Captain Graham's Retirement Flight:
What a wonderful last flight for both my dad and our family to remember. Everyone came together to make this a great last trip for us.
I want to thank the United Flight Attendants and Pilots for doing everything in their power to make this day very special. From taking pictures and Videos, serving us extra drinks and snacks, and most importantly for making PA announcements that told the stories of how my dad would become an airline pilot. I will forever have great respect for both United Airlines and their employees.
Thanks to the passengers of each flight that cheered to the top of their lungs on those perfect landings. It’s hard not to get super choked up when you hear someone cheering and clapping for your dad. I loved every single minute of it. Also thank you to a couple of passengers that reached out to me so they could further tell my dads story to the rest of the world to hear.
Thank you Chicago O’Hare ATC, you guys are the best!!! I’ve heard my dad say that you have been the best for years. You are the best air traffic controllers in the country.
I also want to thank the Chicago O’Hare Fire Department for putting on a great show for everybody on board. That was so so special.
Talking to my dad last night and throughout the weeks leading up to this day. I kept hearing the same message over and over again. “I love my career.” He didn’t want to step away. He loved flying for United Airlines.
He is truly an inspiration to both me and so many people. Thanks for being such a great person to lookup to.
Date: 09/09/2020
Flight: UA451 DEN to ORD
Aircraft: Boeing 777
No Friends or Family were filming during landing. This was a video taken by a co-pilot.

Thanks for sharing this video. My dad retired a few years ago from Continental/United after 32 years flying. He retired as a 787 Captain out of SFO. I'm truly jealous of this video you have of your father's last flight. I wish I had something similar.

@@wotblake Hi Blake, thank you for your comment. That’s really cool about your dad. They might have flown together... that’s a long career (32 years!!). I’m sure you are very proud of your father and you have some really cool memories like I do of your dad taking you places. I hope he’s enjoying his retirement. I was originally asked to make a slide show of photos from throughout his career... but I thought making an actual video would be way more special.

My warmest congratulations Eric to your Dad Captain Graham! He is a consummate gentleman,dedicated husband and father,and distinguished aviator,and my prayer is that the good Lord bless and continue to protect him in his retirement. My only regret is that in all my years as a passenger,I never had the honor of having him as my captain..wheels up and Godspeed Captain Graham to a most uplifting and fulfilling long life ahead! It's a difficult thing to walk away from, when you have dedicated 40 years of your life doing something you love;. At least it was for me. As I said to those of the younger generation to whom I left the reins to; it was their turn and their capable hands into which I placed the trust to achieve even better things. Well done Captain Graham.

I dreamt of being a pilot from being 3 years old, I was absolutely passionate about it. Began lessons over in Canada and then found out I had health issues which precluded me from working at all. I cry every day, every time I see a contrail every time I see that uniform, my heart breaks all over again. Aviation isn’t just a job it’s a meaning. A love and a passion. Now I’m just waiting to die whilst thinking of all that I’ve missed. Well done Captain Graham! A legendary Aviator. I hope he is well and is adjusting well to life on terrain. I flew for BA for 43 years as a very senior flight attendant.My reward was the airline couldn’t wait to get rid of me as I was viewed as being to expensive,rather than acknowledgement of all the experience I had.All I ever did was adapt to change and turn up for work.Best thing about retirement is a good night’s sleep.Stay safe Captain
@DanSmithBK
@DanSmithBK 3 жыл бұрын
BA used to inspire feelings of class, style and great service, but in the past 20 years it’s become a poor example of how to run an airline. The disrespect shown to staff over that time is staggering. I shall never forgive them for refusing to keep a Concorde flying, and since then I’ll book any other airline when possible, and only fly BA if I have no other option.

This is the second KZbin retirement flight video I watched tonight. Both of them, produced by their sons. One common thread...neither pilot wanted to have the films made, because they did not want to retire. Both men loved what they did so much they wanted to continue. Not many folks I know loved what they did so much they simply wanted to work until they no longer could. FAA policy must be changed I know motor skills can diminish with age, but with regular check ups, pilots should be allow to fly.

Thank you for your nice comment! It was really special to show so many people the behind the scenes and the emotions that are tied to this career. My family and I have been able to travel with him and see it first hand throughout the years. But it’s always great to be able to share with others. I completely agree. The FAA does need to re-evaluate the rules of age. They have changed it once from 60 to 65 before, so he ended being able to fly 5 more years. So many qualified pilots are having to require way to soon. I believe it’s in the works to have the age of mandatory retirement changed. Anyway... thanks again for you comment. I hope you have a great day!!

Super cool. So awesome. I remember a UA captain on his retirement flight on 9/11. He was half way across the pacific SYD•LAX 747. He was on his break and was woken up to be told “Sir all USA air space is closed” His answer “I knew there would be jokes on my last flight But this is good” “No sir, we are serious”

What a fantastic flying career. It brought me to tears, seeing that after 41,5 years he still loved Aviation so much and did not want to stop flying 😫😭

First of all, great video. I love how proud you are of your father because of this accomplishment and it's deserving. I love watching these videos, my dad worked for the same company for 35 years before he passed away I never got to retire so I like to vicariously live through these videos for him. I appreciate it,
