4 year old video but still helps us. I just purchased this (Costco) and love it. The retention was surprising. Biggest issue I have it the grinds somehow make their way outside of the catch bin and must be swept up each time. No a lot; just enough to be annoying.
@thepiecesfit50496 жыл бұрын
For the same money Baratza sells refurbished Encores. You can purchase the M2 Burr for $35 and essentially end up with a Virtuoso. Because you can buy parts and repair the grinder it's a much better investment.

@ChristopherLopezDrums6 жыл бұрын
Great grinder. I use it every day for my pourovers, french press and auto drip. To solve the retention issue, when it finishes grinding, I violently shake it and that is enough to get all those grounds out of there!

I beat the crap out of mine! No problems. 2 years going strong. Not bad for pourover, which is my only method. When it dies, I'll get a Baratza.....

A few quick slaps and the chute is clear. Been doing this multiple times a day for almost 10 years and the grinder is still kicking.
@johngiatropoulos38484 жыл бұрын
Eric Kinzel I do the same thing and wondered if it was maybe misaligning the bur grinders so glad to hear you guys haven’t experienced any problems. If I’m not in a hurry I’ll take it apart and brush the retained coffee into the hopper I do rely on a scale so this retention problem sort of bothers me but I understand the solution is a high end grinder costing much more than this one.
@michaeljjensen6 жыл бұрын
We started with this grinder and it was a way better purchase compared to a $40-50 blade grinder etc. We still use it for oily dark beans that we don't want going through our drip machine's grinder since they tend to clump together instead of feeding down, or for when we do french press.
@richard-87106 жыл бұрын
I'm a bit of a renigade. I use my Kitchen aid grain grinder and got rid of my burr grinder. I feel like I get good control over the grind. I would love to see a comparison and your opinion. The pro is being a multi tasker, making oat, rice, or any other grain flower I want. A big batch of fresh ground black pepper is nice too lol. The only drawback is having to clean it well whin changing the subject.

I've been using these since around 2014-2015. Be careful with the tabs when you take the hopper off when cleaning. Also, the only real complaint I have is that it builds up a static charge and the grinds stick to the discharge bin. I mostly do pour over now, but was doing espresso before my machine got damaged while in storage. It has been great for pour over. Some beans didn't do well on coarser grinds for French press, most were fine, but one bean just didn't make a good cup unless I ground it finer and extracted with pour over. It's really interesting how a different grind and extraction can have such a huge difference in the end result.

Is that amount of retention (you estimated a couple of grams) acceptable or unacceptable? Do the higher end machines retain less coffee?
@derrickcheung984 жыл бұрын
I just bought this grinder as an entry level one. I think that the amount of retention is acceptable for the price of this grinder. Unless you're changing your grind setting every time you grind, or dosing exactly every time, there probably shouldn't be a problem. There are other grinders that I've looked at that specifically counter this problem (niche zero for example) but that will run you over 600$.

I have owned this model for more than three years. It does a good job for my moka pot, drip and French press units, though I now use a hand grinder for the moka pot. I tap the side of the Infinity after it is finished grinding to get the retained grinds. Something else to add, the ground beans are never warm or hot from the grinding process. This is a plus. I could only wish that all of the hopper surfaces could be easily cleaned, particularly under the conical baffle and that it could grind just a bit coarser for some dark roasts when I use the French press. For the money, it is hard to do better.

Baratza 30AP, hands down for espresso Baratza Encore or Virtuoso Other considerations, Breville Doser Pro but Baratza products are well built to last you years with consistent results.

How does this grinder hold up after 1-2 years of maybe 60-70g daily grinding ? I've had a grinder at a similar price point that after this much use(mostly light to medium rarely city+ roast level)and believe me I cleaned it on a regular basis that started to grind slower and more inconsistent. Replaced it with a Baratza Maestro grinder and I'm much happier. I think my next grinder for moka pot up to french press will be a Maestro Virtuoso to get even more consistent grinding. For espresso I will not be satisfied with anything but a stepless grinder because it makes being even with dosing and tamping from day to day and from bean to bean so much easier.
@itsjaayw6 жыл бұрын
I owned this for about 4-5 years before finally upgrading. After about 1-2 years the burr gets pretty worn and you start to see less consistent grinds and the finest setting will not even come close to what is shown in the video. If you do that much grinding in one day, I'd say it'd last you a solid 1.5 years before w anting to upgrade or replace.
@klarinetta6 жыл бұрын
That's what I thought. You are basically better off in the long term to spend a bit more on a Baratza grinder. And you do get what you pay for

Middle to coarsest, but there's never a sure answer depending on bean, brew method and personal taste. Experiment with settings between those and see what you like!
