Motor Yacht AWOL is docked in the port of Hvar, we go through our pre departure process in detail before finally casting off and manoeuvring the vessel with extreme caution out of the berth whilst at the same time recovering the starboard anchor. Not only do we have vessels on both sides to consider but also the grounds lines coming out forward of both vessels.
To be in with a chance of winning an all inclusive weeks vacation onboard Motor Yacht AWOL follow the link:

Just recently found your channel and am enjoying it very much. Retired after 35 years as an airline Captain and while I don't know that much about yachts, find you to be both clearly experienced and enjoying what you do, and excellent at sharing your experiences. Look forward to see many more. Cheers!

Sorry, no Keith you are wrong, slow is NOT pro. Observation, or lookout is pro. I can only conclude you are not a pro yachtsman. Keep learning.
@keithmny
@keithmny 3 жыл бұрын
@@robertstancer4469 Slow IS definitely pro, anyone who manoeuvres a vessel approaching a dock at any speed but slow is despite having all the observation provided by their own eyes and other assigned crew a complete and utter numpty. It doesn't matter how much observation is taking place because the faster you go the less time you have to react to unexpected issues that can crop up . I never was a yachtsman only a lowly harbour pilot.

@@keithmny This is the type of boating cliche that should be avoided. I fact avoid them at all costs. In the the UK we call what Mr Keithmany posts above as 'stating the bleedin obvious'. Wots wrong with berthing 'stern to' at 15knots heh! Keith baby?, perleese. As a rear admiral, (so i out rank you), it does not matter how slow you are going, if you don't see it, you'll hit it. For an example see Cpt Tristans video berthing a Porto Rodondo, Sardinia and his groundline incident.....all done at VERY LOW speed AND he says he had lookouts posted. If you are going to give out advice Mr Keithmany please make it of value. The 'pros' i know just laugh at this type of nautical nonsense. Hey, he's some you might like; Breast is best! Or, Hair of the Dog!........

Man, what an incredible video. 1st off. Awesome camera placements and editing. 2nd. That is a scary job coming away from the cats on port and starboard side. 3rd. The amount of engineering & electrical engineering involved in these ships is CRAZY. I can't even imagine what the blue prints look like when it's being built. The electrical engineering is like freakn NASA. I mean, a sensor on every single window that shows open/closed position? The amount of skill it must take to plan out and run the wiring on these yatchs is unreal. I could watch videos like this all day. 1st time I've ever watched one. Thank you for showing what it takes to move a yatch successfully. I'm hooked now.
