS meter. I know that carnivorous plants should have under 50 ppm in their water so I'm a little concerned. Any advice?
@CarnivorousPlantsHub

Flush that baby out. I'd keep flushing it until that water is under 50. 300 ppm is a slow death for your plant.

@CarnivorousPlantsHub
@CarnivorousPlantsHub 2 жыл бұрын
Did you order from a reputable nursery? Did you get them bare root or already potted? If potted and the nursery is reputable, I'd just leave them in their pots until they need to be repotted. No need to repot them right away. Wait until they outgrow their current pot then repot the VFT toward the end of it's dormant period. I'd also repot the sundew during the colder season when they grow a little less.

Like an idiot I got worried about not having any rainwater for a while and watered my sundew with tap water, but to make things worse I drizzled it from above. So now it has curled up black leaves in lots of places. I’ve realised what I’ve done wrong, but now how do I proceed? Leave the black leaves or remove them?
@CarnivorousPlantsHub
@CarnivorousPlantsHub 8 ай бұрын
Remove the black leaved and flush the plant the best you can with some rain or distilled water. Let the water flow out of the bottom of the pot. Do this a few times, it helps flush out the dissolved solids left by thr tap water.

what other sundews do you recommend can be put together with capensis? I got red capensis, binata, latifolia, natalensis and neocaledonica x oblanceolata, though they dont all like the same conditions. Like capensis looks all healthy but the others not so much, when sharing same conditions. Also I'd add to your vid, that capensis is from my experience kinda the only sundew that can sit indoors on a (dry) windowsill and grow healthy, all the others need an additionnal light

I get a ton of large flies in my home in the summer months - is there a carnivorous plant that would be good at helping with this?
@CarnivorousPlantsHub
@CarnivorousPlantsHub Жыл бұрын
If you had a full sized mature capensis, it might capture some large house flies in bulk. Flytraps are also great, but harder to raise indoors without extra lights. Not great kitchen plants. Sarracenia also do an awesome job catching larger flies (probably the best carnivorous plant for large flies) but also require full sun outside. If given an extra grow light in the kitchen, a Sarracenia might help you catch a lot of flies.
