This is one of my favorite acting roles of Jackie. By far not his most impressive martial arts showcases but his range of almost an R rated action star with some spicy character traits made him adorable and real. This was a gem of a performance

As someone born in the 80s and having friends of all different backgrounds and races I totally understand when you talk about being able to have this type of humor without having to be so conscious of every joke and word spoken. Thank god for the original chapelle show, when we could all make fun of each other.

3 parts of this movie that really make me crack up laughing are: 1. When Carter starts dancing like Michael Jackson in the middle of the street after blowing the car up 2. When Lee and Carter are bonding and practicing disarming techniques while Edwin Starr's song "War" plays in the background 3. When Carter says "I know that ain't the bomb. Get that bomb away from me." Towards the end And trust me, the blooper reels for the remaining two movies are just as funny when it comes to the slip-ups with the dialogue. Also, RIP to Elizabeth Peña and Tom Wilkinson

25 years ago, ain't it amazing? After Lethal Weapon finished it's franchise, Rush Hour was the next Buddy Cop phenom around the corner. Jackie Chan, the world's biggest action star looking to make a bigger impact on American audiences. Chris Tucker of ATL, Georgia was among the young 'up and comers' in the comedy game with stand-up and a few films. This was not Jackie's first film with an American studio. He made 4 other films (1980-1985) and although with moderate success, he wasn't quite a star to American audiences yet. But by the 1990s, his films were on video and cable while certain notable films were being re-released into Americans theatres: Rumble In The Bronx, Supercop, Jackie Chan's First Strike, Operation Condor, Mr. Nice Guy and The legend of Drunken Master. dir. Brett Ratner signed on after working with Tucker in Money Talks (1997). Tucker was not the original choice for James Carter. Wesley Snipes was the closest to being involved and ended up making BLADE (same summer). Chan & Tucker turned out the action comedy of the year. With great chemistry, good sequences and laughs. The Def Jam soundtrack was one of the biggest of the decade and legendary composer Lalo Schifrin with another great score. RIP to Elizabeth Peña (Detective Tania Johnson), Philip Baker Hall (Captain Bill Diel), Chris Penn (Clyde), Judo Gene LeBell (Taxi Driver) and Tom Wilkinson (Juntao). Please watch the sequels and don't miss all those outtakes.

Loved the reaction. It's refreshing to see an American who isn't so hung up about humour of yesteryear and is still able to enjoy things without overthinking it. I've seen others who feel somewhat unsettled by some of the jokes in this whole trilogy which is really unfortunate to see. I also miss the 90s so much. I'm always feeling sentimental about it these days. These old school movies genuinely do make us realise how much we've lost in the West but I try to remain optimistic despite the way things are going. It would be incredible to see a Rush Hour 4 but I know it won't live up to most people's expectations due to the political climate we're in but I'd like to be proven wrong.

They might actually make Rush Hour 4, according to IMDB. Also, Shanghai Noon (2000) and Shanghai Knights (2003), are two good-chemistry comedy movies. 👍

Bro, I have been hooked on your channel for a while. Your reaction and observations are spot on ... funny and insightful. BUT, that copyright garbage who have plastered across half the screen make it unbelievably difficult to watch and focus. Other reaction channels I watch don't have it. What gives??? Please explain ...

It’s funny seeing you talk about how much chemistry they have cause they really didn’t in this movie Lmao. Jackie hated working with Chris because at the time (and still now to a lesser extent) Jackie’s English skills were quite poor and he couldn’t keep up with Chris’s ad-libbing and fast talking “urban” accent. They develop chemistry in the later movies but they don’t really have it here, they’re just professionals and fantastic actors.
