Amen to skip all polyester or plastic items!!👏👏 I have always, for my entire life avoided polyester and made a deal early on in life, that no matter how much I like a dress or other clothes, if it's polyester in the fabric-no buy! For one it's not comfy to the skin, secondly the flow and skim will never be the same in a polyester item and lastly, it's totally a waste for our climat. Sadly, I have noticed, that shops like H&M, who used to be a good budget alternative for basics, when needing to cut down, things like sweaters or such, were often made of good sustainable cotton, now have turned into using loads of polyester, so not up to date.

Thanks I agree with all of these points, except one. I hate those boxy, masculine t-shirts that are supposed to be more up to date! Because I have broad shoulders a shirt that just hangs straight down from my shoulders like that makes me look like my upper body has no shape, except that of a refrigerator. I will stick with my boring, outdated t-shirts that show that yes actually my figure is not THAT boring. Also that baggy yellow top and pants set was scary!

Yeah I love the boxy T-Shirt trend, and everyone is wearing them here in my city. But I look very top heavy and masculine if I wear it. My figure is very feminine, curvy and soft, so it suits my natural form to wear soft and flowy T-shirts.

I also don't agree about this one. When I was younger and very slum, they made my arms look like toothpicks. Now they add bulk where I don't want it. I much prefer a more flattering sleeve and show that I have a waistline. Also less bulk if it is chilly and I want to tuck it in. I do agree to avoid very thin material and too tight. I also am not a fan of visible bra straps. I know it is popular, but looks tacky to me. A racer-back is much more comfortable than always having to pull up or adjust a strap. TFS.

I agree with almost everything except this advice about avoiding blazers with rolled-up sleeves. I always wear almost everything with rolled-up sleeves because it creates an illusion of waist and makes outfit and silhouette looking lighter. Usually I just roll it up by myself but sometimes it's comfortable when you don't have to do anything because the sleeves have proper length.

Most of the items you mentioned, especially the first half, I don't buy. Besides looking cheap and using environmentally unfriendly materials, they will tarnish very fast and give you problems when you do laundry.

I felt this, in my core. I more big/tall/not hourglass and I have a hard time NOT looking like someone's grandma on holiday or a big shiny potato sack. There are fewer sustainable/equitable/beautiful clothes out there for larger bodies especially if your style isn't what is currently on trend. I used Daria's suggestions (found on her site) for plus size sustainable brands as a basis for my own research. If you are curious, I would start with her recommendations. If you need any more, I would be happy to offer more help if I can.

I'm avarage height, skinny, but have a very curvy figure (It's not as popular or fun as you'd think though). I need flowy feminine cuts to look like myself and down play my huge boobs that are NOT trendy rn, lemme tell you. But all the sustainable brands make clothes for very flat chested, skinny as a plank, boyish type girls that look good in "the natural" look. Straight lines, simple, beige and simple. I get that it's suits the "natural organic" vibe, but not all of us can dress that way. I wish sustainable brands would diversify their styles, not just for more body types, but also for different styles.

While I agree no synthetics, much of this video is just a personal preference rant. Theres nothing wrong with metals, zip visibility or placements, rolled up sleeves or t-shirt cuts as long as you know you like them and are not just following trends. Please don't fall into the trap of calling someone trashy or judging them badly if their style does not align with your own.

I really love your videos, I was falling for a pair of vinyl shoes but I'll stay away now! Can you perhaps make a video about the most breathable and office appropriate summer clothes that also don't start to stain and smell super fast when you sweat? It gets very hot and humid where I live (40+ degree celsius/104+ fahrenheit) and there's barely any aircon in public places here. I wear a lot of black and white linen because I visibly sweat through most colorful clothes in less than an hour when I go outside, but it limits my fashion freedom and black isn't really that flattering on my skintone. I would love some color in my life in summer. :(

Such good examples! The satin trench coats are really annoying because they have no share or structure. I’d add to the list the low rise jeans/pants, also a 90’s reminiscent that only looks okish if you are a inverted triangle.

That is why thrifting is so great. You can find great expensive garments at a very reasonable price. I like embellishments myself and since there have been these type of finishing treatments since black and white movies, I feel lucky if I find a piece in good condition with a little extra touch at the thrift store. Yeah those plastic shoe material is going to make the feet sweat. They were in when I was a teenager (58 year old now) but I would sport a pair now in a flat open toe version. I already have some that I bought several years ago. I would not buy plastic in a high heel because as you mention there no give and I would not do that to my feet. Interesting points made her. Things to avoid: viscose summer skirts with polyester lining. The irony of it! The second: too many patterns. I have to be extra careful with them, despite my love of patterns. I never know how to match them. Example: pretty but very challenging, eye-hitting skirts by Marie Zelie. :/

I just looove cotton or silk satin. I make the pieces myself so they are well confectioned. So, despite the fabric could be a mess in most commercial pieces, i still use these fabric options with much better finish and behave than the poliester thin cheap version. Thank you for the video, it was very interesting. Maybe you could do one on cardigan, jumpers and other kniting pieces.

A lot of the information in this video was very helpful, giving higher quality, more environmentally friendly alternatives to fast fashion materials/items to get the same desired look. But a few of the things you listed to avoid, your only explanation was you thought they didn't look good, and your explanations for why weren't very good. Like, what if someone likes big, shiny metal hardware on their clothes? What would you suggest to them as an alternative to the fast fashion stuff? Talking about the winter coats made of wool: I have respiratory allergies to many things, including wool. So in winter, I use a lot of wool-imitating polyester. Do you have any suggestion for better materials?

True, you could try something else like alpaca or cashmere (expensive, I know). You could also try a thick cotton/flannel type of material, or for more casual wear, a puffer coat (there are some made of recycled materials). I think though that this situation is one where bending the "rules" is warranted. If your allergies mean that you can only wear synthetic, then just buy good-quality synthetic and pledge to take care of it.

Hi Daria, I’m looking for a classic flowy white shirt. I tried cotton but it felt stiff and casual. Viscose also felt too casual. I bought one in polyester and the way it flows and looks is perfect. Is there another material that would give me the same effect I’m looking for? Not silk though, it’s too expensive and troublesome to launder

Very insightful video. :) I wanted leather jacket so much for this season and bought vintage biker jacket online but simply cannot wear it because of horrible "second hand chemicals" smell. I used leather polish, I tried apple cider vinegar, I took it to seamstress to replace the lining. Nothing helped and I am so sad that I cannot wear it. Maybe somebody will have some suggestions? :(

Bought a second hand leather jacket, too. I took it to dry cleaning, it came back clean but with that distinctive chemical smell. I bought a leather conditioner, a lotion that you rub your leather articles with, and has a pleasant perfume. Now the jacket smells great. You could look for that..

Try putting it in a box with plain charcoal for a while. You can rotate the charcoal to place some in sunlight to get rid of smells. Don't use the stuff you don't need lighter fluid for, just plain charcoal. Works well for getting rid of smells in rooms too. Place in several lunch bags around the room, or closet.

There's Bio Viscose that's not harmful, from the same company that makes Tencel 🌿👌. Armedangels has a lot of it, you can check. Besides, people can buy preloved items from Viscose and that doesn't harm anyone. There are always options 😉
