It was kinda like the UTB18. Everyone was confused and put off by the initial thought of it. But as soon as you get some time with one, the opinion changes pretty quick.
@exlewisrc3674 Жыл бұрын
The main reason I saw was bc of the lack of upgraded parts it’s the same “stock” parts that crap out under very limited stress quickly(ie same servo, transmission, etc). Also the lack of mobility with the electronic layout and the lack of LCG. I don’t personally have one and I personally wouldn’t mind owning one the way it sits But allot of the Axial followers I think were expecting a bit more and they were let down. Im currently building a spare parts 4ws truck right now and I’m only in it $24. IMO I would love to try one before I say anything but everyone’s opinion will be different upon preference

The mods made a big difference. I picked one up yesterday from my local. I haven't driven it yet, this will be my first 4ws rig. I did pull a few parts out of my bin to put on after the first run. I think the brass skid plate really help eliminate the bounce from the shocks, nice!!!🤘🤘🤘 For myself, the servos are the last thing I swap out. I run them till they break. On 7 of my 12 24's they still have the stockers. Yea there are stronger ones but the stock one work.

@shawnfunk2895 Жыл бұрын
thanks for breaking ground with some of these mods on this new platform. Your video alleviated my concerns about installing a bigger motor. I am just starting the mod journey for the AX myself, but am having trouble finding servo mounts. It looks like the AX servo mount spreads the upper links a little further apart than that on the SCX. Using an older SCX mount seems like it would mount the links a little closer together, effectively shortening the distance from chassis to axle for the upper links and adding a slight amount of caster. It doubt it would cause any driveshaft binding, but you might want to look at that if you think binding might be reducing the throttle "smoothness"
@CapeCrawlers Жыл бұрын
Omg you’re a genius. I’ve still been chasing that binding issue and I wonder if that’s exactly what the root cause is. The aftermarket servo tray does pinch the links closer together by ~2mm I bet. The binding only happens when I turn the wheel, and to one side primarily. But perhaps that could still be the issue?

Awesome video man, it is now behaving exactly like I expected it would. I think as you stated there are much more budget friendly options to achieve the same end result. I question the need for that carbon fiber chassis but it sure does look cool =). I also wonder if the 66t Injora would have smoothed the throttle response out a bit, seems a little jumpy. It might just be the limitation of that ESC because it feels jumpy out of the box as well. The 66t while not quite as torquey, is smoother. Great build I am waiting on my parts to come in to start my build as well. Did you use the standard servo trays that come with the Injora kit, even thought they do not have the slots for the links? great content bud!
@CapeCrawlers Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I did use the standard servo tray and the links threaded in perfectly on the outside of the tray, just like the four link conversion on the SCX24. I think you're right about the 66t. I may swap this out for my LGRP Reaper motor as that is super smooth. I also feel like something is binding and contributing to the jumpiness, but I can't pinpoint it. Let the tinkering begin!

Out of the box the ax is so much more capable than an scx or fcx but when you fully upgrade an scx or fcx or ax they end up the same. Tiny comp chassis' already exist. We been running independent 4ws forever. Long travel shocks have been out for ages. Also remember the "new" ax stills runs a complete scx drive train. Unfortunately it also still runs those horrible electronics. If your new to the 24 game go for it grab an ax. But for me and many others its nothing new and current comp rigs will destroy it. This is why many say "we wanted more" and if not more give us something different. 7.5/10👍🤠👍

Can't argue with your logic. I'm finding this with the TRX4M. The more you modify it, the more it becomes more of the same. That's not a bad thing, as the process is always fun, but all roads seem to lead to the same destination with these.

I will give you my subjective opinion and that is that building a rig from a stock SCX24 is my preferred approach. Only because I (personally) love the process of incrementally upgrading a vehicle. I find it so gratifying and rewarding to see the progress as you modify. The Cayman, although it is a performance bargain, kinda takes the fun out of the build in my opinion.

@CapeCrawlers Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! The torque twist is a tough nut to crack in this chassis. Generally stiffer springs in the shocks will mitigate twist, but on this rig it will also raise your chassis, which we don't want. You almost have to pick the lesser of two evils.

Love the insights and sharing! I'm thinking of getting the injuro motor. just one question though, does changing the motor from stock to the injuro help with the modulation? From what I can observe from your video, it does? Thanks in advance!
@CapeCrawlers Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! It does help with the modulation. Primarily because the motor just has more power and is spread out better. Check out Mofo RC's channel where he put the little torque beast in the AX24. The smoothness is crazy!

Hey Adam got another question how did u center rear servo? Put emax on mine and can get it center ..kinda permanent crab walking
@CapeCrawlers Жыл бұрын
There's no easy way to do it unfortunately. Ive heard of folks using adjustable links, or messing with the horn position and linkage mount on the horn itself. Also plugging the rear servo into the CH1, trimming it, then switching channels again. For me, none of that worked. I ended up swapping out electronics and using a Flysky tx/rx combo which allowed me to trim the rear servo independently. If that isnt an option for you, the adjustable steering links seem to be the most popular method.

Thank you for always sharing your thoughts and builds. It's so helpful. I have a question about the 18g Treal steering knuckles. I installed a set on my Axial SCX24 Bronco and set them loose as you suggested (I think in another video), but I get a lot of slop in the steering. Are they actually supposed to be tightened and then there is just friction between the screw sleeve and steering knuckle? I hope that makes sense...
@CapeCrawlers Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Have you upgraded your steering linkage? Just wondering what exactly is causing the slop. I usually tighten the knuckles then back them out until they are nice and smooth with no friction.
@fluffybuht Жыл бұрын
@@CapeCrawlers I ended up upgrading the entire thing due to a broken bolt into the plastic steering linkage. So I have an upgraded servo, with an aluminum horn, brass steering linkage and then the brass knuckles. When I back up the screws a little bit on the knuckles, it also gives them an up/down and side/side wiggle off of the axel housing. I believe that's the source of the slop as everything else feels tight.

Great video as always! :) Is there somewhere I can learn more about the four link servo tray conversion? Thank you in advance!
@CapeCrawlers Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I ended up removing the servo trays and going back to stock. But the aluminum four link tray worked well. I was chasing a binding issue which turned out to be the ESC and that's why I swapped the trays. Anyway, you thread a screw through the linkage into the outside of the servo tray, so one link on each outer part of the traditional linkage mount if that makes sense. I don't have a video specifically on it but I can make a short if the above isnt clear.
@bs119 Жыл бұрын
@@CapeCrawlersthanks for the detailed and prompt response! I totally get what you meant!! Just to clarify, does that mean the stock servo trays can accommodate the emax servos? Thank you again! :)))

If you swap out your stock motor and esc/receiver combo for a furitek venom setup with a separate receiver and esc will you still have 4ws?
@Ghosty-RC Жыл бұрын
Hi Did i get that right? You don't use non vented beadlock tyres without inserts because they don't handle that good when it comes to sidways performance? You should make a Video an Lipos, how to charge, how to store them and what kind of charger you use.
@CapeCrawlers Жыл бұрын
I feel like you can use a tall tire with no insert so long as the tire/wheel is not vented. The air pressure inside the tire gives it some strength. But I am not a fan of running big tires with no inserts on a vented set up because that's when you get the super wobbly sidewalls.

I'm making a indoor crawler course and I was wondering what kind of bridge I should make! Can you please help me out m8?
@CapeCrawlers Жыл бұрын
A couple of ideas: I made a log bridge with some rope and tree branches. It's a lot of fun and looks great on the course; very organic. Also, my local hobby shop made a bridge out of two parallel pieces of rope. It's SUPER challenging and really easy to set up!

Great video. I really like these these rigs, but why are they so noisy? That whining sound would ruin me. My FCX24 is silent by comparison.
@CapeCrawlers Жыл бұрын
The esc is pretty crappy. It’s noisy and the slow crawl is lacking. It can definitely benefit from an upgraded set of electronics!
@paultamasi6519 Жыл бұрын
Hi Adam, run a comparison with the ax24 and your already built 4 wheel steer conversion that you did. I believe it was a deadbolt?? Both the modded versions. Just to see if the chassis is the advantage or if it's actually the 4 wheel steer??
