She's a beauty! You had me sold until I saw the running backstays! I raced a couple back in the day when they were popular and swore never to do it again. C&C made great boats and I bet she sails like dream!

Thanks! We are very happy with her.

These are beautiful boats. I sailed as crew on a custom C&C named Marauder (formerly Amazing Grace, Canada's Cup boat) out of the RCYC many years ago. Possibly the best all-around boat I've ever sailed.

Gary, I just met you in the bar tonight at ColYC. Looking through my links, what a coincidence that I have already met you and White River here on KZbin. Looking forward to seeing her on the dock. (And I passed the Captains class tonight too, thanks for the boost of confidence.) See you soon.

Great vedeo. I love to do what your doing. I live in N. East GA. So close to the Atlantic and Carribean. I watch sailing vedeos alot. Im real close to Hartwell lake its has 1000 miles of shore line. I guess I could statt there. Have a great day

Thank you for this. We have just purchased a c&c 38. Very similar. Very hard to get in depth detail and this was a treasure. Cheers.

@@captaindaggett1934 Thank you so much. Since we purchased ours at the very tail end of the season, I've got so many that its not worth listing any specifically :) Most problems I have been able to solve well enough so far. One issue we have with our specific boat is that the hydraulic system is not working. The backstay was replaced with a fixed stay, and there are no running backstays or any way to conveniently adjust the tension when under way. The boomvang doesn't work at all and we had to come up with some creative temporary solutions :) I'm debating trying to wrestle a fix for the system given that the previous owner already tried and gave up, or if I should just get a rigid boomvang and live without backstay adjustment. While we don't plan to race seriously, we just need a good safe family cruising solution, I will say that we purchased this boat specifically instead of some others because we do like the challenge of trimming sails so part of me is hesitant to give up the backstay adjustment.

@@mmocny I rebuilt my hydraulic unit with new seals and gaskets. It actually wasn't too bad once I figured out how to remove it. If you can get the part number off the unit I can likely point you to the right spot to get the kit. Costs about $50. If you are on facebook check out this group. I am on there constantly. facebook.com/groups/341181792745950

Nice to see a video on the C&C 41. Sail a 1985 C&C 41 with a centreboard and aft cabin. Very similar to yours in terms of deck layout. We switched our primary winches (Barient 32 ST) to the aft coaming position; from the literature they always should've been there and it means you can now stand and trim the jib. Ours has been around the block lots (Sail out of Saint John, NB), with two trips to the Caribbean and three trips to Bermuda. They are solidly built boats and a pretty good value in terms of performance and accommodation in a 40 footer.
@captaindaggett19342 жыл бұрын
Agreed on all counts! There are great boats and substantially built with the performance to get you there quickly and safely.

Great boat and video to go along with it! It would be cool if you could make a video of how you trim your backstay. Thanks for taking the time to make this video!

Great idea. I will put that on the list and try and shoot a video on that in the spring or summer.

We loved our 1988 C&C 41 Aft Cabin! Would love to see you post some HD videos of the 41 under sail. Thanks...

We will get some race video up this season for sure as well as some cruising. The aft cabin is a really cool layout!

Watching this again as we wait for sailing season :) A few more questions: You mentioned using a blade staysail for reaching in light wind... Do you mean you use the midstay/baby stay that bends the mast? We have one on our c&c38 but i wasn't sure if the stay should handle a sail. Could you help me understand the role of the travellers in-board of main jib travellers? Is this just an alternate for the genoa when really pointing and trimming flat? Cheers
@captaindaggett1934 Жыл бұрын
We use the Pole lift halyard. The stay sail is on a wire luff so we can attach it to one of the 3 padeyes on the fore deck (I think your 38 has two). The sail is rigged to hoist out a spinnaker bag and has sheets left attached. We use it just like a cutter.

I am thinking of buying one of them and crossing the ocean is it possible to do it solo
@captaindaggett1934 Жыл бұрын
The boat is capable of doing so but may not be my first choice for a solo crossing. That being said I wouldn't have any questions that it could handle it properly outfitted. A bigger factor is the person making the voyage. That is no small feat and requires a significant amount of skill and ability.
