[S07 E07] World Transformations Have Hit Our Homes Hard
The time for colonialism and settler colonialism is over! Whether it's in South Africa, America, Europe or Israel. The world is transforming. With the rise of China and the other BRICS nations, the United States have less power. The remaining US wealth is racing towards the billionaire class leaving the rest of us behind. What can we do about it?
Capitalism Hits Home with Dr. Harriet Fraad (CHH) is a @democracyatwrk production. The show addresses the intersection of capitalism, class, and personal lives, and explores what is happening in the economic realm and its impact on our individual and social psychology. Next video: how would a socialistic economy work? And what would the viability / possibility of the following becoming law (i.e. a workable form of socialism): Implement the following reforms and use inspiration from the kibbutz and technocratic ideas along with replacing all taxation with a 3% tax on all economic transactions: - Contract all businesses in the cultivation, manufacturing, processing, distribution, and selling - Costs of the business are paid for via energy credits optionally exchanged for cash - Pay for the energy credits by using the revenue from the economic transaction tax - No profit for businesses except that the only profit shall be from donations distributed to the workers as the only form of pay except for the energy credits - The business manager shall have the same salary (as a business cost) equal to the average annual income of their workers - Community boards (elected by the workers, one board member for each industry) shall assist in managing the businesses in their city or town and shall appoint business managers for each business - Give out energy credits to people for a basic standard of living whereas the pay for the jobs shall be minimal and in addition to the energy credits (job pay shall be from the donations) - Automate as many jobs as possible - Energy credits may be exchanged for cash by businesses - The community boards shall appoint a person to be a state legislative member - The state legislature shall appoint the Governor - The Governor which then shall be in the US legislature (the US legislature shall be the House of Governors but eliminate the House of representatives) - The US legislature shall appoint a president for life (the president may appoint a prime minister for various things) 🙏🙏 Thank you I hope democracy at work sees this comment and have you a good day!

The vast majority? Is that the tale you believe to sleep at night? A lot of the Native people did die from disease, but force of arms killed many times that. In fact, disease was known and is accounted for as a tactic in some accounts. I wouldn't want you to look into historic documents and government actions to figure out if "America" is/was genocidal or not. Are you getting your history from Prager U? Jeez.

No one ever mentions that capitalism gives people PTSD. Erich Fromm eluded to capitalism/ mental illness authoritarianism and or capitalism. One must groom and prime their children to participate and conform to a capitalist economy. Especially middle class progressives who once rebelled participate in commodifying their children by sending them to universities and competing for slots in those schools. There’s little to no room for self expression, self exploration, time to relax and thrive. Why doesn’t Richard Wolff ever talk about this or yourself ? This is a highly abhorrent system. There’s no community to fall back on. Not to mention it encourages very toxic people like narcissists and sociopaths to show their true colors with no shame. Which makes any hope of community, family, extended family absolutely impossible..

Ukraine is no different from standard colonial exploitation. You have to admit that because: 1. Ukraine broke away from Russia along with several other "colonies" long ago settled by Russia. That Russia influenced or even governed these other states does not make that less settler colonialism. Remember this was the Russian EMPIRE! Then it was The USSR. But it still was Russian settler colinialism just like the white Europeans colonialized the native populations of this country. Settler colonialism is wrong even when the people speak Russian after long Russian rule. 2. Ukraine recently had it's own government as a breakaway state. But Russia had a puppet in power there. The Country got rid of him and he fled for safety to Russia. Ukraine had an election and installed a new government. Ukraine was not interested in being a settler colony of Russia anymore. The new government did not follow Russian policy and was looking toward Europe which displeases Putin. Tough Nuggies! They are independent now and can decide to be whatever they want to be eithin their oen borders. even a tool of NATO. I understand Putin's distress but life is hard sometimes. Now, if you believe in the people deciding their own fate you have to honor the will of Ukraine to be free within their borders. If you believe, for instance, in the Palestinian's desire to have their own nation and their own autonomy you must extend that same logic to Ukraine. They want their own government and independence. Putin would have been happy to leave Ukraine alone as long as he could control the future, economics and politics of Ukraine. That did not happen so Putin UNILATERALLY TOOK CRIMEA. He invaded. He militarily usurped the land and government of Crimea. Nobody did much about that so Putin took Luhansk and Donetsk in a second bite of the apple. Russia really wanted all of Ukraine but the people fought Putin to a standstill. The colonists resisted. Sound familiar? 3. The United States absolutely financed most of the Ukranian effort for independence from Russia, but Europe also helped. For five minutes the world, everywhere condemned Putin. He UNILATERALLY INVADED A NEIGHBORING COUNTRY. His reason? There were Nazis in Ukraine. Really? Well I suppose so and I condemn that but they were not bothering Russia. In fact, there is a fascist faction in Russiam that Putin did not immediately round up and imprison. Instead he looked toward independent Ukraine. Putin is famous for imprisoning people who do not bend to his dictates. Don't deny it. Most of those he poisons or imprisons were objectors but not necessarily Nazis or fascists. They simply were bothering Putin's absolute authority. Being an authoritarian leader Putin can label anyone anything. Who will argue with his absolute authority except the accused? And still there were a whole lot of people who attended Navalny's funeral. It doesn't matter if you love or hate Navalny. A bunch of folks got arrested just for attending. That's so undemocratic! That's so Russian. That's so Putinesque! When I hear the current American left line that Russia is blameless and picked upon all I can do is to laugh. It concurrs with the MAGA right! Putin is smart, wiley and ruthless. I'm not buying your pro Russian propaganda. Putin's elections are uncontested because anyone who seriously does not support him and is an effective leader opposing him is labled a traitor or something else and gets poisoned and/or imprisoned. This authoritarian leader tried to influence our last Presidential Election. He's been pretty successful in turning the Republican Party into a tool of his regime. I wasn't happy with the old style Republican policies but I'm horrified by the new subservience of Trump and his MAGA maniacs to Putin. These new Republicans don't think Democracy is a good idea. I cannot forgive Putin for his interference and he may well do it again. Beware! Frankly, I want to be a Professor Wolff and Dr Fraud accolyte. I like socialism. But I like any kind of system tempered with democracy. When my propaganda meter starts to go off I have to wonder why this sudden barrage of Pro Russian and Pro Chinese propaganda is coming from avowed Marxists ? I think there is much to learn from Marx and certainly Capitalism is a losing plan for working people. But both Russia and China are now mostly capitalist countries. So, it's nolonger a contest between socialism and capitalism that motivates this slanted discussion about Ukraine which has a history of being a settled colony that broke away from its imperialist ruler. What's behind this odd alliance of the left and the most extreme right in regard to Russia?

A conquest/expansion can always help the slumping morale of a country's own oppressed/depressed population. Yes? 😀. And stave off societal breakdown? All the excitement of new territory/ riches/plans etc...... And if at home you have massive debt and can no longer afford traveling half way around the world to "manage and defend" your new turf...... Is it SOON that "they" look to the North?? (Why is this not discussed?? Or it just a given....??). 👃✌️🇨🇦

We can interpret history and recent events in various ways, but let me just ask, what did Ukrainian people did wrong, that they deserve ongoing war crimes committed by Russia? Doesn't it matter what people actually want? They wanted independence, but Russia doesn't care and they invaded them anyway. Independence for me means that people decide, so if some candidate wins in fair elections, then it's fine by me. In case that you imply that USA influenced results of elections or that elections were unfair, provide some solid evidence, because for me it currently sounds just like conspiracy theory similar to those created by far-right. Russia is not weak country, but this channel tries to show West as inept set of countries that can't tie their own shoes. Initially no one believed that Ukraine will hold, but here we are, listening to Macron talking about NATO military intervention in Ukraine. I support Ukraine and we should make sure that Russia loses this war and gains nothing. They already lost a lot, they may be able to keep that war going on for few more years, but they won't win it. Russians are bad guys in this conflict and we should consider what is the best choice for everyone. I don't buy naive propaganda about Russia "just defending itself", because you have to not know history to actually believe it.

You are missing the point. As long as they are not America, they are the good guys - or at least not bad enough to be called “colonizers”. America is the Marxists’ Great Satan, so as long as you don’t side with America you can get away with anything that Marxists criticize America for. You don’t have to be accurate or consistent to be a Marxist.
