Absolutely true, as far as it goes...... As Limits to Growth : MIT shows the Industrial Civilization capitalist monopoly game has an end. This is calculated by actual real world goods and services, population, resources etc, to be OVER around 2040 plus or minus five years. WE must go beyond Domination by Force, to Democracy by Consensus : that is true Direct Democracy: voting of the the people by App : not representative democracy. ( which represents the capitalist ruling class ) . Reciprocal Trade in a Universal Economy with Universal Income, and no longer competition based crime which is unsustainable. Collapse is most likely before this occurs by Climate catastrophes and war. Hopefully we won't go extinct.

that Yanis was attacked by fascists is unbelievable. Wish I'd been there with a few lads and some steel bats

yanis was attacked in an anarchists' and radical leftists' area. He assumes they were fascists who were put there, cause of their looks, but i guess it was just some too reactive, wannabe, self-called "anarchists".

How do you reform something that doesn’t want to be reformed which has hijacked the democratic system as the only lever that exists to reform it in the first place. Democracy is more important than capitalism, democracy is more important than anything else. The goal is to try and meet your economic needs in a way that doesn’t inevitably necessitate the hijacking of democracy.

I really appreciated his commentary eight years ago. Now, would the word bloviate be relevant here? Did Cave/men/he/she/they understand capital when exchanging assets (meat, fur, space...)?

Yanis is a brilliant man. I however beg to disagree on this separation between state and capital when capitalism emerged. State was always necessarily entangled in the transformations that ushered in capitalism.... Both in dispossession and Imperialism.
@nicolasm400 Жыл бұрын
capitalists from the beginning knew that capturing the state is key to ensure their rule. Not only does it add political power to their industrial power, but it prevents the emergence of a ''populist state'' that risks undermining the capitalist rule

Not to forget : Electronic Civilization is possible ( as all former civilizations : Industrial and Agricultural ) by the new technologies : of Renewables replacing all fossil fuels , AI, Robotics, Eco architecture , Sex positive society, Direct Democracy , Electronic Exchange ( resource based economy : see j. Fresco the venus project etc ) , and world wide Unity IE United Nations ending the totalitarian states of China, Russia, etc.

Amazon is a market place; it isn't a soviet system. They provide a platform for many companies to sell their products. Amazon does not dictate what products are made, what price those products must be sold at, etc. Amazon might have too much power as a market system, but Amazon does not represent centralized planning.
@burnzz69 Жыл бұрын
Amazon is a centralized entity that controls the space its platform offers to sell goods. its centralized power gives it an advantage to a fragmented competition. this power and these advantages are used to further its agenda to profit and reinvest in what it sees fit. what else was the soviet system, or any other ideologic system for that matter?
@burnzz69 Жыл бұрын
it usurps the power of co-creation by the many, basically
@paulsnow Жыл бұрын
@@burnzz69 The soviet system had a state that literally owned the means of production. Amazon doesn't. I agree Amazon has undue power over those that produce goods, just like Walmart exerts significant power over producers. But neither actually owns the means of production. (Walmart and Amazon compete with each other.)
@alexpazaitis Жыл бұрын
@@paulsnow Yeah, Amazon may not be a state, but it has shown it can very much leverage state power at will.
@paulsnow Жыл бұрын
@@alexpazaitis Really? How? Amazon doesn't control the businesses that sell on their platform.

I don't know why people still listen to this guy. He almost destroyed Greece's economy as Minister of Economics, by trying to move to Drachme and ditch Euro. Fortunately he was sacked at the last moment and the worst was avoided. Greece really was in the brink of collapse because of his politics.

yea, ask the average greek worker and pensionist how they were saved by its government bowing to the centralized powers of the euro-financial markets.

@unske What are you talking about? Varoufakis resigned, Tsipras screwed the country by bowing to the Troika even though he was elected because he said he wouldn't.
@superstock9261 Жыл бұрын
He bowed out because the imf insisted and the political party leader of the time accepted the imf loans and conditions which then destroyed and gutted Greece. He wanted to go back to the drakma to exit the euro zone as they were a second class nation within the euro zone.
