The Rockville Brass Band performed Capriccio, October 15, 2023. Rodney Newton's composition lives up to the definition of a capriccio: "A lively piece of music, typically short and free in form." Jan Duga, tuba soloist, makes the work sing.
Ms. Duga is a freelance tubist and educator in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area. She was the first female tubist to win a position with any DC-based, premier military band. Ms. Duga served with the United States Air Force Band for 30 years. She now plays with several regional bands. Ms. Duga is on the Board of Directors of the International Women’s Brass Conference (IWBC) and was honored with its first Lifetime Service Award in 2012.
