When driving Bribie, especially going to Poverty, run 12-18 pound pressure. There's something about the silicon content of the sand is different to most places in SEQ that makes the sand so powdery and loose. Most people avoid the inland track and go up the beach then cross at the top of the island.

for sure! 100% agree with this now we have seen the track!

Yeah Mate, been there done that. Had to eventually drop down to 15 psi in the 4wd & 20 in the Van to get through. 3 Tonne Van & 4cyl TD Pathfinder. Bloody soft sand, but Poverty Creek was worth it, lovely camp-site. Just nailed it when leaving, no issues!

Used to go to Bribie a lot many years ago. Great spot. I remember getting stuck on the beaches up Cape York when working in Weipa. If we got stuck, we'd roll the spare wheel out the length of the winch cable, tie it to the spare wheel, bury it in the sand & winch away. A very slow process, but it worked. Love how Leroy stepped up to the plate there. Some very skillful driving, too, of course. Good on ya team. 😊

30psi on the van is high, bad starting point... 20psi would have been better all round but given you're towing, down to 13 for the 200 and 15 on the van. At least it was your first call after stalling out. A good recovery. Good to see a young fella be smart and know how to restart on soft sand. Bllody hell, check the size of that crab, MONSTA.

@@SarahandKeelanTravels Yeah its a little hard to guess but if a track says no vans or campers only near a beach or on islands, its a 98% chance it's because of soft sand. I'm surprised that crab let you get away 🤣

Driving in sand can be a challenge and even more towing. Here in Central Oregon we do have some soft soils, and clay in the playa's. For the most part we have rocks. Many of the trails are like driving down a dry creek bed. Be safe and keep up the adventures.

Also look for holes or little cave's under rocks and get yourself a decent length of solid wire and make a hook which you slide under the crab then twist and drag it out. only take the Bucks with the pointy triangle shape underneath not the wider rounder shape!

Great videos my first thought when I saw that sand with that van was I wonder if you guys know how hot your transmission is getting ? I assume you have a decent fan forced cooler setup and temp gauge you might also be amazed how hot your rear diff oil can get more so 2wd I have fitted diff coolers to tow cars in the past keep up the good work JA
@ianweal3081
@ianweal3081 Жыл бұрын
Knew rear diffs got hot, retracted my hand very quickly one time in Qld on hwy checking diff temps, the diff centre was bloody hot, but it was an especially hot day plus the heat of bitumen adding to the issue. I have never heard of diff coolers for the oil. How'd you circulate the oil via the cooler and back? Where would the cooler be placed not to be affected by the accumulated heat from the bitumen ambient air temp? Just curious, I won't be bothered to go down the line off adding them. You've got me thinking though, wonder how trucks get on, they'd accumulate some heat, ha! I know they have temp gauges to monitor them, how do they get on? You have got me curious now. 😅

Bit less air? 18 ish at beginning maybe. Good point about van width and stopping early and not bogging down.
