As always, love your vids. My wife and I and dog along with two friends and dog, all of us in our mid 70s (not the dogs), did the trip from Cairns to Cape York in July. Our friends have done it many times before but it was our first time. We have an Everest bi-turbo towing a camper and our friends a Pajero towing a camper so the Old Tele track just wasn't on the agenda. We also went up via Battlecamp and copped a shower making it a very interesting leg in the red mud. The worst breakage we had was the dish drainer on our camper, a true first-world problem! I used a filter on the snorkel and fuel economy hardly budged but the red crap never made it near the engine intake. My legally blind wife made it all the way to the very top, carefully working her way over all those rocks, amazing. It was the very best Aussie travel experience I've ever had, and I can't wait to do it again! In the meantime, that red dust keeps on appearing inside the car and even outside where I have water-blasted and hosed and sponged, just waiting for the wet season up here to maybe do a better job than I have. By the way, we take a sat phone with us on all our trips plus HF amateur radio. We were amazed at the number of idiots driving at high speed with no lights on and unbelievably no signs of UHF CB antennas, they didn't give a stuff about others by throwing up rocks and massive dust. I too tried to drive in clean air and slowed down when I saw vehicles coming towards us as I couldn't tell if there was some cretin without lights on right up their backside. Looking forward to reliving our trip through your next vids.

A bit of a tip that may help with dust ingress, is to turn the snorkle head 180 degrees to face the rear. Dust will by pass the intake, as it cant turn around and enter the airfilter.
@SarahandKeelanTravels2 жыл бұрын
Good Point that one cheers
@4x4touring472 жыл бұрын
Good point mate 👍 it will definitely minimise the dust ingress

That's exactly right. Ram air into a snorkel has zero impact on power and efficiency. Just increases foreign objects ingress into the engine.

As a member if an Emergency Service I have stood under the Casino Rescue Helicopter & seen tree trunks the size of a man's thigh flailing like grass leaves in a wind, such is the downforce of the Helicopter's blades. That someone was able to take charge & reduce the chance of crush injury syndrome becoming a factor was very beneficial to the casualty. Incidents like this show the benefit of doing a first aid course for remote areas to members of any group. Don't forget that Ambos work on a "Golden hour" for treatment of accident casualties but, in this case, 2.5 hours exceeds that rule. The rule is: 20 minutes for first aid, 20 minutes for stabilisation of the casualty & 20 minutes for transport to a Hospital results in a (potentially) good outcome for the casualty. I am hopeful that the injured man has a good chance of survival with minimal, long term, injury recovery.

Great videos Keelan & Sarah, I know there is a lot of input for good vids like yours. Good work! I have a Donaldson cyclonic pre-cleaner air filter on my snorkel in place of the air-ram. The amount of large and fine particles it traps is amazing. It is much better than having a foam sheet below the factory filter element as your mate has. It is great as you can see how much rubbish is in it without pulling anything apart. Cheers Keep the vids coming!

So glad you guys had a great trip❤ I just got back from spending 3 months up there, what a wonderful place except for the idiots who Are not prepared, & don’t allow enough time,so they rush & are downright dangerous. Being closed for 2 years has definitely encouraged the Joe Average to tow the biggest caravan possible with no idea of tyre pressures & cause the corrigations, but are the first to complain about the state of the PDR. Every person I saw get hurt & did damage to either themselves or someone else could all have been avoided. EXAMPLE- who the hell has a vehicle that starts in gear! Or does not warn a man who gets between a starting vehicle 🤷♂️ I met a group of guys who were doing the cape in 12 days & were from Melbourne, these guys sat on 120klms & had no regards for safety. Some people lose their mind up there. Anyhow travel safe, live life & take your time & enjoy your holiday.

G'day guys. Did you have confidence on the two-way when passing in the dust? All the best S & K.
@SarahandKeelanTravels2 жыл бұрын
Hey mate!! Yeah we had 6 in our convoy infront of us, had contract with the front vehicle 3kms up the road so really confident to overtake with really good coms, including the truck driver!! How good are two ways!! Cheers malc
@Malc6642 жыл бұрын
@@SarahandKeelanTravels That is great to hear. Two ways are a lifesaver alright. I got lost walking in the bush once. The Goldfields. It all looks the same you know. But I had a walkie and in contact wth the Mrs. Also I had a gps point marker of our camp on my phone (offline, no phone service) which I had to finally use as I couldn't even hear the cars horn when the Mrs was blasting it.
@SarahandKeelanTravels2 жыл бұрын
Bloody hell what a story mate!! Could of been much much worse!! We saw lots of idiots overtaking in dust the incorrect way of just pulling out! Most had no ariels so probably no two ways..

@@SarahandKeelanTravels Oh boy, it's not worth the risk hey. That accident you were close to is a wake up call to safety first. I reckon you'll agree . Thanks for the replies to all the comments. Curious, is it both of you that reply? Cause I don't want to, but I assume it's Keelan. So i say thanks guys for the uploads and replies. 🤙🏼🤙🏼

Great trip Guys loving your trip. How good were those Tomahawk steaks. Hope the gentleman who got hurt is ok. Crazy that there is so many people trying to get on the track. We went in 2019. There were three cars we helped get on the track and us. Then we left them and went alone. This was our trip pretty rough only used our phone kzbin.info/www/bejne/imXQfZ2EapiIj7s Looking forward to more of your episodes ❤

@@SarahandKeelanTravels Turn it to about same angle as semi exhausts . If you turn it all way round you will get swirl effect and suck more dust. About same angle as the metal snorkels i find works well
