But these nobodies can tear it off. Also, the fact they thought they could sell it for lots of money? It would be like trying to sell the Mona Lisa painted on a nuclear bomb. Not something the average punk is going to be able to move. Not to mention in this world, they're way more likely to be killed by Dr. Doom or the Punisher coming after the shield than get a single dollar for it.

Peter clearly is holding back because of how much he admires Cap, but it's not like Cap is bloodlusted either and its crazy that he just tags Spidey in his Iron Spider suit three times, numbs him with a hit, outsmarts him, and only gets hit because he didn't know about the tentacles in the suit. Count that in with the time he stunned Spidey with a punch and when he reacted faster than him while groggy and you see how crazy good Steve is

Spider man has the proportionate speed and strenght of a spider which makes him about 10 x stronger than cap and 2-3 times faster. give Cap the edge in hand to hand,sure.... but if this is written properly spidey takes cap out with 1 punch!!

This reminds me of what a friend said "Whoever wins is who the writers want to win" In this story, I think Spidey is hesitant to fight Cap, and I think he is faster, stronger, and more skilled than he thought. Spidey isn't invulnerable, but he is resistant to injury, enough that he shouldn't be hurt by a non-superpowered punches. I've seen Spidey fight and through reflexes and spidey-sense, not get a hand laid on him. Still its a good story about how Cap surprises his opponents and the respect peter has for Cap

Yeah, Spidey isn't going all out, Cap is. Cap is super-powered, though. Also, Spidey is pretty conflicted here. I think this is great writing, though. Quick 1v1 and then one person just gets away, very realistic even though it's probably not what the fans want to see.

For those interested: Cap went through a period where he was stripped of the serum and forced to be a hero without ANY powers, and was actually happy about it. It was right after he'd forced a subordinate to go into rehab because "heroes don't use drugs," and the subordinate pointed out, "your powers LITERALLY came from drugs." Then Cap got exposed to a new narcotic that bonded to the serum in his blood, turning him into a crazed superpowered junkie. The only way to cure him was to filter out all his blood and strip out the serum. After which Cap made a point of taking on some of his worst enemies, just so he could prove to himself that he could be Captain America even without the serum. The same Bronze Age story arc that gave us this "drugs are bad, m'kay" story arc also affirmed that one of the serum's gifts is superhuman reflexes. So Cap may not be as strong as Spidey (or the Hulk, or any of the other metahumans he's fought), but he's at least as fast. Add in the combination of "mastery of almost every fighting style" and "spent half a decade honing his skills in World War 2," and you've got what amounts to a cross between Audie Murphy and Bruce Lee on super steroids. With a shield that can just say "nope!" to pretty much anything that tries to hurt him.

@@vicshephard9231 That's Spidey has a longer time span in which to dodge. The spider-sense lets him sense danger coming before it actually comes at him. Spider-Man's spider sense is every bit as useful to him as his physical strength, if not more so.

Lmao just because he has enhanced reflexes doesn’t mean he’s anywhere near as fast as spidey, cap can’t dodge bullets like they’re in slow mo, and even if he could, reflex speed is not the same as movement speed, which spidey has way more of. It's only ever been damaged in very rare and unique circumstances. Usually requiring alot of contrived plot devices. To my knowledge only Thanos ever broke it outright and he had the ultimate plot device at the time: The Infinity Gauntlet.

It has survived a full hit from Thor using Mjolnir, punches from the Hulk and Juggernaut. All 3 are stronger than Spidey and Cap combined. The only way to damage it is on the molecular level.

Lol, you do know Spidermans biggest problem is that he holds back on weaker opponents. Thats why Daredevil, Punisher and Cap all have wins against him. Wolverine, on the otherhand, has never beaten Spiderman because Spiderman know he can handle his strength and speed.

@@mongooseunleashed Yeah though honestly even that always struck me as odd. Spidey has LONG had a recurring feat of Knocking out weaker human-level foes with Finger flicks. Literal flicks of a single finger. That's how strong his baseline is. The most famous villain I know of that he beat with a finger flick was Shreik. Carnage's old girlfriend. Granted, physically she's fairly weak and a girl but still...even his mildest punches should completely level people like Captain America, Doctor Octopus, etc. In Doc's case, I assume some side effect of the Arms grafting to his spine did something to his nerves that blunts the pain of those light punches enough for him to take a couple. But that's jsut my own head canon explanation

The best part about this scene is how it highlights the characters behavior so well; this is exactly how they’d act. Cap understands and respects Peter, and offers a helping hand, even if he knows Peter won’t accept the offer. Peter respects cap so much he guards his shield from the alley thugs, that’s like protecting your enemies gun from people so he can get it back. It’s realistic to their skill, behavior, everything. Definitely one of my favorite fights

I still remember when Spiderman gave the Hulk his best, but realistically a super-soldier would lose to a web-slinging superhuman who can detect things and react faster than Cap's brain can process. Even if he holds back, if Spiderman was written correctly he'd dodge every punch Cap would throw, and would use his webs to restrict his movement and tie him up, they are 2X stronger than steel.

I found a website for reading comics online and took the opportunity a week or so ago to read up on some classic Captain America comics from the Bronze Age. Turns out that one of the abilities Cap's super soldier serum gave him was radically boosted reflexes. Literally, Cap's reflexes are possibly superior to Spidey's (except for the spider-sense. Spidey has the advantage there because his spider-sense warns him so he actually has a longer time period in which to react). Interestingly enough, Cap ALSO went through a period where he was stripped of the serum, and was actually happy about it. This is the problem with plot armor. Here we have a guy who can lift upwards of 10 tons and a guy who can lift maybe half a ton. Also a guy who can quite literally move faster than you can think and a guy who yes is quicker than a normal human but is still limited by normal human ability. @@AbominationalFailure I don't disagree with you on Spidey being stronger. But this isn't really plot armor. Again, you're underestimating Cap and should look at his feats. His physical traits are at a place where he can keep up with Spidey and has done so more than once. His SKILL is what makes able to embarrass Spidey like this. Kinda like Batman being able to keep up with Deathstroke despite such big gaps in their physical traits but Batman always still needs to outsmart him or use his technology to get the upper hand to win. Sure in a long drawn out battle Spidey can win most likely but you can't think Cap gets beat so easily by Spiderman or anyone at that strength level. Cap has some really incredible feats. I know we like to think he's just stronger than a normal human but that's an understatement. And Spiderman is a scientific genius. Cap is still one of the best strategists in marvel. So it's not as simple as Spidey is smarter than Cap. Cap has still been able to outsmart some "Geniuses" in marvel using his higher level smarts in battle strategy.

Exactly. Peter noting "it has perfect geometry. So I know where it's going" is Peter being smart and quick. He can lock up that shield. But Cap knows Peter is smart, and quick...and would want to lock up that shield. And he also knows where the shield is going, because he threw it in order for it to go there. That's the difference, Spiderman has great power...but Cap was already 3 chess moves ahead. Until Peter pulls out an unknown variable, there is nothing Peter can do that Cap hasn't already seen, prepared a counter, and trained to use said counter before.

this is honestly a prime example of Cap's peak plot armor. There is too much of a difference between them in all stats. Spiderman is stronger, faster, smarter, faster reflexes, but on top of that he's more durable and has actual powers. Thats ignoring the fact that spider armor... is actual armor on some level. Spiderman without that should only be mildly jostled at most by a fully serious Cap strike. And spiderman fully serious can punch through his chest

It's been so long ago, I can't recall what year, but I had the book myself, the halcyon days when THOR was treated with the utmost respect as a character and as a god.

Spidey knows he can't really permanently harm Logan, so he can go all out on him and he'll be fine in a little bit. With pretty much everyone else, he needs to hold back or he'll kill them pretty quick. The only ones he could cut loose on are people like Logan, the various Hulks, Ben Grimm, Juggernaut, Thor, Namor, Luke Cage, and Blob.

Spiderman is less skilled of everyone above (plus black tarantula who is op af), but he is less skilled only of them. He has mastered the way of Spider, and he's a little better of iron fist, and it's better of everyone else: Daredevil, Punisher, Deadpool, ff4, x-men without wolvie, avengers without cap and bp.

The Iron Spider is one of the strongest versions of Spider-Man there is he can toss a semi truck, he could punch a hole through Caps chest and wouldn't even need to dodge Caps punches, this fight is absurd.

I don't know the context of this comic, so all I can say is that if this Peter Parker is anything like how he's normally betrayed, he's only struggling physically as it's in his nature to hold back and not decimate his enemies. But if this version of him were not holding back then I admit this wouldn't make very much sense. Unless one would argue he's still holding himself back subconsciously. Now I kind of wish I had more context of this though.

This fight is equivalent to many very experienced fighters going up against Mike Tyson when he was just starting out. Cap is absolutely the more skilled fighter, but Peter is a freight train. If Peter removed his moral compass, cap would be a stain on the wall.

People forget Peter uses his brains in H2H combat most of the time allowing you predict his opponents moves when his reflexes and speed fail for him. Steve is my favorite hero in comics. This fight illustrates a lot of why, but it should be known that the only reason Steve can even make this a contest of any kind is the skill gap. Spiderman is a pretty good counter for Cap. He holds back his strength and speed so much because he's afraid of hurting people, were he to cut loose Steve wouldn't stand a chance. But Peter respects him too much to do something like that. But even with holding back he is really too much for Cap. Spidey's durability allows Steve to land good knockout blows but out of ten against a serious Spiderman I can't give Cap more than 2/10. Also keep in mind that overall intellect isn't as useful in a fistfight. Fast tactical thinking is basically a superpower for Cap so in the intellect arena for a fight Cap is actually smarter than Peter. In overall IQ it's obviously not even close. Favorite moment for these two was in the EMH cartoon when Steven gives him a classic Cap speech and Peter asks if he can be his sidekick.

Cap attacks in such a way that the only way to avoid it is to put yourself in position to be hit by the next one. The main advantage Cap has is his training and skill in hand-to-hand combat, while Spidey is mostly self-taught. Spidey doesn't really have tactics or strategy. Cap attacks like Batman plans. But if Spidey wanted to, he could take the hit and plow right through it. That's the big difference, and the advantage Spidey has that he rarely uses.

So for the Spider Man (2002) movie, when he and Green Goblin were fighting on numerous occasions (aside from the fact that it was live action so the choreography would be different than comics) was it realistic that Goblin names to get some strikes on SM? He has enhanced reflexes, strength, and intelligence, and other perks. Plus he’s a military scientist, so Norman would have at least some basic understanding of military fighting when he made the serum I’m not debating, but asking if technically the movies made Goblin able to touch SM for action at the cost of what SM can really do

There is a very early Avengers comic (#11) where they fight an android duplicate of Spider-Man (made by the Thinker? Not sure about that and it would take a while to find the issue) and when it fights Cap it has a similar experience. It's losing up close and uses webslinging to blind him and fling him away before cap overpowers him. Then the real Spider-Man shows up out of nowhere and beats his android duplicate. Weird story. It also features Thor being outwitted and defeated by the Spider-Man android!

@@fratgurkok3987 The entire damn thing was just too rushed. If you want to have something like this, you need to be laying the bricks for it at least a year out, and better 3-5. When DC did the first Crisis, the good one, they'd had fifty years of building up the multiverse, and even a few years out they were inserting the Monitor into quick cameos. So when they pulled the trigger, it was huge. Marvel on the other hand, tried to do it with a four (instead of 12) issue series, had none of it ready to go, there was no slow boil of things to come to a head or whatnot. It felt rushed, it felt cheap and it felt half assed. Not compared to the stories from both companies today, but back then it was a bit of a dud. It's basically the reverse of how the cinematic universes rolled out. Marvel did theirs with a really tight (at first) plan, with good stories, intriguing cameos, and a build up towards the Avengers film. DC just shit the bed with Batman v Superman being incoherent, ramming in cameos that still have only had half their movies materialize, and then a big dud with JL.

Folks must be new to comics here. Back in the original Secret Wars, Spider Man fought toe to toe with Titania. Her strength level was on par to She Hulk or around a class 70 tons. Anyway, he beat her because he used his strengths, even though she far surpassed his strength. 90% of the comments here are missing the point. Power scaling is literally the world's dumbest version of "my dad can beat your dad." This was during the Civil War arc. Spidey is literally at an emotional low by this stage, with every single one of his rogues gallery coming after his family, and him constantly questioning if he's even doing the right thing (He even asks God to forgive him after this fight.) Not only that, but now he has to throw hands with not just his longtime idol, but the very symbol of the goddamn USA. It really doesn't matter how strong and fast Spidey actually is, he's not leveraging his strengths with that mindset. Not only that, but there's an allegory going on here. The fight starts with Peter acting like Tony would if he were to face Cap. By analyzing Cap's styles and devising a well planned counter. Evidently it fails due to Cap easily readjusting his style to a different one instead. However, the moment Spidey finally fights like he normally would, he rapidly disarms Cap and easily manages to land a blow on the fair captain. It's kind of basically just foreshadowing the route Spidey would eventually take in Civil War (finally listening to his conscience and himself and defecting to Team Cap after seeing Tony's methods clearly won't work for hero society)
