The MCU-performance from Chris Evans moved something in me, and this "propaganda-superhero" from the "arrogant americans" is my favorite hero and an great example. Remember that it was a German scientist, Dr. Erskine, who created the supersoldier serum, and it was he who chose Steve Rogers to be enhanced--not because he was a perfect soldier or patriotic, but because he was a good man. At the moment of his death, Dr. Erskine pointed to Steve's heart to remind him to always be true to himself and his principles--not as a German to an American, but one good man fighting for freedom and justice to another. And Steve has always kept his promise, even when it meant that his own country would consider him a criminal, as it does now. He has always stood for the same things, even if America no longer does.

Truly impressive stuff from all the writers and Chris Evans.

A lot of emotions come with that flag and moreso than any other superhero, Cap lives with the prejudice both for and against it. So many people miss that he was a good man, raised on the hope and belief that we could achieve great things if we band together, cared for one another and lived with the morals and ethics that we were told mattered. He's a man that tries to do good, not just for his nation but for everyone. Like he said, "I don't like bullies, no matter where they're from."
@thecpmr6276 Жыл бұрын
Because truth and love have no gender, color, or age. They come from the heart, the come from the soul. Ironically Cap is still teaching us to not judge a book by it's cover. That even if he's the "perfect man" that many have come to associate with oppression in the states, that he's more than just his skin. He's an American. No, better. He's a human. And we shouldn't judge humans by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.
@danieldickson859110 ай бұрын
Chris Evans chose to deliver Cap's lines with absolute sincerity. He firmly believes in everything he says, no winking or smirking. Chris Reeve did the same thing as Superman. It's important for the character, too. Inspirational speeches have always been Captain America's signature.
@ApexGale9 ай бұрын
Because he represents the ideal America, one free of prejudice and separation. That's why when Fury attempts to "separate" Shield from Hydra Steve shuts it down. He points out Shield is compromised and the whole thing needs to go. There are no half measures that can save a corrupt establishment. He represents moral good, the everyman just trying to live a good life.

On the other hand Sam's speech was like "I'm so great look I don't have super soldier serum, no blonde hair or blue eyes yet I am Captain America"... like he is doing the world a favour by being Captain america? Also yes Sam did ask them to do better even tho he had no solutions to make them do better but Sam did not pick sides, he was in the middle which was nice cuz the flag smashers wanted to recreate a world without borders and provide resources to those in need. There's a line from a comic book with Captain America. It was specificaly "Civil War: The Amazing Spider Man-Issue 537," or something like that. In the comic, Captain America is confronted with Peter asking about how to focus and perservere when the media disagrees with you and hates you. After starting to respond, this line is added at the end, which is just something monumental. "Doesn't matter what the press says. Doesn't matter what the politicians or the mobs say. Doesn't matter if the whole *country* decides that something *wrong* is something *right.* This nation was founded on one principle above all else: the requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole *world* tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole *world-* No, *you* move."

That’s an awesome quote but I feel like it should come with a significant caveat. You should stand up for your morality but there’s some issues where there’s room for disagreement among reasonable people. Unfortunately, that caveat is almost never mentioned and when it is, people don’t take it seriously, thus leading to massive amounts of unnecessary conflict. But to reiterate what you were saying, yes, if you definitely know in your heart that something is right or wrong, fight for it with every fiber of your being and never give up. If the whole world tells you to move, you tell the world “No, YOU move.”

Winter Soldier to me atleast is the closest thing to perfect a comic book movie has ever gotten to. the story is great and well written, action is some of the best in the MCU, Bucky is the only actually scary MCU villain, and I adore the theme they explored of giving up freedom for security. Also you have to admit this is one hell of a inspiring speech.

This movie did the concept of Secret Invasion better than the show. The weight of this speech was just well handled. The discomfort in having to tell the good people in Shield that they'd been taken over by Hydra, that the people standing next to them might be an enemy ready to kill them. Yet he still makes a strong call to stand and do the right thing. The MCU at its best.

It's really amazing to think how much Steve's words rippled through both SHIELD and Hydra at this moment, shaking everything to its very foundation. It was only a few minutes after this speech that an entire war started. Everyone in the Triskelion started a firefight, and all across the globe SHIELD and Hydra agents started killing each other. Agents of SHIELD helps show this quite well. For months on end, right after Steve said this, all of the shit in existence hit the fan.

We need this moral integrity today more than ever. If you find yourself in this position in your life, no matter the scope of it, even if it's just the angel and demon on your shoulders, ask yourself: what do you want to say to yourself tomorrow? Did you sit by and let the demons swarm, or did you stand up and do the right thing? What would Cap do?

“These are the times that try men’s souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of his country; but he that stands by it now deserves the love and thanks of man and woman.” - Thomas Paine (The American Crisis) It took me 8 years of watching this film breaking it down piece by piece to finally realise that Cap is the real "Winter Soldier" that the title refers to. A steady patriot defending his country even against itself and its tyrannical failings.

Good comparison, but the name actually originated in the comics when a Russian nationalist that Steve and Bucky had fought alongside had stated that the US and the Germans and each sides allies would have their weapons, and their powers, and their super soldiers. But Russia would always have its winter. He was one of the individuals who initially captured Bucky and brainwashed him into the WInter Soldier along with the first of the Red Room.

When Cap dies in Avengers 4, I will most likely cry myself to sleep every night for the next year afterwards. I never really cared for Cap a year ago. But after re-watching the films he is in, he has become one of my favourite characters. During Civil War, I was with Team Iron Man, because I love Iron Man and I thought he was right. Now, after re-watching it, I'm conflicted over whether or not I should've gone with Cap or Iron Man. My dad was with Team Cap because he grew up with Captain America. I grew up with the MCU Iron Man.
@alpha2.0165 жыл бұрын
I grew up in the Iron man crowd as well but I always loved Captain America for some reason. I think it’s because of the shield and what he represents.
@kenalier5 жыл бұрын
They both had good reasons for their positions because Tony unchecked created Ultron who tried to destroy all of humankind so he felt he and the team needed to be kept in check and not have too much control....Cap knew that after how HYDRA was so well hidden within SHIELD in Winter Soldier, the government was very flawed and unreliable and if they manipulated the Avengers, they would have to follow the government’s agenda and not necessarily be able to go where they were needed....I think Infinity War proved ultimately that Captain America was right to not trust in the government and the Accords because despite all the MARVEL heroes rising up (Cap included) to help defend the world from its greatest threat because they were its best chance as no army or government had a chance against Thanos and the Black Order, all Ross cared about was saving face and his bruised ego. Instead of focusing on the real problem, he just wanted to arrest the Avengers who refused to cooperate with his agenda. Ross never had the world’s interests at heart but only his own.
